It has been a long wait, but a worthwhile one. The Mountains Environment Accessory Pack is just one of many from the 1/6th scale Beasts of the Mesozoic: Raptor Series line, created by David Silva. It offers the first of its kind: scientifically accurate, highly articulated, and highly detailed dinosaur action figures. I first backed the Kickstarter for this project back in May of 2016, and watched how the line evolved from just three action figures to sixteen plus, along with the addition of the nestling and accessory packs, and here we are now.

So, let’s take a look at what this Mountains Environment Accessory Pack contains. For starters everything is included in beautifully done packaging with artwork done by Jonathan Kuo. The juvenile Troodon included is perhaps the main draw of this set, besides the unique diorama base. It features jaw, neck, arm, and leg articulation, and also has a bendy wire tail. Its tail was a separate piece that needed to be attached. It is 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm) long, and 2 1/2 inches (6 cm) tall, and its colors are based off of the snowy owl.

During production of this figure most of the remains referred to Troodon were split into separate genera, Stenonychosaurus and Latenivenatrix. As a result, the only remains associated with the name Troodon are some undiagnostic teeth, which make Troodon a dubious and invalid dinosaur name. This figure, then, seems to share the bulk of its proportions with Stenonychosaurus. This juvenile Troodon figure is covered in feathers from the head to the tail to the feet. The arms display wing feathers, with the primaries attached to the second digit. The head also has lips covering its teeth.

For the diorama base, there is an Araucaria tree, a small fern, and a small rock. At a scale suitable for the larger raptors in this line (but not included in this set) is a nest of eggs with hatchling, and some other additions like a small base, posing rods, and pegs. The hatchling is mostly grey with a bit of pink around the mouth, and its colors correspond to the grey nestling pack in this line. Most of the figures are made of plastic, but the tree branches are a soft rubbery material like the juvenile Troodon‘s tail.

The tree is the only thing not in scale with the other figures from this line, but even so, it is quite tall at 10 1/2 inches (26.6 cm), and towers over the little juvenile Troodon. Nearly everything included can be mixed and matched with the other accessory packs and action figures from this line.

The bases feature various colors that correspond to the larger Dromaeosaurus figures’ bases in the line, with green moss, grey rocks, and white snow. The large base is about 6 by 4 inches (15 by 10 cm). The tree and fern are mostly green with a bit of white painted on to represent snow. The tree also comes in three pieces that need to be assembled first. The eggs in the nest are primarily an off-white color with grey speckles on them, and the nest is about 2 by 2 1/2 inches (5 by 6 cm).

This set can be purchased on Backerkit, Big Bad Toy Store, Dan’s Dinosaurs, and Everything Dinosaur [I couldn’t find it there – Ed.], and will soon be on the Creative Beast Studio website.

  • I believe that Everything Dinosaur is expecting their Beasts of the Mesozoic stock to arrive in February. Nice review!

    • Yeah I jumped the gun there, thinking they had them up for pre-order, after I saw the announcement. I probably should have double checked first, lol.
