Kosmoceratops (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)

…he fenestrae as well but are absent elsewhere on the body, as you would expect at this size. Despite excellent products from CollectA and Kaiyodo I find the PNSO Kosmoceratops a more realistic, and well-made model. This is a small, lively figurine of a very flamboyant dinosaur that should find a home on every collector’s shelf. The PNSO Kosmoceratops can be found on amazon.com….

Archaeopteryx (version 2, 2017)(Museum Line by Bullyland)

…n cover the underside. Details in the sculpt include the scales on the bird-like feet, the different types of feathers on the body and underside, the feathers on the tail, the nostrils, and the wing veins. The right leg and the tail are raised high in the air for a dramatic pose. While first impressions tell us that this is an Archaeopteryx, looking closer reveals that this figure is likely more a caricature than the real animal. This is what woul…

Prehistoric crocodiles (Toob by Safari Ltd)

…Rutiodon To conclude, I highly recommend this toob, and once again commend Safari Ltd for branching out. The weird world of archosauromorphs certainly provides us with something different from the usual line-up of tried and tested dinosaurs. Montealtosuchus Champsosaurus Here is the official Safari Ltd page for this tube, which is also available on Amazon.com here for a very reasonable $9.80….

Lambeosaurus (Wenno)

…gives hadrosaurs such as Lambeosaurus their nickname. The figure has a true-to-life knobbly texture all over, and a frilly row of keratinous scales running along the length of its humped back, which I’m fond of. The body is olive green all over. There is no brand name or animal name printed on the figure, it just reads “MADE IN CHINA”. So, expect Wenno figures to turn up every now and again in the Dinosaur Toy Forum’s ever-active figure identifica…

Dimetrodon (Playmobil)

…suchus, Dimetrodon, and rattlesnakes were separated by millions of years, but keep in mind that this toyline is set in a “lost world.” And speaking of worlds, let’s look at the playset. It consists of a grassy green base with a stream made of translucent blue plastic. There is a large two-headed cycad, a twisted dead tree, lily pads, reeds, moss, and a flowering plant. The dead tree is hinged at the base so that it can be collapsed over the stream…

Deinonychus and Velociraptors (Playmobil)

…d hips. It can be posed either upright or hunched over in a dynamic “poised-to-pounce” stance. The wrists are non-pronated, always a welcome sight, but the tail is too short. And of course, the figure is lacking feathers. The Velociraptors are also improved recolours of the originals. Their main colour is still orange, but they now have black spots and airbrushed red running down the length of their spines. Also included in this set is a dark gree…

Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptors (Playmobil)

…fun to play with, and the playset is well-designed and elaborate. Again, I’d have gone absolutely nuts over this as a kid. As it stands, I look forward to passing it on to my future kids. Highly recommended! Available from Amazon.com here. This has been my 20th review here at the Dinosaur Toy Blog. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them! πŸ™‚…

Ankylosaurus (Marx)

…letest, I’ll instead suggest checking out the thorough write-up on dinosaur-toys-collectors-guide.com, a fantastic resource for Marx dinosaurs in general.  Personally, I am content to own just one of each of the genera unless revised versions differ significantly from the original, like with the pot-bellied and slim T. rex. All the Marx dinosaur designs are lifted directly from the paleo-art of their time, art by the likes of Charles Knight, ZdenΔ›…

Trachodon (Edmontosaurus) (Marx)

…nd include changes to the posture. You can read more about them at dinosaur-toys-collectors-guide.com where both versions are directly compared. The one we’re looking at today is part of the Revised Mold Group. Scientists once took the “duck-billed” moniker for these dinosaurs quite seriously, to the point that these animals were once thought to have lived like ducks too. Edmontosaurus (or Trachodon, Anatotitan, etc.) were often depicted as semi-a…

Stegosaurus (National Geographic plush dinosaurs by Lelly)

…gh. It comes with a fact card attached, which you can keep or remove. Three-toed front feet. It is missing some! This plush Stegosaurus obviously has many inaccuracies. The head is too big and the front feet have three toes instead of five. There are some accuracies to note: the body is in the correct posture, it has the correct arrangement of dorsal plates and the four spikes/’thagomizer’ on the tail, and the front legs are smaller than the hind…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Timpo)

…T. rex toy we’ve ever reviewed. Its pose is what we would expect from a 50-year-old figure, upright and tail dragging. Some elements of the figure, including the raised eyes to a certain extent, are slightly reminiscent of some Charles Knight paleo-art, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the sculptor was influenced by that. The toy has few details to speak of, except for a few wrinkles here and there. There are no scales and the surface has a fluid, a…

Plesiosaur (Invicta)

…nds up fairly well for its age. The neck is raised up in an inaccurate swan-like pose as was common in reconstructions of that time, but it’s not raised dramatically so. The head is fashioned in the classic plesiosaur style with the skull more lizard-like than it is like the flatted skulls of actual plesiosaurs. The eyes are placed on the side of the head instead of angled towards the top as they should be and the model also lacks the gnarly teeth…

Baryonyx (Roarivores)(Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Mattel)

…s, which allow you to pose it in various ways, despite the neutral pose it comes win. Compared to the previous Baryonyx figures from Jurassic Park Series 2 and The Lost World, this is far, FAR superior. The size is even almost perfect with Kenner-sized figures! For those like me who love anything JP-related, this Baryonyx is a highly recommended toy. It’s a beautiful dinosaur action figure. So far, I am largely impressed by Mattel’s work. It does…

Iguanodon (Invicta)

…mewhat passable in that department. In terms of quality and detail work it compares well with the rest of the line, it’s an exceptionally well made model for the time. Muscles bulge along the tail and down the legs. The head is particularly well done and complete with nostrils, ear openings and eyes set under a furrowed brow that makes this Iguanodon look rather serious and perhaps even a bit wise and aged. The original release of the model is mon…

Irritator (Dino Hazard)

…me of the wrinkles are perhaps slightly overwrought, but it avoids the over-the-top texturing that a lot of brands aimed at adult collectors indulge in. My copy balances well on a level surface with the tail just a few millimeters clear of the ground. It only balances on its base, however, if it’s holding the lungfish that is included as an accessory. The hindlimbs are comparatively short, and the forelimbs long, and there is a ridge along the bac…

Triceratops (‘Great Dinosaurs’ Collection by Safari Ltd)

…ie Collection Triceratops is simply appalling, in my opinion). This figure feels a little like a stamping bull preparing to chase down a squealing matador. The right foot is scraping along the ground and the huge head is lowered and tilted to the side – making a show of things. The colour is basically bland and grey with a few brown details. There are no painted details on the claws, horns, spikes, tongue or beak (it would have been easy to do so…

Brachiosaurus (Playmobil)

…can be interchanged to decorate your cave as desired. Impressively large, elaborate, and fun to play with, the Playmobil Brachiosaurus set is an all-around winner. Available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Stegosaurus (Playmobil)

…ic play feature. Also in this set is a generic crocodilian coloured reddish-purple with a bright green underbelly, pale yellow eyes, and yellow and green osteoderms. It measures 10 cm long and features an articulated mandible. The much-employed lizard mould serves as a couple of grey and red baby crocodilians. Finally, there is a translucent yellow dragonfly with purple and pale yellow wings. The playset consists of a sandy nest surrounded by a di…
