This one is for you Libraraptor, I know how much you appreciate them ^-^

Okay, so this time I wanted to spotlight some of the vintage figures in my collection, the oldies but goodies ;D
Today, we are so spoiled with what's available that we tend to forget that there was a time not so long ago when such items did not exist, at least in reality and not imagination.
With these pioneering figures, I always find delight and appreciation for how far we have come and also how much has changed.
While today we are now nitpicking "wrong colors, missing one feather here and there, missing a tooth, etc.", it would be good to take a break from this often exhausting discussion and take a look back to a more simpler time...
So, here they are, some of the oldies treasures of mine :))

Marx Figures - This is truly one of the pioneers in dinosaur and prehistoric figures. First produced in 1955 and had a good run all the way to the 60's.The line have reached a cult following, which is great. :))
I really love the simple design and monochrome colors of the figures.
This lines history is long and very fascinating, too long to even cover a fraction of it. The figures comes in different colors as well. Also some figures have larger version, while others had slight modification made.
Today, the figures are s till easy to find, and they vary in price. Perhaps the most hard to find are the play set and the even rarer Flintstone large figure set.
Missing from the photo are the Kronosaur and mammoth, I have them both but somehow misplaced them ( I used them as a cake topper once!)
[]
The Caveman set are actually close to 1:40 scale, about the same size as the little guy from CollectA, so they can be a great substitute.
[]

MPC - Very much inspired by the Marx set, they were produced 1964 - 1970's ( with many knock off).
I don't have most of the figures. The most notable thing about the set is the variety of prehistoric mammals, some of them have made their first appearance in this line.
[]

Tootsie - Really fun hollow figures. Despite their outrageous designs, I really love this set. I don't have all of them, when I first discovered the set, I focused on the mammals.
[]

Of course there are plenty more old school figures in addition to these guys.
Ajax, Timmee Toys, Nabisco, Timpo, Linde, Starlux, etc. That all deserves their own time on the spot light. When I find them, I will try  to do a part two.
So what makes these guys so special, well, they are cool and really a nice reminder of how far we have come. If I ever feel overwhelmed or jaded by some of todays selection, I always look back to these guys :D
Well, I hope you guys enjoyed this short trip back to a simpler time.
Till the next installment, cheers! :)

Shonisaurus

Sincerely the moschops, camarasaurus, megatherium and cavemen are very well made for the time in which these figures belonged. Beautiful figures, sincerely in my case the old figures have more value, not because of their inferior quality in a abyssal way to the current figures, but from the sentimental point of view, I was more delighted to get these figures as little and as little as possible. I found at that time in relation to the toy market of prehistoric animals sincerely I reported much more illusion than now perhaps because I was very young (in this case none of these figures of the brands reviewed by Boki I could never locate in my early life and it's more I had no idea that they existed back then). I congratulate you Bokisaurus for publishing all this cast of figures.

Killekor

Thanks for the photos Bokisaurus! Some of the figures look really nice, that good that if I find some one day I'll buy them.
But that Tootsie "Stegosaurus" is atrocious! It looks almost an hybrid with a Dimorphodon and a Dimetrodon!
Also, I didn't know the existence of a Toy of this mammal (of which I don't remember the name):

The one I'm talking about is the pink one, which is meh, so let's hope to see CollectA or Eofauna doing one!

Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Libraraptor

Thank you so much Boki for the monochrome figures  post. Made my day!

BlueKrono

Your Marx Brontosaurus looks lighter than the rest. Is it white or just a really light grey?
We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free." - King Kong, 2005

Bokisaurus

Thanks everyone!
@ Libraraptor - glad you like it ;D
@ Killekor - :)) that one is supposed to be a Brontops of I am not mistaken. CollectA did make a beautiful one a few years back.
@ BlueKrono -  Marx came up with so many different colors, but the original I think was the silver/gray ones. The Bronto is a really light gray color :)

Thanks for the answer and for the information! I didn't know the existence of a CollectA one, which looks really great!

Lanthanotus

Nice collection, I'd like to add some more Marx' to my collection aswell, but the shipping from US kills every bargain one could make....however, what about some reviews about those goldies, Bokisaurus? They are somewhat of a foundation for every modern toy "dinosaur" after all, but so underrepresented on our blog...

SBell

I'm so late to this party but...

I'm pretty sure I need that Favorite Mosasaurus. But I will wait until they bring out a couple new Ancient Fishes to make the postage worthwhile (maybe I'll grab a Spinosaurus too!)

And, I have a couple of those Timpos...so weird. So hollow. Just the Bison and Brontothere. It's hard to imagine that there's only one ancient bison figure, and it's this weird Art Deco style one!

KeU

Lil late.
Really liking the Favorite Baryonyx and Neovenator.
They look good together, not to mention the details and paint apps.

I used to have several Chinasaur copies of the Marx Brontosaurus. I wonder where they are now....

Pachyrhinosaurus

Really nice assortment of Marx figures. I'm starting to get into collecting different variants, myself.

One thing that caught my attention was your brown allosaurus-- it looks a bit more gracile and well-defined compared to the original figure. I think it's MPC actually.

Uncle Rex

Thanks for showing the "oldies", which I still love. I got a Marx play set in the late '50s and still have most of the figures. My set contained the "pot belly" Rex rather than the more graceful Rex in your collection. The poor Allosaurus was so boring compared to the Rex. The figures weren't painted so were great for play - no worries about scraping off the paint and they were so solid that they didn't break, even when run over by electric trains! Those MPC mammals are really neat - haven't seen any of them before. Please keep your photos coming.

Bokisaurus

Thanks everyone! These days its taking longer to catch up with posting some of my old collections ( blame it on PNSO! ;D)

@ Uncle Rex - Glad you enjoyed them, I have more to show once I round them all up! They definitely deserved to be spotlighted!

@ Pachyrhinosaur - They are fun and full of history, very much worth adding to ones collection. That allo is indeed a Marx figure, they have re-sculpted some figures so some looks very different from the original ones, and MPC copied a lot of their style.
@ Lanthanotus - I do have some oldies and goodies I want to review and will do so, I just need to catch up with my backlog of review figures ;D
I agree, some of these oldies are true gems and really deserves a review on the blog. So keep an eye out, you just may see some pop up one of these days :))

Bokisaurus

Well well, another deluge of PNSO figures have arrived! Wow, this year it seems like they have one new figure each month! How are we supposed to keep up? ;D But I rather have that than nothing, at this point, I am addicted to PNSO ;D

So I finally got all of the standard figures, those non-museum line ones, all 5 of them. They are beautiful figures and really makes me excited to see what would be next to come out. ;D lets start with the pair that arrived together.
Spinops and Eurhinosaur - They arrived together, one week earlier than the Stego that I ordered much earlier. I was horrified when I saw the package! One side was badly crushed during shipment!
I was dreading opening the box and it was the one with the Spinops, too!
luckily, the figure is protected by a plastic blister box that provided a second layer of protection, there was a bit of warping on the horns since that was where the crushed part was, but it was all good!
i really like the figure and I will save what I have to say on my review of it for the blog.
[]

Eurhinosaur - This is one odd ichthyosaur ! Beautiful figure and very slender. The purple color disappeared from the final mass produced version, but other than that, its very nice.
I'm not sure what paint PNSO use, but those eyes are so life-like and very much like a fish.
Due to the softer plastic material used, understandable for SAFETY reason since it has so many pointed parts, those delicate teeth on the bill did not translate well. They are there and you can feel them, just not as pronounced. Too bad, but not a big deal.
[]

Stegosaurus - A much smaller figure, but lots of nice details. I love this one. Again, the difference in material ( Softer) really obscured some of the finer details on the figure.
[]
As you can see, its almost the same size as the Chungkingosaurus from the diorama set and they are the same material.
[]

In addition to the trio, I also got a trio of the new extant animals to add to the mix. They are at the same level of quality as the mini-dinosaurs and packaged the same in blister packs.
[]

And the fun part, Comparison photos ;D
[]

This new series is awesome and exciting and really compete with the other brands like Safari, CollectA, Papo, etc...
Well, thanks for looking and cheers!
[]

Concavenator

Fantastic figures you got there, B @Bokisaurus ! This new range from PNSO really is fantastic.

May I ask you, out of the 5 existing figures from this range ( Meg, Anky, Stego, Eurhino and Spinops ), which one is your favorite?

I seriously think that the Ankylosaurus is one of the best dinosaur figures of all time. The accuracy, the crisp detail, the natural and beautiful coloration, the unique pose...It's something else, isn't it?

Looking forward to your Spinops review. Will you be reviewing the Eurhinosaurus too?

Andanna

Very nice acquisitions.  I wish there was some continuity in size.  That would clearly help me.

Shonisaurus

I congratulate you on your new PNSO stegosaurus acquisitions if it were as bulky and long as the PNSO ankylosaurus would surely buy such a figure. As always, Boki make artistic photographs of remarkable quality.

Killekor

Thanks for the photos, Bokisaurus!
I really like all the new figures that PNSO is making, especially the Eurhinosaurus which is probably the best Ichtyosaur figure ever! Congratulations for owning them
I can't wait to see your reviews of them!
