New stylised raptor figure from Schleich - update.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been lobbying over this figure for some time.  We are very grateful for all the comments and feedback received, especially from fellow forum members.  We enclose a picture of the new Velociraptor figure, it has certainly changed quite a bit from the pre-Christmas concept images that were posted.

The model measures 18cm in length and stands 12cm high.  The posture has been changed and the skull re-sculpted to permit it to have an open mouth (articulated jaw) and a more classical "Velociraptorinae" look.  The tail has been lengthened and made much straighter, again in response to feedback and comments received.  The oversized feet and the tri-dactyl stance are in response to the new body shape and to help stability.  There is not much Schleich can do about this, a two-toed stance causes too many stability issues.  Arms will be articulated  and the model will go into production in a few weeks and we expect stocks at Everything Dinosaur in May.  Feather/quills added to the humerus as well as ulna.  The model we saw was quite well painted, the colouration chosen to match the smaller Velociraptor figure that is in the company's "dinosaurs" model range.  Schleich are keen to stress that this replica is aimed very much at the younger end of the toy market but working within technical constraints as well as attempting to appeal to the 3 plus age range, they have tried to accommodate certain suggestions which they are very grateful to have received.

The new Schleich T. rex model is slightly larger than the 2012 version.  It too will have an articulated jaw, but it is an all together bigger model.  The T. rex measures 27cm long and the head is around 15cm high.  The feet have been oversized once again, but this is to accommodate a heavier, bigger replica.

Aimed very much at younger dinosaur fans, the model will have lighter colouration and it will be available in May (Everything Dinosaur stocks in May).  We thought that this replica would replace the 2012 model, but we understand this was never Schleich's intention.  The models will both be in the "World of History" dinosaur range.

An update on the new Pentaceratops dinosaur model from Schleich.  Everything Dinosaur's concerns over the number of front digits and toes on the hind limbs has been sorted.  The prototype we saw had five fingers and four toes.  Very well painted figure, but Schleich staff still referring to it as the "new Triceratops figure" so there might be some mislabelling in non-specialist retailers.  This is our favourite of the new Schleich releases, again available in May and production due to start shortly.

The model will saw was very well painted, and it certainly is a very vivid red.

The new Pentaceratops model from Schleich measures 18cm long and it is around 12cm in height.  Oops, forgot to post that information up earlier.

A close up of the new Schleich Therizinosaurus replica.  This model measures 20cm tall and it has an overall length of 22cm.  Quite well painted and this replica, once again aimed at younger dinosaur fans will feature articulated arms.

The skin has been textured to give the impression of proto-features, our pic shows the tail fan better than the official Schleich image that was released before Christmas.  We have pointed out that the claws are quite sharp, although aimed at 3 plus, the claws do look and feel a bit lethal.  Mind you, that's what we suppose the claws were anyway.

Wow, not a flattering angle. It looks much worse than the prototype image. That's too bad, this was the one Schleich figure I had hopes for.

SpartanSquat

Therizinosaurus looks big! I actually prefferd the new velociraptor instead the old model.
Watching the 2 rexes, i thik the new one i s a female.

Generally speaking, I like the new figures of Schleich, but I´ll say my last opinion when I have these figures in my hands  ^-^.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

They really must have had the fellows who did Chap Mei's dinos create these, though CM's Therizino is more accurate even.

You know thinking on it.." being aimed at kids " is not an excuse for poor paint apps and little to no accuracy. If anything kids should be given the most accurate figures so they can be more educated..even when they are playing and using their imaginations.

Yep true.

Pass, pass, maybe and pass. For now I'll stick to buying Schleich figures on flea markets only, except for very those few older models that deserve greater attention.

Takama

Overall. I am Disappointed that they did not Call the New Raptor Something Else.  I hate it when a Company has two Vastly different models, and call them the same species.

I actually like the new T.Rex more then the original, Longer tail, and a better pose.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I have trouble liking a few of these because they are basically Papo knockoffs..worse quality, but same price or more. I mean if these were around 5-8.00 I might get em' just to repaint and mess with.

Gwangi

The Pentaceratops is still the only model that interests me but TQ is right, not a good angle there. The digits are what is most off putting about that model, otherwise I quite like it. Nice to see them take into account some of the criticisms regarding the Velociraptor but it's still not enough to make me want it...I do suppose the kids will though.

"you know you have a lot of prehistoric figures if you have at least twenty items per page of the prehistoric/dinosaur section on ebay." - anon.

Megalosaurus

I was planning on get the Penta &Theri, but now I prefer to wait until someone shows real pictures from diferent angles.
Sobreviviendo a la extinción!!!

Team members got the chance to dismantle one of the show cases at a recent trade fair, so we could make a brief (55 second) which shows the four new Schleich models for 2014 together.  Video is not brilliant, but we were fortunate enough to get permission to do this, hopefully, it will give readers a little more information about these new figures.

Short video on Everything Dinosaur's Youtube channel: Brief introduction to new Schleich 2014 dinosaur models

Hope this helps.

That Therizinosaurus looks angry!

Wouldn't you be if you went in for a makeover and came out looking like a drowned rat with oversized claws ?  lol

I can't believe the staff didn't know what they had made.. I know we figured they didn't care..but that pretty much proves it.
