I love that Doug Wilson guy's work ;)
You're right, he's quite the artist, but I think that he could learn a thing or two from you!

Oh, I am in love with that color scheme. As satisfied as I've been with the Battat figure, this one will definitely be joining it when available.
It's also nice to see a good-quality, naturalistic figure of this genus enter the market again, what with how scarce the Battat version has become.

I'm curious about the mouth line along the upper jaw; is that based on the narital gap or just a quirk of the lip tissue (or something in between)?

Faelrin

Hmm the more I look at the coloration, the more I get deja vu from it. After doing some digging, yeah, I know why now. It is totally reminding me of the Bullyland Lambeosaurus. Granted of the two, I feel like this sort of coloration works better on this new Cryolophosaurus, then on the Lambeosaurus (which I prefer PNSO's green and white take, but well until that released, I did get my hands on the below figure, as it was the only decent option for this animal at the time).

Quote from: Flaffy on July 29, 2022, 08:35:24 PMWow! What a great way to wrap up this year's lineup. The Cryolophosaurus is a lovely little guy, and imo is a far stronger figure than the Dilophosaurus and Concavenator. While I'm still perfectly happy with my Carnegie Cryolophosaurus, the new Safari one is easily a close second. A very good option for an accurate, affordable and accessible figure of this genus.

My ranking of Cryolophosaurus figures from major brands:
1) Carnegie
2) Safari
3) Battat
4) Papo (would be higher if only it had a less dramatic pose)
5) PNSO
5) Mattel
6) Schleich
7) CollectA

And with BotM's own take on the horizon, this is turning out to be a good year for the titular theropod!
The Schleich is above the CollectA? That's a first for me. I thought the CollectA one was a bit better looking.

Concavenator

I find its lack of feathers to be a bit disappointing, but that aside, I actually really like this new Cryolophosaurus, and I'm glad a very good figure of this genus is now widely available, but I already have the Carnegie one which I also love and I'm a 1/genus guy,  so I don't feel the need to replace it.

suspsy

Overall, this is a solid assortment, much more pleasing than last year's. I'm not at all crazy about the Stygi and the Nano, but the other four toys are great. Can't wait to get my hands on the Albertosaurus and the Zuul.

For 2023, I hope we see the return of non-dinosaurs, be they Paleozoic, Mesozoic, or Cenozoic. And I also think it's high time we saw another Doug Watson ceratopsian. Everything he makes is special, but his ceratopsians are unmatched. I prefer them myself to ones from CollectA and PNSO. Torosaurus would naturally be my top pick, followed closely by Centrosaurus. An obscure one like Agujaceratops or Coahuilaceratops would also be most welcome!

I'm also hoping for more ceratopsians from Doug, I used to look forward to one every year but it has been a couple now. My top picks would be Chasmosaurus and Pentaceratops but I'll take any ceratopsian he sculpts. Mammals too, I prefer Doug's prehistoric mammals over CollectA's.

Renecito

Zuul and Nanotyrannus (and green Anaconda) are my favorites of this year.
Favorite Brands:              Favorite Dinosaurs:
1 - PNSO                        1 - Carnotaurus
2 - Vitae                         2 - Spinosaurus/Suchomimus
3 - Eofauna                     3 - Therizinosaurus
4 - Carnegie Line             4 - Deinocheirus
5 - CollectA                     5 - Gigantoraptor

Dilopho

Next year's lineup should definitely be Monoclonius, Laelaps, Indominus rex and Barney

SpartanSquat

I hope next year we will see more non dinosaur creatures: Like someone said above, I wanna see more Doug mammals, for example a new Andrewsarchus would be neat. Paraceratherium, Deinotherium. If I would pick new dinosaurs for the future I hope a Plateosaurus, Torvosaurus, Edmontonia, some hadrosaur like a Lambeosaurus or Corythosaurus and more ceratopsian fellas like Torosaurus or Pentaceratops.

Dusty Wren

I would have loved to see at least one non-dinosaur, and preferably a mammal, in this year's line up. Also, I'm another forum member who misses Doug Watson's ceratopsians. They're such beautiful figures, it's a shame we haven't seen a new one in a while.

I do like the Crylophosaurus, though. It's a great sculpt with a striking color scheme. A strong finish to Safari's 2022 line up.
Check out my customs thread!

Faelrin

Hmm maybe we need a wants and dreams for 2023 thread? Or is there one already?

Honestly the Cryolophosaurus has been on my wishlist for years, so I'm glad to see it, and can't wait to get it.

I agree with other folks it would be nice to see another ceratopsian from Doug next year. I think the last one was the Styracosaurus in 2019 right? Honestly surprised Safari Ltd doesn't have a modern figure of Protoceratops yet. I guess that's another one of the older Carnegie figures we may see get a remake eventually. Would be nice to see it in scale with the current Velociraptor as well. Chasmosaurus, Centrosaurus, Pentaceratops, Torosaurus, etc would be nice as well. Chasmosaurus in particular has been neglected too long, outside of BotM.

As far as mammals go (since the last one we got was the Woolly Rhino in 2019), I still await a proper Aenocyon dirus/Dire Wolf. It'd clearly the best extinct canine to make a figure of, but yet, hardly anyone's bothered with it since Bullyland did theirs. I am surprised the recent paper didn't spurn on any figures of it yet either. Megaloceros would be my second pick, just because no one has done one with coloration based upon the cave art of it. Not really sure what else I'd go for at this point, since most of the ones I wanted to see now have been done.

Also in case it would be of help to anyone, the remaining Carnegie Collection genera that don't have modern remakes or available versions, and if they keep on the trend they've been doing for years now, I expect some of these will get remade in the future as well:

-Beipiaosaurus
-Brachiosaurus (only because the last one made is pretty dated now yeah?)
-Caudipteryx
-Corythosaurus
-Deinosuchus
-Deltadromeus
-Dilong
-Euoplocephalus
-Maiasaura
-Miragaia
-Mosasaurus (the current one available is pretty inaccurate)
-Oviraptor (I think the Citipati was the modern remake in this case, but listing this anyways)
-Plateosaurus
-Protoceratops
-Saltasaurus
-Sinraptor
-Tanystropheus

And here's some of the other species Safari Ltd made years (or over a decade) back that don't have modern versions:

-Dunkleosteus (dated now)
-Guanlong
-Gorgosaurus (Albertosaurus is pretty close enough though)
-Hypacrosaurus
-Kentrosaurus
-Leptoceratops
-Mamenchisaurus
-Nigersaurus
-Postosuchus (dated now)
-Rhamphorhynchus
-Tapejara or Tupandactlyus
-Therizinosaurus
-Utahraptor (continues to be high on my wishlist)
-Yangchuanosaurus

Honestly? Even though it hasn't been an AMAZING year from Safari (however I must say the far majority are beautiful), it's not a bad one. A lot of the negativity I've seen is via colors rather than sculpt, which I personally don't mind. The last release, Cryolophosaurus, is wonderful and I don't doubt the best figure of this year from them. I will certainly be picking up most of the 2022 batch later this year!

Thank you for the awesome figures, Safari!  ;D

There actually are a surprising amount of fan requests for an Indominus Rex from people who don't seem to grasp that the entire reason for its creation was to give Universal its own "copyrighted" dinosaur.

Gwangi

I would be thrilled to see a Monoclonius (Centrosaurus) or Laelaps (Dryptosaurus) from Safari.

Earlier in the year people doubted that Safari would be releasing anything at all, now here we are with 6 dinosaurs, double the number we got last year. The Albertosaurus and Cryolophosaurus were both heavily requested. The Zuul is outstanding and the first figure of its genus. Even the Nanotyrannus, despite being called such, will make for a nice juvenile T. rex and I plan to get it for that reason. Safari has had a great year as far as I'm concerned.

Dilopho

I was just joking of course  ::)
My serious most wanted figure from Safari would be a Megalosaurus, and not as a small figure but one they really put some love into. I like the CollectA one, but it's kind of, yknow...easily overlooked.
I wonder how long before a company makes Meraxes?

That's depressing on several levels.
