This is definitely a good year for the woolly rhinoceros Coelodonta. First there was the reveal of the Haolonggood toy last month. And now here’s the painted prototype for the upcoming 1/18 scale action figure by Creative Beast Studio.

What a beauty indeed!

I’ll be honest, I initially planned to skip this figure back when it was originally announced in 2020 due to the animal in question’s fragmentary nature currently consisting of hind limb material for the most part. That’s despite the beautiful prototype it got later on, which was certainly tempting.

Still more prototypes to make your bank account shudder. The unmistakable Ceratosaurus stands ready to join the rest of the Beasts of the Mesozoic theropods.

What a fabulous colour scheme that is!

And here is Creative Beast’s very first ankylosaur, the recently described Spicomellus.

The upcoming 1/18 scale Cyberzoic Yutyrannus looks very different from the Beasts of the Mesozoic version thanks to its raven-inspired colour scheme.

The black and blue really make it seem like a cold, sinister, pitiless killer.

And the very first non-mammalian critter in Beasts of the Cenozoic will be the giant terror bird Kelenken!

Review: Styracosaurus (‘Fan’s Choice’ Old Buck (bloody), Beasts of the Mesozoic by Creative Beast Studio)

Old Buck figure slightly facing the camera, head lowered, jaw closed with body in view on the left side. An attempt at recreating the pose at the 2:54 mark in the short film.

Right off the bat I want to give my sincerest thanks (again) to David James Armsby, who sent me this figure and for free, after a lovely conversation on the forum here. Not only that but with a wonderful little sketch as well.

Slated for release this May, the 1/18 Cyberzoic Carnotaurus is an agile, graceful, and fearsome predator!

Just look at all that articulation!

And slated for release further in the future is the super awesome 1/12 scale dire wolf!

This vicious dog comes with three interchangeable heads.

Now the ambush! Ademir explodes from his hiding spot in the tall grass and flings himself upon his unsuspecting quarry, which bellows in fright and pain as his claws easily puncture its skin and dig deep into its flesh.

Now the coup de grace!

Review: Woolly mammoth/Mammuthus primigenius (1/18 scale adults and calves, by Creative Beast Studio)

Mammoths outside in the early morning, in fresh snow, with snow covered trees behind, and a cloudy light blue sky. The snowy mammoth is on the left facing the right, using the female tusks with trunk raised, and the snowy calf is beside it, front of the legs. The standard mammoth is on the right, facing left, with trunk slightly lowered, using the male tusks, with some snow sprinkled on its back. The standard calf is in front of this one's legs, also facing the left. Mouths open on all figures, except the snowy calf.

This is not going to be just one review of sorts. Oh no, this is going to be a mammoth review… of mammoths. Both of the 1/18 scale adults and calves, in the standard and snowy colorations. The original plan was to tackle the snowy ones which are in a set together (and was exclusive to those that backed the original campaign), but having the standard ones on hand too, and since the only thing different is the packaging, collector cards, and paintwork, no harm in doing all together.

Review: Dilong (Beasts of the Mesozoic by Creative Beast Studio)

Review and photographs by Frey, edited by Suspsy.

Released in 2023 as part of the now‑concluded Tyrannosaur Series, the Creative Beast Studio Dilong paradoxus stands out as the only 1/6‑scale figure in the entire line. Known from Early Cretaceous deposits in eastern China, Dilong represents the earliest definitive evidence of feathers in tyrannosaurs, making its inclusion in the series both scientifically meaningful and historically appropriate.

Cameron II isn’t the only articulated king tyrant to be revealed recently. Creative Beast announced earlier this week that they will eventually be releasing a new version of their 1/18 scale Tyrannosaurus rex.

The sculpt will be the exact same, but the toy will have improved articulation, enabling it to be put in a wider variety of poses.

The final 1/18 scale painted sample of Andrewsarchus for the Beasts of the Cenozoic line is a menacing monster indeed.

The same goes for the final painted sample of the Beasts of the Mesozoic 1/18 scale Stegosaurus. This is not a herbivore to be crossed.

Review: Qianzhousaurus (Beasts of the Mesozoic by Creative Beast Studio)

Despite being described back in 2014 (Lü et al), I’ve only recently become enamored with Qianzhousaurus, informally known as the “Pinocchio rex”. While featuring in the likes of Prehistoric Planet, and Jurassic World Evolution 2, it was the Beasts of the Mesozoic figure that cemented my interest in it, thanks to the vivid coloration it sported.
