Lambeosaurus (Ultimate Dinosaurs by Yowie Group)

Here’s another of the more exciting additions to Yowie’s Ultimate Dinosaurs series, the Lambeosaurus. I say more exciting because Lambeosaurus is somewhat of a rarity on the toy market, especially in more kid oriented little sets like this. So, at the very least, the addition of this genus into the series helps bring awareness to Lambeosaurus. But is it any good?

It’s a bit of a mixed bag, really. The head sculpt is decent enough and the crest is well executed, and I like the tall arched back detailed with a row of spines. The posture is dynamic and modern too, but the legs are proportionally too long, and the tail is ridiculously short. It ends up looking like an awkward baby, which is how a lot of these Yowie dinosaurs look with their wonky proportions. I think a lot of that is because they’re trying to fit the toy in a small plastic egg. The paintjob is attractive, with the figure being pastel green with orange spots. The crest is red and there’s a nice blending of green and red over the face.

Yowie had the right idea with this one, but the constraints brought about by the nature of these toys forced them to make some design choices that make this little guy rather peculiar looking. It’s nice to have another Lambeosaurus around though. Worth seeking out for the diehard ornithopod folks and certainly a welcome addition to any kid’s dinosaur toy bucket.

With the Yowie T. rex (Yikes!) and Iguanodon.
