Ceoptera (meaning “mist wing”) is a genus of darwinopteran that lived in Scotland during the mid-Jurassic. It is notable in several respects. It’s the only pterosaur known from the Kilmaluag Formation, one of the only pterosaurs known from the middle Jurassic, the second described pterosaur from Scotland (Dearc is the first), and the most complete pterosaur found in the UK since Mary Anning discovered Dimorphodon in the 1800’s.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (Super Colossal)(Jurassic World: Rebirth by Mattel)

Up until this year, the largest Mattel toy in my sons’ Jurassic World collection was the Dino Escape Mosasaurus. I had had no intention to bestow anything greater than that upon them. But as it so happened, the latest Super Colossal Tyrannosaurus rex went on sale last December for a whopping 55% off, which I reckoned was a bargain simply too good to pass up (and come to think of it, that was pretty much the exact same thing that transpired with the previous Mattel T.

Review: Achillobator (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Strike Attack by Mattel)

Achillobator is a genus of dromaeosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous is what is now Mongolia. It is known from the Bayanshiree formation, which is known for its diverse assortment of therizinosaurs, including the recently described Duonychus.

Review: Titanosaurus (Jurassic World: Rebirth, by Mattel)

Titanosaurus is a dubious genus of titanosaur described in 1877. It would have lived during the late Cretaceous in what is now India. Named after the Titans of Greek mythology, it is the first dinosaur described from India. Two species have been named: T.

Review: Spinosaurus (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Tail Thrasher by Mattel)

3.7 (3 votes)

Fans of Jurassic Park 3 were delighted when they learned that the Spinosaurus would be making a long awaited return to the franchise in Jurassic World: Rebirth, only to be quickly disappointed that the Spinosaurus got a design overhaul that leaned into a more paleo-accurate interpretation.

Back in early April, a commercial for the new Jurassic World Rebirth toys gave us our first taste of things to come, at least as far as the smaller Frenzy Pack figure assortment goes. One of those revealed was a small ornithopod, which immediately caught my interest.

Review: Aucasaurus (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Wild Roar by Mattel)

4 (1 votes)

Despite being the most complete abelisaurid known, Aucasaurus is not a terribly popular dinosaur. Described in 2002, it wouldn’t get a toy until 2025*, and with their fondness for abelisaurids well established, it’s no surprise that Mattel would be the first to tackle the genus.

Review: Minqaria (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Frenzy Pack by Mattel)

3.5 (2 votes)

Today we’re looking at Mattel’s latest fragmentary dinosaur that you’ve never heard of, Minqaria, a late Cretaceous lambeosaur. Until the announcement of this toy I had never heard of this dinosaur. Mattel’s odd assortment of obscure animals has introduced me to a lot of things I’ve never heard of, and I’m thankful for it!

Review: Quetzalcoatlus (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Aerial Ambush by Mattel)

Genus: Brand: , , Classification: Age: Type: Scale:

When it comes to pterosaur toys the companies that make them have two options; make it in a flying pose or make it in a standing pose. Since kids play with them, most pterosaurs are in flying poses, but there have been many standing pterosaurs over the years going all the way back to Marx in the 1950’s with their standing Pteranodon.

Review: Utahraptor (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Wild Roar by Mattel)

4.7 (3 votes)

Although never featured in any Jurassic Park or Jurassic World film, Utahraptor has had ties to the franchise since the beginning. Remains of Utahraptor were first discovered in 1975 but it wouldn’t generate much attention until the discovery of a claw and additional remains in 1991.

Review: Mosasaurus (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Bite ‘N Blast by Mattel)

Genus: Brand: , , Classification: Age: Type: Scale:

I generally don’t have favorable opinions about the Jurassic World trilogy, but I’ll give them credit for one thing: reinstating Mosasaurus as the A-List paleo-media star it deserves to be. Mosasaurus has been a staple of Mesozoic media since its discovery two centuries ago now; but thanks to its prominent appearances in the Jurassic World films, the mighty quasi-lizard of the ocean has been thrust front and center into widespread fame once again.

Review: Inostrancevia (Jurassic World: Rebirth, Strike Attack by Mattel)

3.7 (3 votes)

I first heard of Inostrancevia in a 1994 episode of Paleo-World titled “Tale of the Sail”, about the synapsids that dominated the Permian period. It has been one of my favorite prehistoric animal names ever since, with a pleasant mouthfeel even if the name sounds cooler than it is.
