This Ichthyovenator looks really nice, and I am excited about it.Wondering if it is in the Dino Prey series(?),
because of the fish inclusion.Love the figure.I have been wanting more Spinosaurids since some time, they are a nice family of dinosaurs.CollectA really strikes the market with exotic, cool species like this.I like unusual choices just like this:

I have to say, thanks,CollectA,on releasing exotic spinosaurids and congratukations for the excellent model. The Spinosauridae family is mostly represented by Spinosaurus and, sometimes,Baryonyx. But there are other that are also beautiful like Suchomimus,Ichthyovenator...etc.By the way,if I remember correctly in the 2013 Hopes & Dreams Thread someone said something for a CollectA Ichthyovenator.Glad there are manufacturers who produce unusual and cool dinosaurs.
These are my thoughts about the current 2014 figures:
Deluxe 1:40 Carcharodontosaurus:a really really nice figure.Certainly there were a lot of requests for carcharodontosaurids dinosaurs. The fact they have included a Carcharodontosaurus in their Deluxe range looks like a fine choice. The first CollectA Deluxe Carcharodontosaurid.

Stegosaurus corpse:the Dead Triceratops model made sense,as it made CollectA the 1st brand in the history who produces dead dinosaurs, hunting dinosaurs to create original and realistic dioramas, who reconstruct the past times. As CollectA said, the success of the 1st carcass would make of another dead dinosaur,an exciting and reasonable addition.

Ichthyovenator:we dinosaur fans were praying for more spinosaurids. This amazing and unusual release is very anticipated,as there are very few Spinosaurid figures other than the well known Spinosaurus. This must occupy a place in the unique species list. The fish inclusion looks cool and accurate for this animal,as there are evidences that suggest Spinosaurids were piscivorous, and that the Ichthyovenator meant is "fish hunter".

2014 looks like an amazing year for CollectA.The fact they are introducing unusual and anticipated dinosaurs make dinosaur enthusiats happy.i think ths will be an awesome year for CollectA.Congratulations for the CollectA team, and, again, thanks for listening to fans.

By the way,its size looks like similar to this of the Irritator(at least for me).If someone could say its size,I would be grateful. Thanks for sharing  :)

Ichy looks interesting. I don't think I really like it, to be honest :-\ It looks kinda like it might have issues standing. Like it might topple over forwards.

I might wait until better pics are released, but I'm not crazy about it. Typical CollectA for me, failing to hit the mark :(

Also, Ichthyvenator has the most tricky name of any dinosaur to write out, ever.

Everything_Dinosaur

Thanks for getting the pic up, Ichthovenator is going to be added to the not to scale Collecta model series, production is scheduled for later on this year, with figures available in the early spring (dependent on Chinese New Year and shipping etc).  Everything Dinosaur team members have prepared a short piece on Ichthyovenator, how it fits into the Spinosaurids, what other dinosaurs provided templates for this design, actual model dimensions etc in today's blog post: Ichthyovenator Puts Laos on the Palaeontology Map

Everything_Dinosaur

Dimensions of Ichthyovenator - it measures 22cm long approximately, this is a measurement from the tip of the jaws to the tip of the tail.  The model when measured at the hips stands around 8.5cm tall.

Also, I just realised something- when I first glanced at it, the model reminded me of this old CollectA figure

Okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration, but the spikes are a bit overdone.

A bit of instant feedback for you all.  The prototype stands quite well, however, in anticipation of queries from collectors and fans of Collecta in particular, a number of avenues were explored with regards to stability.  We pointed out that since the forelimbs were unknown then it would be feasible to modify the posture and have one or both hands or even a single claw touching the ground.  This would have looked quite realistic and given the model the desired three points of contact to stabilise.  However, the second option was to come up with a base, something that would enhance the model as well as give it the stability.  This is what is being done and prior to tooling a base will be added to the model.  We have suggested something typically riverine.  It is very likely that this figure will have a base when it comes out of the tooling stage and into pre-production before the first of the major production runs.  If we can get a picture of the model ready for production we will post it up for you.

I agree with the base idea.I really love the model.I agree with you in the idea of putting a "riverine"base, that would be very nice.If this model wears a riverine base, and can fit with CollectA's trees it would be even better

This is a nice choice. I'll definitely be picking it up.

Looks promising and I love the species choice. As usual though, I will wait for the final product before I decide if I truly like it. Based on the pictures alone though, I am excited for both the new CollectA theropods.

I was wondering if they were going to make one.  The spines look weird for a Spinosaur though.

SpartanSquat

Good to see Collecta is making exotic prehistoric animals like Itchyovenator, but like someone said before, the dermal spines are too big for me. I hope this one wont have problems of balance like Rajasaurus and T-rex with prey.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Well it's getting a base so no problem with stability.  Yeah the spines are a bit large, but it's different so I'm good with having one spinosaurus in my collection with them.  Perhaps they were trying to do what Favorite did with their popular new Spinosaurus :

Granted Favorite's is a bit smaller..but spine son spinosaurs just make sense to me.

juju1305

well, that's +1 in my CollectA 2014 wishlist. I'll be getting them all.

Wow...never even heard of this (basal?) Spinosaurid until today...

...as far as the figure goes, can we see some more photos from different angles?  This photo makes the body look awkward - look at the stomach- the head looks tantalizingly nice but we need to see the profile...I am suspecting that this is yet another example of dino toy companies somehow picking the LEAST flattering photo angle to use as the official photo....

when are all the other new Collecta 2014 figure photois being released?  I thought all of them would be out today, instead we just get one???

Now if only the Favorite Spinosaurus actually stood like its shown in the photo above .... the legs are so thin that mine started to sag very quickly so its not looking up any longer...as that happened it started falling out of its base and falling over ...  :(

There was a pose earlier about releasing pics of 2014 figures. They are NOT releasing it all today, it will be a low release, like one a week till the end of the year or something like that. This is something that really is clever, and non of the other companies have done before  ;)

Awesome looking figures! Another odd and exotic species from CollectA. I have never even heard of this species before till now  ;D Gotta love how CollectA take risk in their choices of species. Now, hopefully for their choice of 2014 ceratopsian, it will be that new bull-looking one :)

Everything_Dinosaur

The plans as agreed with Collecta and other major parties is to drip feed the releases over the summer months with  just two or three (from across all the model ranges - prehistoric, farm, sealife etc) per week.  All releases will be public knowledge by September, production scheduled to being for a number of lines in November.  As for the query about pics, we will probably get permission to release picture of Ichthyvenator with base once tooling is over and model is ready for pre-production and final testing.  If we get permission dino toy forum readers will be amongst the first anywhere to know about it.

Hope this helps.

therizinosaurus

I'm just happy that the figure is ~1/40 scale, interesting sculpt, will probably pick this one up eventually.

I think its a little to soon for them to make one
