Review: Pachycephalosaurus (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: Age: Type:

3.9 (17 votes)
With its wonderful knobby skull and domed cranium, Pachycephalosaurus  is one of the most distinctive dinosaurs. Paleontologists are still divided over how precisely it used its noggin, although a 2013 study by the University of Wisconsin concluded that it did indeed engage in intraspecific conflict.

Review: Deinotherium (Deluxe Collection by CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: , , Type:

4.3 (14 votes)

History: One of the biggest Proboscideans of all time lived during the Early Miocene through to mid Pleistocene, yet it is largely forgotten by the general public. The Woolly Mammoth gets all the attention and love, with appearances in film, literature, and in toy form.

Review: Bistahieversor (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

4.5 (21 votes)
Bistahieversor was a large basal tyrannosaurid hailing from New Mexico. ‘Bistahi’ is a Navajo word that refers to the Bisti badlands where the dinosaur’s fossil remains were discovered while ‘eversor’ appropriately means ‘destroyer.’

In stark contrast to 2013’s lethargic Daspletosaurus, the 2014 CollectA Bistahieversor is sculpted in a dynamic action pose.

Review: Hypsilophodon family (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: Age: Type:

4.1 (9 votes)

Hypsilophodon was a tasty little morsel for vacationing and local carnivorous animals during the early Cretaceous. It is believed the Hypsilophodon would have been very fast and nimble. Along with its small size; it was probably a hard catch for the predators, un-like many of us today, Cretaceous predators probably did not like the idea of fast food.

Review: Kentrosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

Review and photographs by Tallin, edited by Plesiosauria.
A small member of the stegosaur family from Tanzania, Kentrosaurus aethiopicus is often hidden in the shadow of its much larger and more famous big brother, Stegosaurus stenops. That’s not to say that other toy lines haven’t made their own versions of it; CollectA and Safari Ltd both have a Kentrosaurus for example, but they are rather small models that remain overlooked next to their well-known American cousin.

Review: Liliensternus (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

3 (11 votes)
History: Ah the Triassic, a vastly important but overlooked period of time that occurred before the Jurassic. The Triassic began in the wake of the massive die off and it would take 30 million years for life to recover. Strange and magnificent beasts emerged from the dust and battled for control of Pangaea.

Review: Quetzalcoatlus with Alamosaurus prey (CollectA)

Genus: , Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

4.1 (15 votes)
With a body as big as a giraffe’s and a wingspan of 10 metres or more, Quetzalcoatlus was both the largest pterosaur and the largest flying animal of all time. Next to an adult Alamosaurus, however, it would have looked like a herring gull.

Review: Diplodocus (Natural History Museum by Toyway)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

3.8 (9 votes)

Here is the 2006 Toyway Diplodocus, ready to tap dance into your hearts, across your living room, and give comedic one timers. Couldn’t you just picture this model walking on stage to an in-studio audience applause and doing an opening monologue. Of course with that smile, it should do some toothpaste commercials as well.

News: Upcoming releases from CollectA (New for 2015)

News Category: Brand:

I usually post about CollectA’s new figures towards the end of the year preceding release, so better late than never! However, in this case, the delay has been rewarded, because since revealing most of their upcoming 2015 releases at the end of 2014, CollectA squeezed a few more figures into their lineup in January 2015.

Review: Gastonia (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , , Age: Type:

4.5 (28 votes)

During the early Cretaceous in North America around 126 million years ago, a small herbivore emerges from the trees in a wooded forest lifting its head to smell the breeze that is drifting by. It ambles into the clearing on its small legs and starts to nibble some of the vegetation at the forest edge.

Review: Archaeopteryx (Papo)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

4.1 (19 votes)
First discovered in 1861, Archaeopteryx lithographica was the first fossil to demonstrate an evolutionary link between dinosaurs and birds. As such, it rightly remains one of the most famous and important fossils in the history of paleontology.

Archaeopteryx rounds out Papo’s prehistoric assortment for 2014 and it does seem fitting that their first feathered dinosaur should be the legendary Ancient Wing itself.
