Velociraptor “BLUE” (Jurassic World by Hasbro)

…Kids will figure it out, but it is frustrating. This plastic toy should hold up to some rough style play, but I would keep it inside, away from water and the sandbox. I will recommend “blue” as one of the better, if not best toy from the current Jurassic World line up. Currently available at Amazon.com….

Velociraptor (2015) (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd.)

…eanwhile, is attractive and plausible without being bland; a pleasing brown-on-white with red highlights. The paint application on Carnegie figures has (quite justly) come under fire in recent years, particularly as it seemed that, while lines like Wild Safari became increasingly accomplished, the paint on Carnegies just got sloppier. It’s actually quite decent here, although some areas, mostly the head, could have done with a little extra attenti…

Velociraptor “Cyclops” (Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs by Kenner)

…Velociraptors, its skull is too wide, its hind limbs are too thick, and it completely lacks feathers. On the positive side, it lacks a flaw common to all the other raptors: pronated wrists. Yes, Cyclops’ hands are actually positioned properly. Whether this was just happenstance or deliberate on the part of the sculptor is anyone’s guess, but it makes me happy. Cyclops’ shoulders and hips rotate and its head turns from side to side when you manipul…

Velociraptor (Safari Ltd)

…ough, I hate to admit it. Given the age of the model it would be unfair to compare it with the advances in toy production made in recent years. Though the details are a bit iffy it was still leagues better than most of what was coming out in 1993, even the Carnegie Collection has some wonky figures. The fact that this Velociraptor is so large helps with more minor details. Bony looking bumps and horns adorn the head, a totally speculative feature…

Velociraptor (Papo)

…d, the tibias seem a little too long, and there’s no feathers – all very un-dromeosaurid like features. The shape of the skull is largely too robust for that of a Velociraptor, it is more reminiscent of its distant relative Deinonychus. Velociraptor was believed to have been a diurnal animal, so the slit pupils don’t make much sense. The pose really doesn’t help this figure; it can stand on its own two feet but it’s still rearing up. I would have…

Jurassic Park “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” T-Rex vs. Velociraptors Diorama (by Sideshow Collectibles)

…media depictions of dinosaurs are rarely known for their adherence to well-established scientific research, but that scarcely mattered. Jurassic Park is often credited with reenergizing the field and funding of paleontological studies around the world. To no one’s great surprise, Sideshow Collectibles – which has a reputation for closely collaborating with popular film studios – gained considerable attention after announcing the acquisition of on…

Albertosaurus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…me, this is one of Geoworld’s most ambitious figures to date, simply because they put feathers on what is basically a Tyrannosaurus rex-like animal. Available on Amazon.com here….

Allosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…ed upon by adding an articulated jaw to make it more play friendly, and to compete directly with the Papo release. This model is not very good. The head is too boxy and the wrists are pronated. The feet are too big and I think the legs could be a little thinner. If the legs were not made the way they are, the model likely could not stand on its own two feet, but that doesn’t excuse the boxy head. It resembles the head of the Allosaurus from the or…

Spinosaurus (Papo)

…ticeably thick (There was probably NOT a “hump” like a camel though!). The feet seem a little large; but again, no spinosaurid limbs are known, so that is really personal taste. The body is very robust; perhaps too much– But it still looks nice. The detailing is exquisite. It also stands well, but since the plastic is relatively soft, when it becomes warm the legs can bend and the whole thing can fall flat on it’s face, and due to the delicate pai…

Neovenator (Deluxe by CollectA)

…emains, CollectA has done a masterful job of basing this toy on the most up-to-date reconstructions. The head is similar to that of Allosaurus, but with a more parrot-like snout. The teeth are small but sharp, the arms are large and muscular, and the legs are built for speed. This is a predator that could chase down a victim, grip it firmly using the front claws, and then bite and cut through flesh. 2012 was something of a turning point for the qu…

Doedicurus (Prehistoric Life Collection by Safari Ltd)

…from the fossil record. If you like expanding the genera in your collection or are a mammal enthusiast, this is for you. Available from Amazon.com here. Join the dino-discussions at the Dinosaur Toy Forum!…

Carcharodontosaurus (Deluxe Prehistoric Collection by CollectA)

…s continue to fail, in recreating a theropod that can stand on its own two feet. Normal size feet at that, not the large feet that Safari has recently adopted. In order for the model to stand upright though some adjustments had to be made, most notably in the hips. This dinosaur has a lot of junk in the trunk. Whatever works I say, I still prefer it over the Carnegie tripods. Proportionally the model appears accurate, wide hips aside. There is lit…

Miragaia (CollectA)

…osaurs. Good sculpting, decent colours, impressive armament, and, aside from the rostrum, accurate within reason. Overall, strongly recommended. Available from Amazon.com here….

Tanystropheus (Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs by Kenner)

…d small, interlocking teeth, this toy boasts four huge front fangs. These, combined with the mask-like patches over the eyes, give the Tanystropheus a distinctly sinister appearance. The legs rotate at the shoulders and thighs, but due to the position each limb is sculpted in, their posability is severely limited. Although the limbs and body are made of hard plastic, the head, neck, and tail are rubberized plastic. Why is this so? Because a bendab…

Apatosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…vantage of its predecessors in the Replicasaurus series, but it still gives the feel of a massive creature even at this scale. If you want one, you can find it at most Wal-Mart stores, and anywhere that sells Schleich dinosaur toys. Available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Apatosaurus (Papo)

…of its mouth is dull pink. The claws are unpainted, disappointingly. Detail-wise, Papo once again knocks it out of the park. The many wrinkles on the skin of this growing giant give it a thick, leathery appearance. The tiny, peg-like teeth lining the front of the mouth are finely sculpted. The barely visible nostrils have been placed on top of the head, which is not in keeping with recent reconstructions. The neck is lined with rows of thick bumps…

Apatosaurus (2008, Replica-saurus by Schleich)

…lephant. Schleich Apatosaurus will always be a controversial figure. Either one loves it or one does not. There is no shrugging “I don´t care” or “Well, quite okay” about this one. I personally love it and recommend it to every sauropod freak out there who has enough space on his shelves and money left to adopt it. You can get it at any virtual or real toy store. Available from Amazon.com (here)…

Giganotosaurus (2019 repaint by Schleich)

…scales like these on theropod feet are now considered inaccurate, and the feet should be smooth-looking like that of a ostrich (see the new Wild Safari Carnotaurus, if you want a figure that gets it right). Since I do not own the original colour version, I guess I’m left with no choice but to describe the colours of this version alone. The base color of the model is light brown, and the back has a striped pattern painted in black, and outlined wi…

Giganotosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…omes to carnivorous dinosaurs that are larger than Tyrannosaurus rex, most companies go for the ever-popular Spinosaurus nowadays. When Safari released a Giganotosaurus for the Carnegie Collection in 2008, other companies took notice and started dishing out their own chosen carcharodontosaurid species. In 2010, Schleich released their first version of Giganotosaurus to compete models with Safari and other companies. The large and expensive size of…

Sauropelta (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…rms of appearance, accuracy, detail, and play value, the Wild Safari Sauropelta simply shines. This is one of the best ankylosaur toys I’ve ever come across. Get it if you can! Available from Amazon.com here….
