So why the heck is the paint deco on the Jeep incomplete now?? They showed us a correct prototype, and now the production version is inexplicably inaccurate to Nedry's Jeep.

That was one of the few brand new items I was looking forward to, but now I am not interested until I know whether that boxed shot showing the Jeep is just a production error or something. Why would you do that Mattel?

I know, I'm not even commenting on a dinosaur figure here, but come on, it's part of the Legacy line and people know how that Jeep should look, especially since Mattel already showed us how it should look!

Faelrin

Yeah its frustrating. At least people are taking notice and calling them out on it. Even if this is a bad sample. Granted the Dilophosaurus on the other hand is deliberately inaccurate and I don't get why. Why not just repack the one from the Legacy bundle released in 2018 that was only available here as far as I'm aware?

Granted the video is up on Target but I doubt it will get me any answers on these. I guess its also available to pre-order now.

Pachyrhinosaurus

The Jeep reminds me of when Hasbro painted Blue with black stripes instead of blue ones.

A bit different though, since Mattel already showed us they were prepared to release the Jeep with accurate paint.

More like if they had released a version of Blue without any stripes, after showing a prototype that did have stripes!

Faelrin

avatar_Pachyrhinosaurus @Pachyrhinosaurus There was concept art of Blue (assuming it was intended to Blue at the time) with black stripes that is strikingly similar to the toys released by Hasbro. I'll try to dig it up. I know Jurassic Outpost shared it years ago though.

In fact many of the raptors had different designs on merch (such as the fruit snacks packaging) then what was in the final film as well, which also resembled the toys. The only one to stay somewhat consistent was Charlie probably. It's probably a similar situation with our dear friend the Sinoceratops that is really a Pachyrhinosaurus released in 2018, if not the BaBR Allosaurus as well. There's only so much time to make toys especially when the designs haven't settled yet, so I'm a bit more forgiving on that front (not so the poor quality control and screw holes on the other hand).

On the contrary I think this may have been a case of trying to fit everything in under the budget of $29.99 though I don't know how much impact cutting that stripe paint app from the Jeep has made. Granted I would have gladly paid more for more accuracy anyways. Unless this is just a bad sample oddly.

Hoping the lack of red stripe is an error, but I dont think it is. :(

It is definitely frustrating, but if you want to get Nedry, this is your only option.

But like c´mon. Could they just save cost on any other part? Remove the stick or something...for example.

Ah yes, the tiger raptor is looking great, it will be a good replacement for the legacy collection that didnt even had stripes :(

Ironic that a random repaint does the job better than the supposed official version.

Here's the pics for folks that didn't or don't want to check the links I posted earlier.

Lastly there have been spottings of a new tag for the new Spinosaurus over at Best Buy (in the US so far) of all places. Sorry that I forgot to mention this tidbit sooner. I actually had the fun of spotting this the other day at my closest one while there to check out their gaming laptops. Certainly worth mentioning that as well so folks should keep an eye out. I imagine it should be here by April. Honestly most of this new stuff is slated for April, which was the same month that everything released back in 2018. Perhaps things are still street dated to that despite Dominion being delayed until next year?

Flaffy

The Dilophosaurus in the Nedry Jeep set is disappointing. I find it funny how after so long, the only screen accurate Dilophosaurus Mattel ever gave us was the one in the 2018 Legacy 5-pack.

Such a shame they decided to cancel the JP water spitting version, and replaced it with kindergarten crayon deco.

From Collect Jurassic, Masiakasaurus. Weird how they chose to exclude it's most defining trait: the downturned lower jaw with curved teeth. You'd think that of all franchises, JP/W would be the one to emphasise creature characteristics.

Faelrin

Our first look at the Fierce Force Masiakasaurus (avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy beat me to it so I'll remove the image here):

Fierce Force Velociraptor:

Snap Squad Attitudes:

The Masiakasaurus is a bit disappointing for me in how they executed the head sculpt. Kind of generic looking to me. I'm okay with the color, but I feel like it could use some belly paint or something to spruce it up a little. At least this means the others listed on that one site will probably have images up soon I imagine, such as the Chialingosaurus, and Ouranosaurus, or so I hope.

The new raptor sculpt is interesting, but definitely an easy pass for me.

I do like these new Snap Squads, especially the new chilled out Stegosaurus.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I swear I thought the Masiakasaurus was a young Indorapto.  I'm guessing at that size the teeth are just hard to produce and get something vaguely accurate looking. It also depends on the sculptor as well.

The raptor..yeah pass.

The snap squads are cool, I do like the Stego and Dimorphodon..a couple of those like the Raptor I'm not sure what "attitude" that is..kinda looks constipated.. lol

long as my heart's beatin' in my chest
this old dawg ain't about to forget :')

Carnoking

I like the raptor color scheme, and it looks like a new action gimmick? But yeah, too many raptors at this point for me to care.
Not a fan of the Masiakasaurus. Nothing about it says Masiakasaurus to me, it looks more like another generic hybrid. Also, way too monotone for my taste.
Don't think we needed snap squads with different emotions, and the paint jobs on them do very little for me. That being said, I like the stego since we haven't gotten one of those just yet, and his half lidded stare puts me in mind of Spike!

MLMjp

At least they made a new mold (partially) for that raptor. Since it has the crests I guess I could get it to repaint it into the JP3 female so I dont have just another jumping raptor, but I dont think its worth it just for that.

That Masiakasaurus is officially the worst looking Mattel figure to date. The head reminds me of those weird cheap chinasaurs you see sometimes online or those "JP figures wanna be" toys that give their dinos a monstruous appereance.

It makes the Herrersaurus head look pretty, it makes the Proceratosaurus look life-like, and it makes the Irritator look like it has the best teeth of the whole Las Cinco Muertes archipelago.

Kotori_Sonoda

The Masiakasaurus had such a bizarre head, I'm dissapointed it wasn't replicated in the figure.

However I actually like those snap squads. The expressions are funny!

why are snap squads

Umm, because they are harmless fun?

Seriously, they don't tend to hang around on the pegs for too long from my experience. These new snappers are an interesting take, I like the two Dimorphodon in particular. Colors on the Baryonyx are cool but I'm hoping to find the Grim version. I probably will pick out a couple figures from this set as well to clip to random things...

Smilodon P.

Well, as the figure of the Masiakasaurus matches with one of the silhouettes of the new releases image, we can already have an idea of which one represents the Moros Intrepidus.

All that remains is to confirm three figures: the apparent abelisauridae, the small ceratopsian (baby trike?) and the large carnivore (perhaps, an
Acrocanthosaurus to pair with  the sauropelta). Or, have these also been revealed?

PrimevalRaptor

That Masiakasaurus really looks like some Indoraptor prototype with that head, do gotta say the articulation looks fun though

terrorchicken

cute new snap squads but I still cant find a carnotaurus for a good price. I don't want to pay double the price on eBay/Amazon. So far I only have T-Rex.

I did luck out with the Imaginext baby in egg packaging figures and found the triceratops and mosasaurus at CVS of all places.

Removing a Dinosaur's defining characteristics to make them into a more generic monster is this franchise's favorite pastime.
