Blade-of-the-Moon

All four of the ones i ordered were first wave so they shipped today.

Faelrin

I just saw that my Velociraptor (the original bearded vulture inspired one), Dromaeosaurus, and Dromaeosaurus Fan's Choice shipped today. I was totally not expecting mine to ship today. Guess I better get started on that Dromaeosaurus review for the blog then in the mean time.

David says that my package should be shipping either tomorrow or Monday, I'm so excited! ;D

Minmiminime

So. Very. Jealous >:D I can't wait to see everyone's pictures! My 'raptors are mostly Wave 2 so I'm having to be patient that little bit longer...

Ahh, so excited but so jealous! I've just gotta hold out til May, hopefully that's when I'll get mine :D

Faelrin

Well I got my first batch of deluxe raptors earlier today. For the most part they are everything that I have been waiting for these two long years. I'll try to get pictures of them tomorrow (when I have better light), with the accessory packs, and some Hasbro JW and Safari Ltd figures to give an idea of size.

Now for the few downsides that might be worth serving as a head's up. The first one is that the knee joints on the figures were very tight, and I thought I was going to break them when trying to move them. I probably should have ran it under hot water or something to loosen it up first, assuming it wasn't paint in the way causing that. The next issue is that the jaw on the regular Dromaeosaurus will not fully close. I don't know why this is. I'm not sure if the head is warped (like in the case of the Mononykus from the Desert Accessory Pack I dealt with a bit ago), but it only closes about halfway or so. Also the Dromaeosaurus has some tiny white specks here and there on it, but nothing major (I think they are where paint rubbed off?). My third issue is that I can't seem to get the smaller clip designed for the jumping rod on their pelvis. I'm going to guess I might need to use hot water or a hair dryer on it since it won't fit as it is. Getting them to stand on their bases after posing them was kind of a chore/fight, but all is well now (using the U shaped clips).

Lastly, I'm not sure if this should fully count as an issue really, since it is more of a personal preference thing, but I feel like the paint on the knee and leg area could have been better on the Fan's Choice (Kestrel) Dromaeosaurus. I really do like the rest of it, but the way that area has been painted is kind of jarring with the rest of it. Maybe I just had too high of standards after the prototype and paint sample pics, but eh. I haven't unboxed it yet since I'm not sure if it is worth trying to exchange for another one, or if I should just get some paint to touch it up since it is really only there that I have an issue or nitpick with.

Anyways some quick pics taken on my dad's bed for now:

Awesome, thanks for the head's up. Still loving the Velociraptor. Hope to grab a bunch of them soon.

Minmiminime

Wow, they are beautiful! Thank you for posting those ^-^ The Velociraptor appears simultaneously less and more orange than I was expecting, I hadn't noticed that it's mostly fawn and yellow colours before, but with a bright orange head..! For some reason I thought it was mostly bright orange. They all look very well done, I'm looking forward to seeing more pics :)

The packaging is very well-thought and attractive. Silva should think of starting a line of PVC figures too, he could easily outrun Rebor.

THORRIDUS89

Is the Ceratopsian line going to have a kickstarter as well?

Blade-of-the-Moon

Shadowknight1

My Velociraptor and Zhenyuanlong have shipped.  Gotta wait for them and then the next wait for my Adasaurus.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Cretaceous Crab

I recently got one of the Build-a-Raptor Kits that are unpainted. I had submitted a review to the DTB, but have yet to receive any response. [*coughs* ahem]

Faelrin

So for the first thing, after contacting David on the kickstarter and using his advice for the issue with the Dromaeosaurus jaw not closing, I used an exacto to clean up any excess paint and/or plastic that I saw from the upper and lower jaws (after removing the head from the figure). The right jaw tissue (looking at it front the front) on the lower jaw was slightly warped so I ran it under hot water and pushed it out to the side a little bit. The jaw closes much more now then in my previous image (and the ones below which I took much earlier):

Anyways, have some images between the figures and the accessory packs:

In any case finally receiving these figures has been a wakeup call that I am going to need to rearrange, clean, and move things since I very clearly do not have the space in this particular area for the other three figures coming in Wave 2 that I ordered (the Acheroraptor, Fan's Choice Saurornitholestes, and the Kickstarter exclusive Velociraptor).

Most of the jaw+head combos on the B-A-R sets can't close entirely either. Its not a huge problem, and I'm sure shaving down some the plastic would help, but I'd say about 75% of the combos don't fit together quite right.

Joints are also super stiff when you first start posing them, but I've found both of mine became much more flexible after moving them around for a few minutes. With that in mind the issue is almost assuredly the paint/primer getting in the way, otherwise the joints seem pretty smooth.

I got it almost a decade ago (2009 I think for my birthday?). I sadly no longer have any of the packaging or accessories (except the wings which are in one of my storage bins in my room somewhere), since that was lost with the rest of my action figures (which consisted of FFVII Play Arts and the NECA Castlevania figures) from back then a few years ago (late 2013 I think?) when they got put into my parent's storage unit when we had to move into less then stellar living conditions. I only managed to hang onto this because I smuggled it in my backpack that I brought with me then. If only I didn't cave into my mother's pressure and put the rest of my action figures (there was actually space there for them) into that storage unit I'd still have them. Anyways, I'd suggest checking ebay, but I have no idea what the prices go for one of these.

The Kain and Raziel NECAs are OOP. They go for quite a lot these days, especially if they're boxed.

I had Kain (my fave!) but sold him. I'm kicking myself now.

Good thing I still have it then, if it goes for a lot these days. I won't be selling it anytime soon though.

Anyways, back to the BotM stuff, I took some quick images with my crappy phone camera since I finally took the Fan's Choice Dromaeosaurus out of the packaging. With some info from David, once I can get the supplies I need, I'll be adding some dry-brush to the leg area below the knee. Edit: Removed the temp pics and replaced them with better quality images (these are also in my collection thread):

Second Edit: Some more pics that I took for my Dromaeosaurus review but didn't use. Enjoy! You can also make out how my Fan's Choice Dromaeosaurus is missing the darker orange wash on the area below the knee. I plan to 'correct' that at some point. I ought to take some better quality pics of the Velociraptor with the amber nestlings and desert pack tomorrow.

Got my Dromaeosaurus pair today! So far I'm liking them a lot. I think the paint application looks great for what it is; the fan's choice one especially. Very vibrant.

The standard color variant's jaw was having problems staying in the socket. I had to take a hobby knife and really scrape off paint to get it to fit properly, but it still pops out pretty easily. Not the end of the world but annoying.

Otherwise seems pretty sturdy. Leg joint are definitely stiff, but function properly.
