Stegosaurus has always remained one of my favorite dinosaurs and an old time favorite after the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Velociraptor among others. The figure that I will be reviewing today is the final one from the first polybag of dinosaurs from Wild Republic, all dating back from the year 2004. And I must say that I am quite impressed with them. The first set from Wild Republic, which contains this Stegosaurus, a Tyrannosaurus rex, a Pteranodon, and a Baryonyx, is special to me because it is how I started my dinosaur collection.

This figure measures 16 cm in length and 8 cm in height at the tallest dorsal plate. Stamped on its underside is ‘Stegosaurus 2004 K&M China 8.’ The head is turned to the left, maybe feeding or watching out for predators. Accuracies include the head being quite tiny in comparison to the body, the front legs shorter than the hind ones, and the arrangement of the plates and spikes. Inaccuracies include the lack of the throat armor and four digits on each front foot. On the hind feet, there are three digits, which is correct. Other tiny mistakes are that it lacks visible ear holes and a cloaca. It has the ovipositor membrane though.

This figure is made of durable plastic and the plates and spikes are not sharp, making it perfect for kids to play with. The colour scheme for this figure is caramel brown for the upper part of the body, pale blue for the underside, red plates and tail spikes, and ivory white beak and claws. The eyes are tiny and are black, with tiny white dots for a lifelike reflection. There is a slight paint smudge on the head of my figure, but it is forgivable given its age.

Details include reptilian scales on the body, broad lines on the dorsal plates, some wrinkles, and muscle definition under the body and around the legs and ribs. This figure is good for its time, but it could be better with a brighter paint job. The figure is posed in a wary stance, with the left front leg slightly reared up and the tail high up in the air. For sure, no predatory dinosaur would approach it!

Overall, I cannot expect better from these figures for their time. They are reasonably accurate and easily available online at various stores selling dinosaur-related products as well as Amazon or eBay. They are available individually or together.

I am proud that I have successfully reviewed the first set and I hope that someone reviews the figures from the second set. Many thanks for your attention and check out my whole stegosaur herd!
