Dino riders is a much cherished series by many, who eagerly looked to get all the figures of the line. The first two lines are large, full of various dinosaurs, while the latter two lines are smaller and often rarer than the first two. The last line featured ice age mammals, four recognisable animals from the Pleistocene (and a bit before). Here is Megatherium, or the Giant Ground Sloth as it was advertised. Lets take a look!
Like a lot of the Tyco figures, this is a larger figure, measuring 7″ from head to tail (7.8″ with head erect), making it big, but maybe not as large as it could be alongside some of the dinosaurs. The colour scheme is quite good, darker browns working brilliantly, with the dark stripes popping nicely (though not all have these underbelly stripes, possibly the Smithsonian version). It features five points of articulation, with each arm, leg and head having movement. It’s decent for the era, and allows for both quadrupedal and bipedal stances.
Now, onto accuracy! Honestly, this isn’t terrible, with most issues coming from cheaper merging of parts, like the claws and teeth. The neck is also a little off, being too low compared to the shoulders, and the tail a bit stubby. Otherwise, pretty good, with the head and body looking great, just feeling a little less furry than it should.
Honestly, there is significant charm to this figure, with it’s beautiful eyes and great sculpting. The problem comes from finding this little beauty, as the latter two lines tend to be very hard to find, and expensive when you do. This tends to be the less expensive of these figures, and worth getting if you find it. It won’t disappoint.

Yeah, I’ve got the Smithsonian version, and most of the dark markings are absent.
Would have loved owning this back in the day, along with the other three IA beasts!
