Quote from: Faelrin on May 02, 2024, 08:16:13 PMThey definitely did a Telltale Troodon before in late 2020/early 2021 (and while the sculpt wasn't great, Herrerasaurus as well in 2018)

Oh, you tagged the wrong person there...! I'm just Dilopho.

I know they did those before, I have the Troodon. But a) For an animal like Troodon, having full articulation would be much preffered. Just the ability to do things like have the head tilting would be great.

And to be honest, I think that's a poor attempt at the Telltale Troodon. The eyes are too small and too...normal looking (Glass eyes with no pupil behind them would be perfect!), it has a membrane instead of quills, and...well, it overall just doesn't look the same. It's the Telltale colours, but on a whole different body.

If they were gonna do a Troodon. here's how I'd rank the choices from best to worst:

Best: Telltale Troodon
Good: Mattel's own design
Okay: JWE Troodon
Bad: The Live show Troodon.

avatar_Dilopho @Dilopho Oops, got brain fog today and didn't look closely enough, my apologies.

I agree a HC one would hopefully be miles better. I actually bought a second mainline one off the store shelves for repainting, but never got around to it because of my depression, etc.

PrimevalRaptor

Agreed with the others, the glass eyes are kinda a hit-or-miss on most photos I saw so I could do without them but I may pick up that Pyroraptor, it ain't perfect but it's a massive improvement from the other available figures here.

Personally, I love the glass eyes. I totally get the backlash against them, it's hard to see the pupils.
But the way that they catch the light and shine just make them seem so much more like living creatures to me. It's a night and day difference between the old printed eyes and the new glass ones.

Just look at this photo from Gwangi's review of the Carnotaurus:

Dilopho

I really have to commend Mattel with the Hammond Collection figures lately. They feel like they should've been this way from the start.

Giganotosaurus

The Pyroraptor's paint looks so disappointing to me. 😢 This was one of my most anticipated figures.

Pachyrhinosaurus

Quote from: Faelrin on May 02, 2024, 07:25:23 PMSo thoughts on what they might do from here? At the very least we need the Spinosaurus, Indominus rex, adult Stegosaurus, maybe the Quetzalcoatlus, and Atrociraptor squad (though I'm not too interested honestly). Still would like the Dominion blue striped Parasaurolophus, (demon) Carnotaurus, Nasutoceratops, and Iguanodon (which desperately is in need of a resculpt), if not some Camp Cretaceous creatures like Bumpy, Pierce, etc. I'm wondering if the lack of medium figures is due to the new introduced scale, with the Carnotaurus, and maybe the Therizinosaurus.

Additionally from the first film are the baby triceratops, adult and baby parasaurolophus (would be a good opportunity for a better para sculpt!) and the young gallimimus. I'd be all for the tylosaurus as well.

A hammond collection Herrerasaurus in the style of the Jurassic Park Telltale game would be really cool. The warm color gradient is something that would look beautiful on a figure, not to mention an articulated herrerasaurus would be a dream come true for me.

Eatmycar

Please remember these are prorotype, lo res photos of these.

The final figures will look different, for better or worse.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Saw this new Spinosaurus coming to Jurassic World Alive :

Now Mattel can make an accurate Spino..or at least a more accurate one .  ;)

I still play Jurassic World Alive, but it doesn't make sense to see the paleo-accurate version of Spinosaurus in the Jurassic franchise, when the cloned version is already present in the franchise. Also, it goes against the statement from Dr. Wu that the DNA retrieved is not complete and hence, the clones are not perfect representations of their real life counterparts. I don't think that Mattel will make a paleo-accurate Spinosaurus, especially when the new Epic Attack Spinosaurus is coming soon but their most accurate Spinosaurid figure is probably the Dino Trackers Wild Roar Irritator.

Speaking of the upcoming Epic Attack Spinosaurus, here's an in-box image;

Interesting that the shape of the dorsal sail looks almost like that of a paleo-accurate Spinosaurus.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I don't know..they did make that Siamosaurus too which is kind of close.  Would be neat if the next movie of Netflix series used an accurate Spino vs the JP3 one?

They could always just do an accurate Spinosaurus sculpt with "Oxalaia" slapped on. Mattel may be allergic to making small species that actually appear on screen, but they certainly won't pass up the opportunity to make another big toothy theropod.

andrewsaurus rex

They should introduce a more accurate Spinosaurus to the franchise.   Easy to explain as having less 'frog DNA' in it and it would make for an interesting new addition with new traits (and new toys to sell).

They don't have to eliminate the older, leggy one.

Dino Dana did something similar.  All throughout the series Spino was the standard long legged critter, but for the movie, Spino had much shorter legs and a finned tail, although no explanation was given in the movie for the change in appearance, they just made it more up to date, scientifically.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Yeah it's not difficult. The concept was introduced in the original Jurassic Park novel. Wu said they would need to update the dinosaurs over time like software revisions. He even wanted to make them more docile and easier to manage.

Eatmycar

Hell, they don't really need to explain it. They changed the raptor designs for three movies and nobody really batted an eye.

Giganotosaurus

The dilophosaurus needs to be changed before the spino does.

Caught wind of this set from Jurassic Collector on instagram:

Edit: Right I got distracted by family for a bit and forgot what I also wanted to mention. I noticed that this new green Atrociraptor is like the one in the mini set. That leaves me to question what happened to Red? Not in the mini set either, but then again if Bumpy might be returning, they aren't in it either.

The Spitter is JP canon at this point frills and all.  They could introduce an adult version though maybe sans the frills like it's just a juvenile trait.
