I have to admit to being a bit of a lapsed amateur paleontologist; I know the basics about a core group of the more well-known dinosaurs, so when CollectA released this one, I had to hit the reference books and online sources to find out what I was looking at.

It has been 17 years since Jurassic Park III first came out, and with it, the controversial Spinosaurus. It was quite a surprise when it was first revealed that Mattel was going to be releasing one as part of the Legacy Collection.

Apart from the ever-famous Plesiosauria, the superorder Sauropterygia also contains a significant number of lesser-known taxa. Despite the diverse morphology of these reptiles, they are pretty rarely represented as toy figures. Thankfully, PNSO has made a (relatively speaking) sizeable number of these oddballs for their line of minis, including a Glyphoderma in 2016, and this year, an Atopodentatus and the subject of this review: a Keichousaurus.

Takara’s figure is a pleasant little rendition of the roofed reptile and a compliment to its fellow dinosaurs from the same line. It’s no surprise that Takara Tomy opted to include the “roofed reptile” as the third prehistoric entry to their Animal Adventure (sometimes branded ANIA) toy line.

It’s fantastic to see Mattel make so many different species of dinosaurs for the Jurassic World FK line. Minmi is another one of those wonderful rarely seen dinosaurs that is gracing us in plastic form. This animal is not just a mini me version of an ankylosaur.

Say what you want about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, you do have to admire that it brought so many obscure genera to the pop culture forefront. Because of that a lot of poorly represented dinosaurs have a chance at some fame which is only a good thing for those of us that collect dinosaur reproductions.

Have you ever dreamed of visiting a theme park that featured up-do-date, scientifically accurate (or as close to accurate as one can get) dinosaurs as opposed to tired old movie monsters? Well, that may never come to pass for real, but Dinosaurs in the Wild comes pretty danged close.

If you had to ask me what my favorite scene in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is, it would easily be the opening sequence. So once I heard that Mattel was in fact releasing a set based upon that scene, I knew I had to have it, once it was finally released.
