Review: Procynosuchus (Bullyland)

Today I want to introduce to you an extraordinary Bullyland figure that is not available that easily: The Procynosuchus from the “Korbacher Spalte” in Germany (“cleft of Korbach”). Also called the “Korbach dachshund”, this ‘mammal-like reptile’ has been found in a cleft where Permian layers outcrop, about 256 million years old.

Tsintaosaurus is a dinosaur that has not been reconstructed as a figure very often. To be honest, I do not even know of one company that has produced it, maybe our readers know more?
However, the Tsintaosaurus of this review was not produced by a special company but is an exclusive version apparently produced for the Museum Of Natural History in Basel, Switzerland.

Micromachines, a brand noted for their wide range of miniature automobiles, stepped outside the box when they produced a series of dinosaurs in association with National Geographic. Obviously they are all tiny, a bit smaller than the figures in Kaiyodo’s dinotales range, but they are quite nice and very collectible.

This Invicta Stenonychosaurus/ Troodon is already 21 years old and still one of the best coelurosaur reconstructions that have ever been made.

I really like this very credible sculpture for it has many details which are not obvious at first sight.

This figure is not a dinosaur but a very felicitous reconstruction of a plant-eating pelycosaur from the Lower Permian Period. Once again, Bullyland have proved that they are able to create realistic and authentic figures of extinct animals.

I said felicitous because the Bullyland Edaphosaurus is very authentic in many aspects.

If you you are looking for an up-to-date, scientifically accurate dinosaur, this guy isn’t for you. However, if you like cool, vicious-looking, fun to play with dinosaurs, this figure is perfect.If you want to look at the Kenner Utahraptor with a scientist’s eye, there are very many problems; The short and bendy tail, the wrong positioning of the hands, the huge feet, the lack of feathers, and the over-sized claws.

Pliosaurs again! This time we will sample Procon’s offering which is a Liopleurodon.

This is the second plesiosaur produced by Procon, the first one being the elasmosaurid Hydrotherosaurus (reviewed here), but this is their first pliosaur. Procon are tending to divide collectors with their new lines.

Baryonyx figures have a tendency to be produced in a quadropedal posture. This is most notable in the Schleich version (reviewed here) and the Invicta version (reviewed here), and is almost the case in this Carnegie Collection version by Safari Ltd. I say “almost” because only one hand contacts the ground, while the other one is marginally lifted.

We reviewed this figure briefly before (here) but thanks to Atomic Elephant who sent us a review sample, we can now give this hefty figure a little more attention. There are two versions with differing paint schemes, a blue design and the grey/blue design, which we present here (although it look blue in our photos because of the lighting!).

The WWD line has been out of production for some years and was only available locally for a short period of time, so this rare figure is quickly becoming a ‘holy grail’ for dinosaur collectors.
