avatar_Psittacoraptor @Psittacoraptor, yes, you can back stretch goals without having to buy one of the rexes. As the stretch goals are unlocked, David will start adding new tiers to the Kickstarter page for those figures, and you can select  those for your rewards instead of the rexes.

It's a good idea to pledge even before your preferred stretch goals get unlocked, though, since that boosts the funding and makes it more likely that every figure will get funded. You can change your rewards and your pledge amount at any time before the end of the campaign.
Thanks for the explanation. Seems like it's going really well so far, so I'll probably wait until the stretch goals are unlocked. Luckily, 3 out of the 4 figures I want are among the first stretch goals (Yutyrannus, Dilong & Guanlong).

It'll be interesting to see how many people will have backed this project after the campaign ends. The raptor series had a lot more backers than the ceratopsian series (2.661 for the raptors vs 1.640 for the ceratopsians). Theropods really are the most popular dino group, so this KS should do very well.

Concavenator

So the campaign ends on 21st October, doesn't it?

Glad it's going so well!

Flaffy

Wow! Not even a day and the campaign is already over halfway funded. I fully expect this KS to meet and exceed it's base funding goal by the end of the day!

Hope to see more detailed galleries of the painted prototypes soon. With how pricy these things are, I'd like to be able to decide which figures I want asap so I can plan my finances.

Does anyone know if it is possible to embed the kickstarter preview on the forum here? Here is the link it gives me. I would really like to have this in the op.

Edit: David confirmed on some instagram comments that Beasts of the Mesozoic is not finished. He is just hoping to move away from doing the family series and having move diverse species selection. Both projects (BotM and Cyberzoic) will share the same sculpts going forward.

Edit: David also confirmed we may be seeing more 1/35th scale figures in the future, over on in the kickstarter campaign's comments:

I plan to eventually grow the 1/35 scale line up, but for now it's just T. rex.

Thanks for linking that, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin (and thank you for all the rapid-fire updates to the thread--this is a lot of work!). This is a smart move on David's part. It would be hard to keep the family series business model going beyond this point, so I'm glad he feels like he can move past it now.

David also announced that Kickstarter gave the campaign the "Projects We Love" designation, so that means they'll add it to their promotion page. A little less than $65k to go!

Giganotosaurus

So that means we shouldn't expect a stegosaur or spinosaur family, but maybe individual releases in the future?

It also seems David will be moving on from dinosaurs after this campaign it seems, or at least in the accurate prehistoric sense. He's already begun development for dragons previously, so safe to say there will be more of those, and other things down the road.

I'm okay with that. Although I wonder how popular sci-fi dinosaurs would be.

DEAR LORD NO-

If they made models based off of Dragons a Fantasy Made Real then I'd be interested...

Well that certainly took off, didn't it? 150k just 6 hours. I can definitely see it being completely funded in 24 hours.

As if today could not be more exciting (at least for me, dunno bout the rest of you folks), but David just confirmed in a response to someone in the kickstarter comments that an Allosaurus is planned for the Cyberzoic project. So happy to see that.

Edit: In the Facebook comments of this post, Kentrosaurus was confirmed for the next project as well. Very exciting to see as well. He also mentioned it will consist of armored dinosaurs and dragons.

Brontozaurus

I pledged for the WWD rex and added some extra on for a stretch goal. Would've pledged for more but then I looked at the Australian dollar exchange rate and ouch is the best way to describe my feelings about it. At this rate I think other than the rex I'll just get the Dryptosaurus if we get that far, or Yutyrannus if we don't.

He also confirmed a Kentrosaurus in a Facebook response to a question about stegosaurs!

Faelrin

T @thedeadlymoose You must have posted that right as I edited my response up there, lol.

Honestly now I'm already getting excited for the what-ifs of that project, especially the full roster, but however still have this to look forward to in the meantime.

Edit: Less then 10k to go! Almost funded now!

ITdactyl

Pardon this query from a kickstarter ignoramus.

Am I correct to assume that the 65USD (for international buyers) listed for the 1/35 Tyrannosaurus is a kickstarter pledge amount and not necessarily its retail price?

Faelrin

avatar_ITdactyl @ITdactyl Correct, it is not its retail price, however after your card is charged when the campaign ends, you will not be expected to pay more (unless you add on any more figures or whatever during the survey period). It will be offered at its cheapest during the campaign, and will increase price slightly during the pre-order period preceding the campaign, and the final msrp will be higher as well. So if you can afford to (or technically when the campaign ends Oct. 22), best would be to get it now.

Edit: Since I couldn't figure out how to exactly go about adding the kickstarter tracker, I added the one from kicktraq to the op. Hope this helps folks keep an eye on how its going (short of checking the campaign itself anyways).

Haha! That timing...

Yes, agreed. I think this is a clever approach. This would easily open up more unique species having parts-sharing, since there's more excuses for variation than "another species with a very similar body or that's so fragmentary it's plausibly deniable". Might also work better for species groups that aren't All Stars.

Under $6k to go now.

Post from action figure website Toyark about this:

https://news.toyark.com/2021/09/22/beasts-of-the-mesozoic-tyrannosaur-series-kickstarter-live-444687#more-444687

Some images (may or may not have seen these before, including in the campaign, but doesn't hurt):

Both T. rex figures. Thinking about their dimensions, and wow the size of both of these blow me away. I think even the 1/35 T. rex might give the 1/6 raptors a run for their money, never mind the upcoming 1/18th scale ones. I imagine getting the big 1/18th T. rex will be ways off for me, but someday I hope.
