Triceratops (World of History by Schleich)

…s figure has a list of anatomical problems, the first of which lies in the feet. Although the toes are separated, there are way too many claws, and they are too large as well. Furthermore, the front feet are not positioned correctly and appear to be flexed in such a way that would be painful in real life to the dinosaur. The skull of this figure is not bad, but if you examine the frill, you will notice indentations as if there were holes. Tricerat…

Triceratops (Playmobil)

…is guaranteed to appeal to dinosaur fans of all ages. Just keep in mind that it is one of the biggest sets, and therefore fairly pricey and space-consuming. Available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Triceratops (Baby)(Papo)

…The same goes for baby’s glossy finish. Overall, the baby Triceratops is a cute and fun addition to the Papo lineup. It’s also one of the more scientifically accurate dinosaurs the company has made this far. And it’s one of the least expensive. A cool toy for adults and children alike. Available from Amazon.com here….

Triceratops (Papo)

…Kinto Favorite) is that they’re covered in scales, with no wrinkly or cross-hatching cop-out, so the details hold up on close inspection. This Triceratops is no exception, with scales of varying sizes all over the body, including rows of larger oval scales that stand out over the back and flanks – another feature probably inspired by JP. Although retaining a characteristically stocky, herbivorous appearance, it’s not all podgy and shapeless by any…

Gallimimus (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Attack Pack by Mattel)

…pick it up singly or in a larger boxed collection of small toys. From nose-to-tail it measures about 7”, which hardly puts it in scale with the human action figures included in the line. Let’s not forget that at 20’ in length the real Gallimimus was only small in contrast to other dinosaurs and it was still the largest member of the ornithomimid family. The model balances well on two ridiculously oversized feet, and oversized feet seem to be the…

Pteranodon (The Lost World: Jurassic Park by Kenner)

…tebrae. The head is also smooth for the most part, but there are some oddly-shaped bumps on the sides of its bill. The hands have the right number of fingers, but the feet have only three oversized toes each. Moreover, the toes are in a configuration similar to those of an eagle’s. And finally, the fabric wings really aren’t wide enough for this mighty titan to attain flight. That’s right, this Pteranodon‘s wing membranes are made of fabric with t…

Ouranosaurus (Battat)

…ce of the sail-backed Ouranosaurus, it is rather rare in toy form. When it comes to iguanodontids, most companies tend to opt for the more generic and more familiar Iguanodon. Starlux, Schleich and CollectA have produced replicas of this fascinating species as well (review of the Schleich Ouranosaurus here), but the Battat figure is by far and away the superior figure. The head is incredibly accurate, it is sculpted long and low, with ridges above…

Quetzalcoatlus (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd)

…eak, like a fat slug trying to escape. This is far too large and adds an uncomfortable goofy look to an otherwise quite gracile figure. For such a delicate animal, a closed beak would probably have worked better. There is a short triangular crest at the back of the head, which doesn’t seem to match the more rectangular-shaped crest I’ve seen depicted in recent restorations of Quetzalcoatlus. There are two paint versions of this toy. The one I’m re…

Dimetrodon (Paleozoo)

…p://paleozoo.com.au/shop.php) for $122 AUD. Like other Paleozoo models, it comes in a nice box, well-packed, with an information card about the animal. I think that Paleozoo’s work on fishes and invertebrates is exemplary. This figure is also quite good, but has some minor proportion problems and doesn’t manage to look as natural as, for example, the Remigolepis and Mandageria. I would recommend it for fans of Paleozoic fauna with plenty of space…

Dimetrodon (Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs by Kenner)

…most entirely covered in scutes, similar to that of crocodilians or a spiny-tailed lizard. Looks a little out of place compared to the rest of the animal. The Dimetrodon‘s sail is made of soft, safe plastic. Its legs are articulated at the shoulders and hips and its tail rotates at the base—not that there’s any point in doing so. Pushing in on the left hind leg causes the upper jaw to open wide, revealing all the fearsome teeth and a pink tongue….

Dimetrodon (Papo)

…rlooked. Still, I certainly can vouch for this figure being well sculpted, painted and, well, looking very cool indeed. Very highly recommended. Available from Amazon.com here….

Monolophosaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…The skin is covered in different size scales. Amazingly, it stands on two feet, and the feet are not oversized! The arms and digits are pointed inward, which is correct. The colorization is basically red brown, with a cream color underside. The eyes and nasal openings are painted a glossy black. The inside of the mouth is pink and the teeth are white. The claws are all painted a dark grey color that looks very nice. Scientific accuracy: What did…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Killer Queens by Rebor)

…hose years ago. It’s finally been dethroned by the Killer Queens. The Papo one will always be near and dear to my heart, though. So in closing, if you’re a JP fan, these figures are a must-have. They retail for about $40 US each and I got mine from EverythingDinosaur.com. The quality is astounding for the price. There are other JP-style Rexes out there for a lot more which aren’t nearly as good. Rebor seems to have really found their niche making…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Animal Adventure by Takara Tomy)

…ase, with a dark brown wash over the back. The claws are your standard ‘toy-dinosaur-black’, and the teeth are your standard ‘toy-dinosaur-white’. The interior of the mouth is a dark maroon, while the tongue is a dark red. Overall, this toy is not going to win many accuracy awards, and as a play thing, it has less value than the Futabasaurus. However, this opinion is subjective, since I do not like to pose the tail in ways that are impossible for

Tyrannosaurus rex (Jurassic Park 3: Re-Ak A-Tak by Hasbro)

…s a child. This was the Tyrannosaurus rex from the Jurassic Park III ‘Re-ak-a-tak’ series and has very recently survived a major clear out of old toys from my household. Regular visitors to the dinotoyblog will know this toy is the exact same shape as the Arctic version reviewed by plesiosauria last year. Despite this, I’d like to think of this review as a sort-of extension, giving my thoughts on aspects of the ‘Re-ak-a-tak’ version which also app…

Tyrannosaurus rex (King Rex by Rebor)

…’s a bit of a JP monster, and yes, that little rocky prop thing is…odd. However, it’s a charming number with an exceptional degree of artistic polish for a mass-produced figure. For the same reason I’ll normally p-p-p-pick up a Papo (while avoiding equally inaccurate Schleich pap), I’ll recommend the Rebor. A bit pricey and anatomically iffy, but I’ll still hail to the King, baby. Available from Ebay.com here….

Tyrannosaurus rex (Running) (Papo)

…tend to fall short. The original Papo T. rex was very obviously a straight-up knock-off of the Jurassic Park creature – an excellent one as it happens – and that contributed immensely to its appeal. For their new T. rex, the sculptor has clearly used Jurassic Park as a starting point once again, resulting in some of the inaccuracies of the original being repeated. Most obviously, the arms are far, far too long. Here’s something I’d like all toy d…

Einiosaurus (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)

…iniosaurus. For at least one of these though its time in the limelight has come. Einiosaurus has finally gotten the toy treatment from the newly emerged Chinese company, PNSO. It is also slated for release later this month by Safari Ltd. Einiosaurus has long been one of my favorite horned dinosaurs and for me at least I’m glad the wait is finally over and it can join the ranks of my ceratopsian collection. Like most of the ceratopsians, Einiosauru…

Nasutoceratops (CollectA)

…eratops is a solid toy. It is compact, fun to play with, beautifully sculpted, and has attractive colours, especially on the frill. Recommended. Available from Amazon.com here…

Pachyrhinosaurus (‘Patchi’, Walking with Dinosaurs the Movie 3D, by Vivid Toy Group Ltd)

…st of the joints do move in all directions. These WWD3D action figures are comparable to Jurassic Park and Dinoriders in both size and action-figure style. The new toys differ from both, however, in having more flexible joints, whereas the others had simpler rotating joints. The brown background I used in the photos for the Gorgon review didn’t do justice to the colouration. In fact, the colours are quite vivid in these toys, and photos taken on a…
