It's perfect. I'm not one to reserve yet to be released dinosaurs, especially those that are so far out, but I'm claiming this for review.

Eocarcharia

Ooh, very nice. Kinda looks like a Pacific Rim kaiju with that bright blue mouth. Curious to see how the BotM version compares to this one.

Quote from: Creative Beast StudioMany have been asking about it and today we have our first look at the new sculpt for the 1/18th scale Deinonychus antirrhopus for upcoming Cyberzoic Kickstarter! This figure, post-funding, will also have a Beasts of the Mesozoic version later on. Fantastic sculpt work here by Ross Persichetti.

I can't believe we're really getting this guy and Utahraptor in the same campaign (along with many of my other favorite dinosaurs). Definitely nice to see another paleo accurate one on the market, after Safari's beautiful figure.

Edit: And considering the level of articulation the tiny 1/18 Velociraptor has, I expect this to be similar, if not slightly more. It's great we'll finally have a Velociraptor, Deinonychus, and Utahraptor in scale with each other, among others.

The Deinonychus looks SO good!  I'm so happy to see it!  I wonder if later on a 1:18 Adasaurus will share parts with this Deinonychus, since the two species are the same size?  I think Stenonychosaurus, Zanabazar and Tianyuraptor could also share parts with Deinonychus, I wonder if we'll see any of them get included too?  I don't know enough about oviraptorosaurs to know if any could share parts with any of the 1:18 dromaeosaurids.

Faelrin

avatar_Sim @Sim A proper sized Adasaurus, based on this Deinonychus would be ideal. Would love if both colorations (the original, and the recent repaint) would get that treatment. It would be great to have alongside the Tarbosaurus, and if he ever does them, Deinocheirus, and Therizinosaurus as well, if not others from the Nemegt Formation.

Personally I'm satisfied with Safari's take as I prefer static models. Excited to see the parts-sharing possibilities with this body sculpt though!

Quote from: Creative Beast StudioToday we have a proper look at the 1:18th scale Allosaurus jimmadseni unpainted prototype! This figure will be offered as part of the upcoming Cyberzoic Kickstarter, but will eventually be part of BotM as well. I'm hoping to get this bad boy painted up for Power-Con (Aug. 11-13th). Also shown here is the color design for this version.

Sculpting by Jake Baardse, articulation and prints by Raul Ramos, and molds and casting by Jeremy Monz.

David also confirms in the comments that jimmadseni is the Tech Clan Allosaurus, and fragilis will be with the Fire Clan.

Dusty Wren

When David says "will be offered as part of the upcoming Cyberzoic Kickstarter, but will eventually be part of BotM as well," does that mean that the only figures offered in the Kickstarter will be the versions with armor? If you want figures without armor, will you have to wait until they're available on Creative Beast's website?
Check out my customs thread!

Faelrin

avatar_Dusty Wren @Dusty Wren I think he's mentioned in the past that the figures and armor will be offered separately, but we will need to wait and see for how the kickstarter actually goes. I think he's well aware of folks wanting the dinosaurs and not the armor too (possibly even vice versa, since some of the armors are intended to be like little transformers). That said he does listen to feedback and can also change the kickstarter up if need be. Like I mean during the ceratopsian campaign he totally changed around the stretch goals based on feedback. It's just a few more months away in any case.

If I correctly recall, he said cyberzoic was one sex, while BotM was another, hence the different color palettes. It's also just a good idea to offer multiple colorways, as several companies do that now, and it helps get more use out of a mold, while providing more options for the collectors.

By the way, here's the current progress for all the species planned so far, with the exception of concept art from other artists (such as like Ceratosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, etc). The only concept art included below are the hand painted color schemes from David Silva, which I think are worth including.

Dinosaurs:
Spoiler
Achillobator (concept art finished; prototype finished; armor prototype finished):

Acrocanthosaurus (digital sculpt teased, wip?):

Allosaurus (concept art finished; digital sculpts finished, including armor, A. jimmadseni printed and cast):

Carnotaurus (concept art finished; digital sculpt finished, printed and cast):

Deinonychus (digital sculpt finished, printed and cast):

Dilophosaurus (concept art finished; prototype finished, digital armor sculpt finished, printed and cast):

Dryptosaurus (digital sculpt finished, printed and cast):

Pachycephalosaurus (digital sculpt teased, wip?):

Stegosaurus (concept art finished; traditional sculpt wip):

Utahraptor (concept art finished; prototype finished; armor prototype finished?):

Mammals:
Spoiler
Andrewsarchus (digital sculpt finished, printed and cast):

Smilodon (concept art wip; digital sculpt finished, printed and cast):

Dragons:
Spoiler
Arctic dragon (Kuraokami; prototype finished):

Lizard dragon (digital sculpt finished; had a test print done as well, but not finalized):

The earlier, original list had revealed:

Spoiler
-Achillobator
-Acrocanthosaurus
-Allosaurus
-Carnotaurus
-Certaosaurus
-Cryolophosaurus
-Dilophosaurus
-Edmontonia
-Kentrosaurus
-Miragaia
-Pachycephalosaurus
-Sauropelta
-Stegosaurus
-Utahraptor

I don't think anything has yet been shown (including concept art from other artists) for the Cryolophosaurus, Edmontonia, Kentrosaurus, Miragaia, and Sauropelta, so I would be shocked if they are still planned for the kickstarter coming in October at this point in time. Cryolophosaurus may be feasible if it part shares with Dilophosaurus, but we have not seen anything regarding sculpt work for it yet, so no idea how far along it could be, if at all.

Some other things of note that have since changed over the past few years. The dragons were originally intended to be in their own separate line a while back, in fact I'm pretty sure there was even concept art for them, which I'm still digging for atm. If I find them, I'll edit them in to the above list (edit: does not appear to be any colored concept arts, so just refer to the below edit instead). Deinonychus was not initially planned for this upcoming kickstarter, but is clearly on the way for it now. Neither of the mammals were included in that initial list, and may have been planned later on, particularly newcomer Andrewsarchus. Hopefully we'll have a better idea of what the kickstarter will actually entail come time he goes to Power Con in August, never mind in October.

Edit: So here is the original concept art for the dragons back when they were intended to be in their own line:

I think there's still enough time for the dinosaurs not yet shown to make it into the Kickstarter.  I think there was concept art with the Kentrosaurus shown in the past.

Faelrin

avatar_Sim @Sim You might be right on that. I'll go digging for it later, and report back.

No, he means that the orange version will be offered in the Kickstarter while the green one will come later for BotM (which I hope it does since I personally preferred that one). He showed both color schemes like a year ago, although the orange one looked quite different. It kinda had a lighter color which I personally liked more than the new one since it looked more vivid (the iguana also looks more similar to that one), here hoping though that it will look more like that one in the end or that David does some kind of mixture between them both for the final product.

Yup, it's this one:

And I also think that it's still possible to see them in this Kickstarter since he mostly needs to show their color schemes, he might have them as some sort of wave 3 stretch goals (specially since he said that CZ figures will also come in waves if the KS gets funded) and show their sculpts later on after the KS gets funded like he did with some Ceratopsians and Tyrannosaurs (at least as far as I can remember).

Flaffy

Really hoping for a 1/35 scale Allosaurus later down the road. This sculpt looks amazing, and would be a shame if it's only available in the gigantic 1/18 scale.

David shared in the Tyrannosaur update today that more prototype reveals are on the way, and will be at this year's Power Con.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/creativebeast/beasts-of-the-mesozoic-tyrannosaur-series-action-figures/posts/3863773

So I guess it is possible we could be in for a surprise with those that haven't been seen before. Will need to wait and see. Even if the ones above don't make the cut for the kickstarter (unless they are stretch goals, and get developed during/after the kickstarter, as happened before with the previous kickstarters), I think we still have a very solid line up so far. I mean we have prehistoric mammals for the first time, dragons, humans, a mix of theropod groups that haven't been represented before in BotM, and at least one herbivore so far. I think this is also excluding any potential repaints of previous releases, which I don't think would be included in the kickstarter anyways since they aren't strictly new items per se.

In any case I asked David in the kickstarter comments if the ones not shown yet are still planned. The bulk of them are herbivores too.

Edit: I've mentioned it time and time again, but I would totally go for both the 1/18 and 1/35 versions (edit: if they were made). The 1/18 scale offers far more versatility in what can be made, like the tiny Velociraptor, but the 1/35 scale would be more cost affordable for folks, and those that need to conserve their space.

Halichoeres

Thanks for the rundown, Faelrin! Good to have that in one place. Some of these are really gorgeous but definitely a bit less up my alley than the first two campaigns.

Faelrin

Hey folks, David responded to me with this in the kickstarter comments. Very excited to see some of those surprises down the road. Only a few months away at this point. Still feels like yesterday when I backed the tyrannosaur campaign and it was revealed to be coming.

QuoteWe do have a LOT planned for Cyberzoic, so much so that it can't all be done in one Kickstarter. So while many of the species announced will be included in this first campaign, some will have to be held back for the next one. That being said, there are also species which have not been announced. I don't want to give everything away too soon because while teasers are fun, it's also good to be surprised. :)

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres Achillobator aside (I would think), are there any others, or are most offered not needed in your collections case?

Eocarcharia

Quote from: Creative Beast StudioFor this Cyberzoic Friday we have a look at our very first package art- the Achillobator with Razorhound armor! One might ask, 'if the armor is sentient, then why have a rider?' The rider is a hologram and is part of the disguise. The Tech Clan forbids artificial lifeforms.

Fantastic illustration work once again by Raph Lomotan.
