I commented that the release of the figures would be on December 25 as happened with the pachyrhinosaurus. This is unfortunately for long.

Papo is definitely "awesomebro", but that's not a terrible thing. I don't mind "awesomebro" designs myself as they do look cool. That Polacanthus does look desirable though. I'd love to see their take on an Acrocanthosaurus or even Megalosaurus though. I desperately need Megalosaurus replicas!

I too would like to suggest that a Megalosaurus would be excellent.

They evidently aren't basing all their choices on TV shows, see: last years figures.

Agreed. And I doubt they made a Polacanthus because of it's appearance in an 18 year old TV series.

Yes but that design has more in common with a bull than with the Papo let alone a real Kaprosuchus.

CityRaptor

Exactly:

Baryonyx however was not in Primeval. Same for the feathered Velociraptor. Now, the Green Raptor is inspired by JW, same for making the Mini Allosaurus an albino.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

There are not a lot of popular dinosaur genera that HAVEN'T had some sort of media representation. That's why they're popular. I don't think Papo is using movies and television as primary inspiration anymore and most of their recent releases reflect that.

The lack of logic in your reasoning is self evident. You might as well say that CollectA and PNSO based their Basilosaurus on Walking with Beasts, or that the Papo Baryonyx from last year was based on Ice Age 3. I suppose this year's Safari Giganotosaurus was based on Dinotopia: The World Beneath?

Papo has always used some sort of inspiration for there models qnd its not just movies and tv shows.

They clearly took inspiration from   sideshow collectibles and some paintings.   Many people say that there pacyrhinosaurus was an original model but nope  it was based off of the one featured in Disney's Dinosaur. Evean there tylosaurus is not an original concept. It was ripped straight from a painting just like the allosaurus.  The plesiosaurus may have been made to be a cross between the cryptoclidus in wwd and the Loch Ness Monster.       Apatosaurus is clearly inspired by sideshow as are there Carnotaurus. Tupaxura, Styracosaurus and to a lessor extant, the dilophosaurus.      It is my assumption that because they make there models inspired by other works of art, they are looking to tv shows now.   Im not saying PNSO, CollectA or Safari do the same because they actully do more reserch into new dinosaurs no matter if it appears in a piece of media or not.

To be fair, the Featherd raptor and Uvogel are unique.     And seeing how everything else they did was inspired by some preexisting art form. I figured its safe to assume that they are looking at tv shows now for new ideas.

Im sorry if i came off as rude the first time. I hope this clears up my reasoning as i did not have time to write it until now

This is somewhat unlikely, but I'd totally be down for some Dinotopia-inspired figures!

Agreed, totally.  There was some company once that made human farmers with dinosaurs they could ride very close to dinotopia like.  i saw the pics around 2002/2003 haven't seen them since though.  Seemed like maybe Bullyland ?

From the photos of it, it looks like the Papo Polacanthus has a single row of spike osteoderms along the midline of its tail.  In a comment on this DTB review, Victoria (who's a palaeontologist that specialises in ankylosaurs) mentioned ankylosaur osteoderms are always paired: http://dinotoyblog.com/2015/05/11/ankylosaurus-jurassic-world-by-hasbro/
When an ankylosaur is given a single row of midline osteoderms, I find it makes it look like a dragon.

Apatosaurus is clearly inspired by sideshow as are there Carnotaurus. Tupaxura, Styracosaurus and to a lessor extant, the dilophosaurus.

I think the Dilophosaurus is definitely one of the Papo figures most inspired by a Sideshow figure.  The pointed scales on the neck and back, the stripes over the leg, and the pattern on the tail are very similar in the Papo and Sideshow Dilophosaurus.

And while we're at it, I was browsing through other users collections yesterday and found this http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=152.0 ... it reminded me immediately of the Papo Velociraptor, the head is pretty similar, notice the ridges up before the eyes, and also the thin feathering over the body and the plumage on the wings feels reminiscent. Didn't know this Sideshow piece, but knowing Papo has been inspired by them for Carnotaurus, Tupuxaura and Apatosaurus, I think it's pretty fair to say it's the same with the raptor.
I hadn't noticed the Papo feathered Velociraptor's resemblance to that Sideshow Velociraptor until I read this.  I can see all the similarities between the two Verahin mentioned, and now I do think that Papo Velociraptor is based on Sideshow's.  As for the Papo Archaeopteryx, I think it's based on John Sibbick's Archaeopteryx:

I would LOVE a Torvosaurus figure with the Dinosaur Revolution coloration, that would be awesome!
I am the Dinosaur King!

Sometimes I really hate papo  :'(

Killekor

The unic positive things of this years are:

1) they have tried to do a feathered Raptor, so, probably in this years they Will try a Feathered T-Rex, or an Updated Spinosaurus.

2)same thing as the point One (Sorry, the Baryonyx appers in Jp or in WWD? I don't Remember this)

Thanks

Killekor
Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Paleoart has taken inspiration from other sources since the days of Charles Knight. It's nothing new. Papo is not unique in this and while I will agree that Papo uses other paleoart and pop culture as references I certainly wouldn't go so far as to assume that they're making a Polacanthus because of WWD or will make a Torvosaurus because of Dinosaur Revolution. That's a stretch. They also seem to be diversifying more with their choices and designs, relying less on popular media depictions.
