avatar_ITdactyl @ITdactyl See my edit above (or last page actually) for more info on this scene.

Also it was kind of (albeit weakly) addressed in Jurassic World, in the scene between Masrani and Wu discussing the creation of the Indominus rex. I'm sure there will probably be something in the film addressing that further as this will be the first major exposure to feathered dinosaurs to the public.

avatar_PrimevalRaptor @PrimevalRaptor Indeed it is. I too have hopes this will finally move things in the right direction (once again), and hopefully this inspires another generation of new Paleontologists, as the original film once did.

Adding feathers but ignoring geographic range*... hmm... reminds me of the mildly hot pyroclastic flow in the last film. ;D

*if that teaser image is indeed a shot from the "flashback" scene and not a composite.

I remember liking that blink-and-you'll-miss-it explanation from Dr. Wu. I also remember how much it was dismissed and derided by people for various personal reasons. While I don't want the film to take itself too seriously, it'd be nice if the appearance of feathers on the newly created dinosaurs would be a plot point.

Also, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin , the "raptors" from "WwD: 3D" would like a word. ;D That was a pretty big (if not well received) intro to feathered dinos.
*I know you probably just meant within the JP franchise.

Gwangi

I've been saying it since the last film, I feel confident we'll see more feathered dinosaurs in the next movie. Up until now we've only seen InGen dinosaurs, their own unique brand with their own modifications. The technology is out of the box now. Other companies will produce the dinosaurs they want, including genetically pure and accurate dinosaurs. Yes, a lot of that is wishful thinking, but it also seems like a logical progression for the franchise and an excuse to include updated dinosaurs without ruining continuity. Pyroraptor is rumored for the next film and I would not be surprised if feathered Pyroraptors completely replace scaly Velociraptors in the franchise, Blue is the last of her kind after all.

Faelrin

avatar_ITdactyl @ITdactyl Yeah that's true. That was technically first, but that came out in 2012 or 2013? Wasn't universally received either from what I recall. Hoping this does better. Plus this is also the Jurassic franchise that has mega blockbusters so this is or hopefully will be the best shot to correct public perception (somewhat).

avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi Very good points to consider especially taking into account the

Pyroraptor and Dodgson and/or Biosyn returning.

I love these dinosaur designs, and some recent articles have given more light onto whats going on in this scene. I hate the fact that all these dinosaurs are somehow living together lol.

Oof. Already having Moros there is questionable, but that's worse. Ah well, I'm sure it'll be entertaining as Disney's Dinosaur was for me.

Also species mentioned in this thing:

Spoiler

Dreadnoughtus (kind of makes sense, after the vial with its dna was shown in FK)
Quetzalcoatlus (this is the second time a figure Mattel did first becomes a canon animal, though granted it did feature in the teaser thing before Jurassic World released)
Oviraptor (another feathered dinosaur, but dear god please have correct wings)
Pteranodon (will these be redone to have pycnofibers at least?)
Tyrannosaurus (sounds like we'll have another JPIII controversy on our hands too, although I am curious how this one will be done)
[close]

And obviously Moros and Giganotosaurus as already shown/teased.

Edit: Another article that goes into the plot details and species added:

Spoiler

Nasutoceratops will be returning (as expected), and Iguanodon! Which means there will be a toy from Mattel no doubt, as the leaks/rumors been saying, probably next year though!

Also it seems I was wrong to think it was the Giganotosaurus on the poster, with the subtle and short filaments, because it may actually be the T. rex based on the plot details.

Pachyrhinosaurus

It's disappointing that they're going to be so anachronistic with the dinosaurs in what's supposed to be a realistic depiction of a prehistoric environment. The species mentioned aren't even from the same location. I think they would have been better off with the rex being killed by either a triceratops or another rex. If it were up to me, I would have done it with a brachiosaurus so that it could reference the animated sequence in the first film.

That aside, I think it's great that the drive-in scene has been confirmed. I'm a big drive-in enthusiast and haven't been to a hard top since Fallen Kingdom came out. This makes it disappointing then that the preview will be an Imax exclusive.

Ouch. Still holding out hope that one-eye the allosaurus from B@BR shows up. Maybe that species list is just for the time travel bit.

I am kind of disappointed that they're kind of half ass-ing the accuracy by completely ignoring time periods and location. But I really can't complain that much. Let us all remember that time Alan Grant dug up a six foot "Velociraptor" in Montana.

Thats the fault of the Book "Pretdetorey Dinosaurs of the World", Which lumped Velociraptor with Deinonychus.    And Michael Crichton used it to write JURASSIC PARK.

I understand why its like that. But even then that's not a very accurate Deinonychus (And isn't the digsite in the film supposed to be 65 million years old anyway?). But in the film its a Velociraptor, and unless they retcon it, it will remain a velociraptor. Of course I'd prefer they were more scientific, it feels like one step forward two steps back. But Jurassic Park is a film series, and I'm ok with them taking liberties if it makes a more entertaining film.

So we got another reveal or leak and uh disappointment.
Spoiler

So if anyone remembers the leaked heads in Malta they are supposed to be Deinonychus unfortunately. Even if these are InGen assets (which is likely due to their inclusion on the DPG site poster and lack of feathers), these are still inaccurate, and extremely redundant considering JP raptors where based on Deinonychus. Plus the color schemes are too similar to TLW males and JPIII females. This will confuse the public further unless there is some real explanation for this (which I doubt), especially as the public won't know the difference when thinking Blue was the last of her kind too.

Edit: After reading some plot leaks (assuming they are legit) it seems to make sense why these are here. But not the biggest fan of this direction I guess. Could have been done better.

PrimevalRaptor

Gonna put my thoughts in spoilers but...this is a big "why" for me.
Spoiler
Like we DO at least have the Pyroraptor in hopes for a decent feathered dromaeosaur (in hopes that the model will look better than the toy leaks indicate) but I really wonder why we need another Raptor squad, especially when they basically look the same. Like I dig the colors but why bother making them Deinonychus?
If you're going with this, why not use the JWA design? It has inaccuracies but it's way more unique (and accurate) than the ones we got. Or heck, at least add SOME kind of integument to differentiate them from the "classic" JP Raptors.

Blade-of-the-Moon

The hand claws on the white version look odd? Maybe retractable like a cat?  Kinda feels like a new Raptor Squad.

Big spoiler warning here, assuming all of this is true info anyways.

Quote
Spoiler

"BioSyn's  Deinonychus (codenamed "Speed Dino" by  Mattel) is said to be in an  interesting position lore-wise, which will  be explained later on as  part of the plot. It has three variants, which  were given biome-based  codenames during production. Each of these  variants are based on a past  Velociraptor design: TLW's males, and JP3's  males and females. Two of  these were already seen in set leaks from  Malta. They are bigger and  "more maleficent-looking" than Blue.  Deinonychus are planned to replace  Velociraptor as the antagonistic  dromaeosaur in future films, so  "don't be surprised" when Blue is still  said to be the last of her  kind."

"The   Deinonychus are based on old Velociraptors from Sorna, which were artificially evolved with the intention of being "better" and more accurate. This explains why they use raptor color schemes from TLW and JP3. However, they ended up being larger, more violent, and more difficult to contain due to BioSyn's then-limited technology. (As an aside, the original JP3 raptors are mentioned to be a naturally evolved variant, which explains their differences from those in the first two films.)"

Spoiler

So a confusing, and very late retcon and name correction of sorts. Great. I mean it's already bad and confusing to have these literally alongside Blue the "Velociraptor" when the JP raptors have always been (loosely) based off of Deinonychus (otherwise why not go with the more complete long and low skull of the real Velociraptor for the first film, which still could have been upscaled for dramatic effect?), unless they retcon Blue into a Deinonychus as well to fix this inconsistency, but I can't imagine that will turn out good this late in any case. I'm just not sure why they couldn't have just gone with the original Stan Winston designs then in this case if this is a retcon of sorts, unless these are literally recreated from the old Sorna raptors (but that still means this is a confusing and late retcon either way). Granted this also has all sorts of complications and retcons pretty much all of the DPG site info, the InGen backdoor and Masrani viral site info, and some of the stuff in FK as well.

But nonetheless as all leaks take this with a grain of salt (though some of it has come true, for better or worse). And of course the leak could be leaving out important details, that would explain this mess better in the final film, but I feel like it can only do so much.

Also I did notice there are design elements in there from the Jurassic World raptors as well, just look at the necks.

By the way I forgot to mention earlier that the "Deinonychus" squad/pack pic I posted earlier came from a puzzle:

Edit: It seems that these may possibly be Atrociraptor instead (but again take all this with a grain of salt), which I mean it would still be really disappointing for these to not be feathered in that case, and once again over sized. The skull for Atrociraptor is perhaps a better profile match for these, then Deinonychus itself though. The downside is these are still widely inaccurate, and no better then the now outdated raptors from the first trilogy (which would have been preferable anyways at this rate). And ugh, another thing, I'm still waiting for some darn JPIII raptors for my collection, and now we have these which ain't quite it, but hopefully it gives them a reason to finally make them after this long.

Also here's a more complete list on official (new) confirmed animals for Dominion (plus two leaked already) and/or in this sequence only:
Spoiler

Deinonychus (edit: Or Atrociraptor now?)
Dreadnoughtus
Giganotosaurus
Iguanodon
Lystrosaurus
Moros
Oviraptor
Pyroraptor
Quetzalcoatlus

Plus at least the returning Tyrannosaurus (and a new design), Blue, and Nasutoceratops. There's also some others that have been leaked, but it remains to be seen if those will be in the final film, so I won't add them just yet. As with FK that's going to be a lot of animals being in this film, for better or worse, never-mind the long list of potential returning ones, like was in FK. I guess I'm hoping that some of these will be background/cameo animals, like those mentioned in this upcoming sequence, because that's quite a lot to cram in for five minutes (even if this is a BaBR type thing, separate from the film entirely, some of those at least will obviously return), not telling what else new may show up in Dominion, plus however many hours (I expect 3 at the absolute max). You only have enough runtime to spotlight so many of these, lest we repeat FK again as they did with the Baryonyx, Carnotaurus, and Allosaurus, etc, which kind of took away from the enjoyment of them being there to begin with, etc. I think CC in comparison has done a fantastic job returning to the roots and focusing on a particular animal or two for a sequence, with the exception of showing the herds where appropriate (such as the watering hole scenes in S2). All the same the show is a show, and is able to have more time to do things like that, instead of 1-3 hours only.

Of course, and I recall what happened when I saw JW1, how people at the cinema cried and clapped out of their minds when the Mosasaurus grabbed the Indominus. I looked at the young man at my side, totally shocked ... I'm expecting the same in here.

'Been reading through the old leaks for JW and FK and comparing them to the respective movies. They seem to be spot on, with the errors probably coming from missing context (order of the scenes, missing audio, missing vfx etc.). So if these same people are responsible for the Dominion plot leak, then be careful with your Google searches. Spoilers are everywhere.

'Read through the posts and didn't like what I saw BUT I expect I'll still enjoy Dominion like all the films in the franchise. I mean, so far my only complaints about the whole series are the unnecessarily violent deaths of Eddie and Zara and the consistent Sauropod abuse.

back on topic... yeah, those cat paws are something....
