“Hear ye, hear ye, fellow dinosaur lovers! Queen Dr. Bella Bricking is here, along with her faithful companion, Beth Buildit, against whom all charges were dropped!”
“Grrrrrr.”
“Now, now, Beth, let’s let bygones be bygones. I paid your bail, after all. And as you can see by my regally coifed hair and golden crown, we’re about to review a Tyrannosaurus rex! And not just any T. rex, but the queen of the Jurassic Park franchise herself, Rexy!”
“Whoa! That’s one big LEGO set, Doc!”
“Yes indeed, Beth! Let’s dig in!”
“Here we go again.”
“As you can see, this is the exact same T. rex figure that LEGO has been using since the 2012 DINO series. It is also the third incarnation of Rexy, who previously appeared in a Jurassic World set in 2015 and in a Lego Juniors set for the 2018 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom series.”
“Third time’s definitely a charm here, Doc. Rexy’s main colours are sand and light brown with dark brown stripes, beige spots, white teeth, blacks claws, and black surrounding her yellow eyes. Not only do all these colours work great together, but the stripe, spot, and scale patterns on Rexy’s head and body are way more elaborate than on any previous version! Too bad she never looked this spiffy in the actual films!”
“Too true, all too true, my dear Beth! Indeed, one could argue that this version of Rexy alone makes this set worth getting. But she’s not the only unique character in the mix. Here we have the plucky paleo-veterinarian Zia Rodriguez, impressively detailed down to her red shoes and the stylized dinosaur on her shirt. Like many minifigures, she features a double-sided head: one with a calm facial expression, the other with a perturbed one. She is accompanied by a baby Velociraptor identical to the one we reviewed previously. Apparently Blue’s coloration was not unique to her.”
“And here are two more of those nameless goons who are pretty much the JW equivalent of stormtroopers, ‘cept dressed in blue instead of white. They’re armed with a stud launcher and a shock prod, but I’m sure most folk who get this set will enjoy serving them up to Rexy for her lunch. You’ll get yours, you stinking creeps! Just wait!”
“Compose yourself, my dear Beth! It is now time for us to build the set!”
“Hey Doc, remember the early days when we only reviewed dinosaur figures and left it at that?”
“I certainly do, Beth. In fact, I’ve been pondering lately about whether it would be a worthwhile venture to go back and expand those reviews. What say you?”
“Er, um, how about that weather, Doc? Winter’s a-comin’!”
“Here is a medical terminal intended to represent the device Zia uses to carry out a crucial blood transfusion in the film. The monitor displays a strand of DNA, presumably belonging to either Blue or Rexy. The tubes can be attached to the studs on the backs of most LEGO dinosaur figures, allowing for quite a bit of imaginative play!”
“Huh. That Zia is almost as crazy as we are!”
“Here is a large tractor unit that rolls wonderfully on all manner of surfaces, up to and including thick carpet. Like most LEGO road vehicles, this one accommodates only a single minifigure inside the cab.”
“Hmmm. Not as cushy as the off roader we commandeered awhile back, but still looks like it’d be fun to take a spin in!”
“And here is an enormous holding cage mounted atop a trailer. The trailer features fold-down landing gear and connects nicely to the tractor unit. The sides of the cage fold down to allow you place Rexy on the bed. Once the sides are folded back up again, you can raise the black tabs to lock them in place, thus securing Rexy inside. One can also substitute either the Carnotaurus or the Indominus Rex. The heavy duty appearance of the cage makes me worry that even the most powerful theropod would be unable to free itself.”
“Somehow, Doc, I have a feeling that life will find a way!”
“Overall, this is one very fine LEGO set indeed! The T. rex figure has never looked nicer, the build is a satisfying challenge, and the resulting transport vehicle and blood transfusion centre provide excellent play value for fans of all ages. This set is a Toys R Us exclusive in Canada, retailing for $89.99, but is also readily available at the LEGO website as well as LEGO store locations worldwide!”
“Whew! That was our biggest review ever, Doc!”
“Aha, do not be so hasty, my dear Beth! The year is not out yet!”
“What are you going on about now, Doc?”
“Tut tut, mustn’t spoil the surprise, Beth! You and our fellow dinosaur lovers will just have to wait and see! Ta ta for now!”
