Hallo.  :)

My apologies to you. I feel like I need to explain myself though, if that is allowed by the cop etiquette  ;)

Honestly my phrasing is what I consider to be civilized and adult. Civilized and adult to me includes inthelectual agressivity too (why not?), as long as the other person is never personally insulted. So of course I was agressive against his ideas and positions. I don't respect ideas I don't agree with, I want to fight them. Still no matter what I always respect the person itself. That's why I never insulted this good man at any moment (never said "YOU ARE Whatever"). In fact It's me who was called "ridiculous", something that I absolutely didn't take as a serious insult, but actually as an "invitation" to become even a little more assertive on the debate,  >:D  and I answered back telling that ridiculous was some of his answers and postures (again, never said HE was ridiculous).

If this "rude" style is not tolerated, I understand, man. But I cannot go to a softer place, I had my experience on that and it's way too frustrating. I come to discussion forums to discuss and to confront ideas. I wrote my first post there (a quite long one) exposing my point of view and proposing a specific discussion and I was totally ignored. Then I go more "rude" (as you say) and I got 100% of attention.  :o  Yet it's not the attention I wanted because what I wanted was to discuss the JW subject and instead got into an alternate discussion with an old man about whose of our sabers was longer.

I lived this already back when I was a regular member. Frustration is called.

Well... Salutes brother. As Gwangi said, seems I came back with a "bang".  :))

Patrx

I've just noticed that the raptors aren't bobbing their heads like they often did in earlier films.

That's a form of verbal abuse that does not contribute to a debate, help advance your opinions or dispute opposing opinions.

I would have been insulted if you talked to me the way you responded to Doug.

That's why I never insulted this good man at any moment (never said "YOU ARE Whatever").

You called him an old man. You also insult indirectly. For example, you say the movie is for silly people. It follows that people who like it (or the trailer) are silly. Silly means stupid. So, you're essentially saying Doug is stupid (and that I'm stupid, for that matter). It is rude to judge people in this way. Doug is correct - it is elitist. It's an "I'm better than you because I'm not stupid" attitude. It may be unintentional but that's how it comes off. So, please feel free to discuss and debate the movie as much as you like, but don't provoke individuals by calling into question their intelligence, age, or personal taste.  C:-)

By the way, please don't reply to this. There's no need to take this thread off topic any more. It is for information and a warning only. PM me if you want further clarification about what is and isn't okay on this forum. Thanks!

I tend to agree with the others in this vein, I feel Doug presented some ideas and thoughts which are his own and explained them quite well. I had typed out a rather thoughtful response to them and chose to backspace it into oblivion because I feel this thread got very rude and personnal in the comments aimed at Doug. I instead commented in the thread regarding raptors and Bakker rather than step in what was happening here.

Scientific discussion does not include personnal attacks, being confrontational nor assigning imaginary weaknesses to the person you or view you wish to debunk of question. I often disagree with Gwangi, Tyrannt Queen, Patrx and others here, but I think every single one of them without question would also state I treat and interact with the people themselves as friends and respectfully. We just have different opinions and at the end of the day that is alright....I can accept their views and they seem to make enough space for mine to exist as well. At the end of the day we share a love for dinosaurs and we dont let the small things distance us .
I completely disagree with Doug's views about Jurassic Park myself. But it also does nothing to alter my perception of someone I consider a friend . I do feel the comments made to him were rather goading and rude....sorry, my two cents.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

...
And again, I fundamentally don't like the idea of including explicitly made-up dinosaurs in a JP movie.  Seems like it undercuts the whole idea of Jurassic Park, as a place where you go to see real dinosaurs.  If the film was Mutant Monster World, fair enough.  A big part of the public fascination with dinosaurs is that they actually existed.  There are so many actual cool dinosaurs they ignore because they think they can do better.

Talking about it with my brother, who might be an even bigger fan of the original than I am, he felt the effects looked very artificial.  I think some of it is those swooping computer camera moves over the obviously digital monorail.  We also agreed that the stegosauruses looked better in TLW.  Although we await finalized VFX improvements.
...

My thoughts exactly! Still I expect to enjoy the film as it will most likely be decent popcorn entertainment! :)

QuoteThat's a form of verbal abuse

That's a form of prejudice.

Quotethat does not contribute to a debate, help advance your opinions or dispute opposing opinions.

It doesn't help either that of 21 phrases I wrote, you only find 2 words worth commenting and ignore the meaning of the rest as a whole. That your sensitivity chooses to put the focus only in the how and not on the what, driving it away from the subject of the debate propossed to instead open a new one about if I am a verbal raper.
This isolating of words and ignoring the global message seems like a common disease here. And it's not new. I know this won't make me welcomed next time I come around, if I do, but I have to say it.

I am willing to go since it's obvious I won't fit in this sensibilities in a million years. But one last thing: let me tell you you feel insulted way too easily, and it doesn't speak as much as how rude I am but how fragile a part of you is. Apparently you think that if someone proves that you aren't right it means he proved you are not intelligent. Well, guess what, in that... you are wrong. This Falacy seems not to be a problem for the forum, since you feel comfortable thanks to these rules that protect it. Not a problem for you, but the aseptic tone needed to maintain this aseptic order definitely is a problem for me.

Take care.
And please know I also have a bunch of very good memories of this forum.

Doug Watson

I would like to say one thing that I regret about the debate that I was embroiled in. After it was stated they he didn't expect me to understand his point I felt slighted and I resorted to pointing out his grammar and spelling mistakes. Before doing that I checked his profile to see if he was from a non English speaking country but no location was noted in the profile so I assumed English was his first language. Normally after finding out the opposite I would have apologized but since he continued to slight me in his next post I did not. So I now apologize for pointing out those language mistakes since I deeply appreciate how hard it is to express ones self in a foreign language and appreciate the attempts that our members who are not English make to contribute here and I would never knowingly insult any of them for trying.

P.S. I would also like to thank all those who have commented in my support since Dr. Admin chimed in. It is very much appreciated.

It certainly does appear that way huh? Kind of like their heads are static and only the rest of the body is in motion. Kind of off putting, hope they tweak the CGI on that.

I dont know if somebody saw the dinosaurs from JW lego line, also show the d-rex.

debate master! excellent mic drop

On topic: the tame raptors kill me, they really do, not that they don't fit in the universe, they showed glimmers that they respond to sound mimicking in 3, and falconry and all that. Plus they could have been bred to be more docile or even genetically nudged in that direction, but it just seems fan fiction-y

on that same note the "kill anything" mutant doesn't bother me it could be a side effect of the genetic manipulation that it shows hyperaggresivity which has been achieved in real animals:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RypuiEOouZ0
though it presents itself in a more celluloid manor in the movie.

Looking at the image the thumb does not look as opposable as I first feared

personally I like it
its more reminiscent of how modern dinosaurs move their heads while moving, which is to say that as a bird moves its head maintains an illusion of remaining static

The Park is open! The site is up and unlocked! :D It is awesome, and I'm thinking that the site will unlock more things as the film gets closer to it's release into theaters.

Hmm at first I didn't like her, then I got a second look and now I really really want to see with she can and will do. D-Rex looks terrifying and simple awesome. Jurassic Collectibles pointed out that her 'finger' claws are really long almost like a therizinosaurus' claws.
