i now hape the new spino

having it in hand, I can say that I really love the size of the figure. always a big fan of 1;35th scale sculpts and this is a really nice size figure for spinosaurus. i also can say that in terms of proportions it's likely the truest to the actual creature out of all the spino sculpts.

with that being said, I'll be honest that I still am not a fan of choice of integument and the pose. the left thigh does look to be in a position that is too far back for dinosaurs to achieve. and the paint choice and paint apps aren't really anything too special.

overall while not nearly looking a jarring in hand as what's seen in the photos, it's still a mediocre spino imo

PhilSauria

While I accept that this one has issues I'll still be buying this once it is available here, and maybe create a stand to display the swimming pose better. Like the size - fits in nicely with the Schleich (which I have already).

Thanks for the images.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I hate to say it but the Schleich actually looks better at least in the head area, bit more detail.  Both have teeth that are way too blunted though.

Shonisaurus

I like the 2019 Safari spinosaurus, but it hurts me to say it. I like the other brands in this case. I like Schleich more. He is a great figure but honestly for me he is the weakest figure in the Safari prehistoric group of 2019 after this year's tyrannosaurus rex.

My preferences have already commented on unpopular opinions and sincerely I stand firm in my opinion. The other ten figures of Safari including Safari 2019 stegosaurus are out of series and perhaps the best that has been made of each of the prehistoric animals but it would be hypocritical if he claimed that the Safari 2019 spinosaurus is the best figure of its kind scientifically updated.

Tyto_Theropod

More wins from Safari! Based on the preview pics I'd say I'll definitely be picking up the Carnotaurus and Styracosaurus at some point. The Allosaur looks pretty tempting too. The limbs are a little on the chunky side, but that's understandable for a toy. On the other hand, I'm kind of disappointed in the Stegosaurus, especially in comparison with the discontinued version. It could just be me, but the head looks way too big. I also feel like there's something off about the Citipati, but I'm having a hard time putting my finger on what. It looks fine anatomy and feather-wise, so maybe it's just that I just don't like the colours.

I think the Spinosaurus is a nice piece, but suffers from a very dull coloration. I feel that the sculpt will be seen truly shining when repaints start to surface. For me, sculpting wise, is on par with other Spinos like Schleich (I like it but I'm not crazy about it like most people) or collecta. I don't really mind the crocodile inspired scaling, it doesn't bother me.

Halichoeres

So many good Spinos this year it's hard for one to outshine the others. I think I'm going to wait for the PNSO just because it comes with a fish. That seems like the best tiebreaker.

Thanks for the links in the photographs avatar_Renecito @Renecito  Safari is updating the missing Carnegie collection with figures with a more than acceptable size. What I see unfortunately is that the buyer of these figures did not include the Safari pteranodon for me the most superb of all toy dinosaur brands, and I see that we will have to wait for the allosaurus of Safari 2019 to be commercialized with its new corrected paint layer. Magnificent Safari stegosaurus of 2019, I had a wrong opinion of that figure I think it will be a successful figure in terms of sales, although it will be a little difficult to get used to the new scientific appearance of stegosaurus.

Safari spinosaurus is very nice but as I said I have my preferences towards other sculptures of the same species.

You're welcome avatar_Shonisaurus @Shonisaurus And i agree with you it's hard to get used to the new stegosaurus reconstruction.

I'd say the opposite, I think it looks much more natural. In fact, now that there is the new reconstruction, the old version looked much weirder with those super long legs and arched back.Stegosaurus now is more similar to other stegosaurids, which is not so strange, after all.

I imagine once you receive your package, you just give a quick glance at the Spino before throwing it in the trash, and then just stare at the fish for the rest of the day  :P

Anyway, I was still in doubt but I think I might get the Safari Spinosaurus. Although the Papo one is beautiful as well, I'm afraid it's gonna be too expensive. I like the size of the Safari Spino, although I agree the paint job could've been better.

avatar_Tyto_Theropod @Tyto_Theropod: The head size of the 2019 Safari Stegosaurus appears to be the right size, to me.  For comparison:

1. Scott Hartman's Stegosaurus skeletal: https://www.deviantart.com/scotthartman/art/Roofed-reptile-overhaul-75933986
2. The Stegosaurus skeleton shown near the beginning of this paper: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0138352

The only thing I'm not liking about the new Safari Stegosaurus is the colouration it's ended up having.  I think the figure is wonderful otherwise.  I would be interested in seeing some photos that clearly show what the actual figure is like.

avatar_Concavenator @Concavenator, getting over my initial surprise at the new, anatomically correct re-conceptualization of the steg, I also am starting to see the older construction as oddly out of place with it's relatives. I suspect that within a few years the general public will start to come around, though that won't happen quickly. I suspect that it will take a while for some companies to adapt to the change too.

I don't know if I've missed something but the new Steg always looked right to me 😹 I am quite familiar with "Sophie", though I know it's not without its own controversies

I stand corrected! It's my own fault - I haven't really kept up to date with research on Stegosauria. I guess I've become very Theropod-focused! Like you I'm going to wait till I see other peoples' photos, but then I do that with any figure. If the only thing I don't like is the colour scheme I'll plan a repaint, so you could do the same either by yourself or through a commission.

The only thing stopping me from grabbing all the Spinos (other than budgeting!) is the controversy surrounding the Ibrahim restoration and the uncertainty over what an 'accurate Spinosaurus' actually is. AFAIK it's still very much up in the air. I personally like the Ibrahim look, but I'm also very nitpicky about accuracy in my models - I place the blame entirely on this forum! ;)

i now have the new spino

The biggest takeaway I get from this is that the Favorite Spinosaurus is a lot bigger than I thought it was. Probably would've gotten it last year if I'd realised it was that big. No matter, the Safari one will be easier to get soon, and I'm not getting more than one, so I'll get that one.

I'm with Concavenator, I didn't need to "get used to" the new Stegosaurus reconstruction, the moment I saw it I thought 'that makes sense, looks more like a real animal now'. I instantly took to it, I can no longer see the older version as a real animal anymore (the legs three times the size of its arms look silly to me now).

It is deceiving in this photo. The Favorite Spinosaurus is in the foreground with the safari being in the background. Seems like the head of the FavSpinosaurus would be up to around the top of the arm of the Safari Spinosaurus?
I can't wait to see a comparison pic show up on the comparison thread with all of the quadruped spinos released.

Fembrogon

The Favorite isn't that big - it's 10 inches long max. Perspective is playing with the photo.
It IS a pretty nice figure, though.

Shonisaurus

Of course as I have said several times the spinosaurus with its new appearance according to scientists is overrepresented by most brands fortunately and outstandingly.

Safari spinosaurus is no exception.

Favorite also makes figures of prehistoric animals more typical of collectors than for children, its resistance to accidental falls in terms of deterioration and abrasions is superior with respect to the rest of the brands. Magnificent figures both the spinosaurus of Favorite and the immense totality of prehistoric and wild animal figures by this brand.

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Ten inches long is still much bigger than I thought it was, I was thinking 5" long, maybe 6" at max.
