Impact of the Coronavirus and Self-Isolation

I've just been released from the 14 day quarantine for suspected COVID cases. 'Still sick, but at least it's not a case of COVID.

I've never been an outgoing person but that quarantine experience was not pleasant.

I'm just now reading through all the posts I've missed. I'd like to extend my condolences to the members who lost important people.  To those with family members dealing with COVID or any other ailment, may they have a speedy recovery.

unfortunately in most communities, these days if you are sick you are automatically considered a covid19 case.

avatar_sauroid @sauroid We are in the first period of mistrust, in my nation. There will be four phases, the last one at the end of June is to try to achieve total normality.

Too young to die that endearing actor. At first I thought it was because of the coronavirus.

People tend to think of nothing more else, which I think is much more dangerous than the virus itself.
I don't want to (and we probably won't) see the statistics about how many people have died in 2020
because they did not get the therapy they should. All hospitals are totally obsessed with the Corona virus.

Keep in mind that this is just one of the new viruses mankind is going to be confronted with in the future.
Will we keep up what we do now every flu season and will be at risk of destroying the societies our ancestors
have grinded out throughout the centuries or will we accept one day that we have to live (or die) with it?
Mankind's biggest problem still is overpopulation. We all know that this is not ending well in nature.

medical experts and pharmaceutical companies are all rushing to find vaccines for this virus so i hope within the next few months we will have a solution (within the year or til early next year), as opposed to the estimated year and a half time to finalise an effective vaccine.

how's the quarantine situation in your cities/countries? is the restriction easing gradually? i heard that cases are starting to slow down and decrease and governments are starting to impose less restrictions, but i hope they dont become complacent to prevent a reinfection/second wave that would be even more disastrous.

In Australia it's...actually going quite well. The rate of new cases has been massively reduced all over and in some states and territories there's been zero new cases recorded for days or even weeks. There's going to be an easing of restrictions in most places. My own state isn't easing anything for the moment but their approach has been very cautious so far so I suspect we're waiting to see what happens in the other states, and in the meantime we've massively increased our ability to test and trace new infections, so if easing restrictions leads to a spike we can hopefully get it under control easily. Though I doubt we'll go back to *exactly* how we were pre-pandemic within the year, I'm feeling like September will be when we can start going out again.

Anyways, aside from all that I made my first trip out of the house after several months, due to the arrival of masks made from a family member, since there was no way I was going to go anywhere without at least wearing some form of face protection. My mother was in a search of a board game for my nieces, and stuff for dinner, etc, so I went with her to two Target stores (first store didn't have what she needed so we called and checked the other store out after they confirmed they had what we needed). While she went in to search for what she was looking for, I made a quick stop by the Jurassic World section just out of curiosity and to pick up a few things that were available (Tarbosaurus, and some mini figures for myself and my nieces). I don't know if that was the best idea, but thankfully nobody was really around when I stopped by there to look, in both stores.

Going out *specifically* for toy shopping probably isn't the best idea, but you were out for necessities so I'd say it's fine as long as you keep social distancing in mind. Plus we all need something to stop ourselves going insane in these weird times.

My condolescence is with everyone who suffers from the consequences of this virus.
As for me, I feel how the situation sucks the marrow out of my presence. There´s no such thing as an ordinary day at the moment, while the most necessary thing I need are ordinary days. Lately I even duck out of tasks which have to be done,  regardless of the situation.
Keep going, everybody, let´s do our best!

avatar_ITdactyl @ITdactyl Sorry to hear you've been in quarantine. That certainly must have been a most unpleasant or rather horrible experience. I hope you start to feel better soon as well.

My heartfelt condolences for those who have passed in the first person (directly infected) or have had relatives, friends or acquaintances and deceased. That is not desirable to anyone. Hopefully a vaccine will be found not only for that disease but for the rest of the world's deadly diseases.

avatar_ITdactyl @ITdactyl My encouragement and congratulations that you have overcome the quarantine. Everything has a solution in life except death. I'm glad you healed.

The UK has now overtaken Spain as the country with the third most deaths in the world, and is close behind Italy in second place after USA in first. As such, it shouldn't be a surprise that although thankfully I don't have any immediate friends or family who have been affected by this, I have just one degree of separation from a few serious cases. The father of one of my coauthors, the cousin of a work colleague, a friend of my father, and the mother of a good friend and colleague, have all died with Covid-19 in the past few weeks. We can only continue to take sensible precautions...

I know, I made a bad joke about the coronavirus earlier. But i realized why you guys really disaproved. All you see is just people making bland jokes about the virus. They go like" OOOOHHHHH, U HAV CORONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" and its so damn annoying.

P.S sorry for that joke earlier

avatar_DinoToyForum @dinotoyforum I am very sorry for the deaths of people close to people from your work and friends and your relatives your father. Dear Mr. Administrator, I accompany you in the feeling. We are experiencing a global tragedy of unprecedented proportions. May those who have passed away unfortunately rest in peace with God.

My mother literally tried explaining to me that we need to build up herd immunity, by opening things up and exposing more people to it, without a vaccine first, and couldn't seem to understand why that's probably a terrible idea. I am appalled that she thinks this is a good idea.

it is sad that she literally wanted to cull out the weak and the infirm, in this case older people and those who have pre-existing health issues, that means people who are our loved ones.

During times like these, it is never good to always focus on the bad. I am unaware if any of the members of the forum fall under these categories, but I believe we should all give a big shoutout and thank you to the heroes on the frontlines. Thank you to all first responders, doctors, nurses, National Guard, any employees serving or delivering food, grocery store employees, teachers, and any who are pushing for the good of their country, community, and fellow citizens. Your work and efforts are appreciated. Again, I am unaware if any of you reading this are those mentioned, but if you are, you are truly a hero. If anyone wants to join me in this thanks, please do, because these dedicated people are making massive sacrifices and deserve every amount of praise we can give.

Thanks, MP

Thanks avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin , avatar_Shonisaurus @Shonisaurus .

Sharing a story related to avatar_Stegotyranno420 @Stegotyranno 's post.  'Day I got out of the quarantine facility, several of my friends (and some relatives) decided to lighten the mood by making crass corona jokes. Admittedly, part of me was offended - but I still ended up laughing. The experience (with the quarantine) was awful but laughing about it felt cathartic.

That said, I've never minded people who still make jokes about the topic. But my mood will change if someone goes to me and says that the whole covid thing is just a hoax.

Well cases of Covid 19 have been reported, but kept secret as to there whareabouts in the county i live in. However. a  Pizza Joint in my home town that was only doing Delivery and Carryout orders, has recently closed because the manager tested positive for the virus. Make matters worse. Tommorow is the day that the state of Iowa allowed most non essential buissness to open up. meaning, more people are now going to be put at risk.

Needless to say.  Im scared to leave the house to go for a simple walk.   But i do have washable masks now

The UK initially and briefly favoured the herd immunity idea but very quickly changed tack.  A group of scientists hurriedly ran some projections and came up with a possible death toll of around half a million for the country, if memory serves me right.  Rightly the politicians decided this was an unacceptable tally; plus the National Health Service would have been overwhelmed by the flood of cases and would have collapsed quickly into chaos.  There is, of course, also the issue of the remaining uncertainty about whether catching Covid-19 does actually give you future immunity.

sauroid

there are people actually getting reinfected after getting a negative result.
