They look better to me than the finished product with the paint.  They look awesome.

I agree, but that's almost always the case isn't it. Makes me wish I was skilled with a paint brush. Or had the sums to hire people to paint them for me.

Very True.

Looking at it them unpainted reminds of black and white films, and how they can make the mood and peoples expressions just pop.

Amazing. Will want to see some custom paint jobs on these models. :)

Thanks for posting the originals! Phenomenal.

I also agree.  Doug has some wonderful skills that is apparently dulled during mass production.  He needs to have his own "masterpiece edition" line.

Concavenator

Thanks for the pics,Doug! I really like them.

Arul

Awesome :) imho the original version have a better sculpt on the teeth..

Thank you for sharing the originals with us Mr. Watson! I knew I wanted to get at least one or two of these sculpts, but those photos really make them shine.  :)

Somehow, I'm just now getting around to seeing those originals - thanks for sharing, Doug! The teeth and claws do seem to lose a bit of sharpness and definition in the mass-production process. D'you know the extent to which that's done intentionally for safety reasons? Or perhaps it's all a result of the process?

It is 100% a safety issue. You have to remember Safari Ltd's figures are rate for ages 3+ so the factory has to do a penetration test on any sharp points and beef them up if they don't pass. Do I like it, no? But I understand it.

If my kids (ages 3, 20 months, and 7 months) ever dare beat each other with a toy, that toy (and the offender) immediately goes in time-out.  It's a shame that people find it necessary to practically bubblewrap everything. But ah well, such is life  :P

The toys are still beautiful figures   :)

Hmm bubblewrap huh? ;)

My parents went one step further...and hit us harder with their hands than we did to each other with the toys :P And of course my grandpa did beat up my dad up with a leather belt when he did wrong. Those were harsh days...

I see! Well, that does make sense, regrettable though it may be. The plus side, is, of course, that the figures are distributed everywhere and are extremely affordable :) I wonder if some careful work with a craft knife could return some of those points to their original sharpness?

We need to toughen our kids more. I came from family of six kids and it was survival of the fittest. No baby seats, no seat belts, no bike helmets plus my brother and I used to have bee bee gun fights in the basement. No shooting above the waist but I got a few dents in my kneecaps  :D I know I'm a dinosaur and as it turns out I smothered my daughter with fatherly over protection. I still want to protect her and she is 24!

Yep, it's only plastic after all.

Thanks to Brett tipping me off I was able to get my latest Holy Grail, the Kaiyodo Velociraptor. Paid way too much thanks to the eBay Global Shipping Program, but at least I finally scratched an itch that has been bugging me for years. I just noticed that the packaging says "Velociraptol"  :o
I had this guy in my hand at Disney's Dinoland way back when they came out and I hummed and hawed about paying the $5 and change and instead I bought a book on Sue. Been kicking myself ever since. Finally I have it. For some reason I have always liked the look of it.
