During the Late Cretaceous, the region currently known as the harsh Gobi Desert of Mongolia was a rich expanse of floodplains, mudflats, and shallow lakes. Here one would find abundant titanosaurs, hadrosaurs, ankylosaurs, and pachycephalosaurs, although no known ceratopsids to date.

The kinds of dinosaur toy fans who care about accuracy and realism tend to find Schleich frustrating, perhaps because Schleich has, at the very least, the technical capacity to make outstanding figures. For example, their recent Kentrosaurus was a solid effort, but in the same year as a good figure like that they’ll release arrestingly ugly toys.

So here I am with the Schleich ‘Conquering the Earth’ 2018 repainted Therizinosaurus.

As one of the strangest looking dinosaurs discovered it is unsurprising that Therizinosaurus and its kin have been represented in toy form by most of the major companies, sometimes more than once or in different scales. CollectA and Safari Ltd have several examples of this strange therapod family in their ranges, and we have thus come to expect a similar shape for members of the therizinosaur clade: a pot-belly, small head and stumpy legs (reflecting fossil evidence from a variety of finds over the years).

Torosaurus was a Late Cretaceous ceratopsian from North America, and its nearly 9-foot skull was among the largest of any land-based organism in natural history. The holotype specimen was discovered in Wyoming in 1891 by John Hatcher and the genus Torosaurus was established by the famous American paleontologist Othniel C.

We already made it through the first two issues of the Schleich Team Dino magazine, so here comes the third, which is also the 24th issue of the Schleich Dinosaurs magazine by Blue Ocean Entertainment as a whole. This one is available for December 2020 and January 2021 and the animal included as a gimmick is the Triceratops.

If you were in the marketing department of a company intending to put out a line of dinosaur toys, it’s odds on that you would include a Triceratops, right? Not only do most brands have a Triceratops in their range, but the species is frequently updated and released in different versions.

To round out all of Schleich’s World of History ceratopsians on the blog, I will be reviewing the Triceratops (be sure to read Alice’s Pentaceratops review and my Styracosaurus review). Triceratops is a very popular dinosaur, so there is no reason why I would have to introduce it to this community.

While Barnum Brown is the name associated with the discory of the fossils that should be crowned Tyrannosaurus rex, it was in fact Edward Drinker Cope that dug up the first remains of our all beloved theropod. He described Manospondylus gigas from two fragmentary vertebrae eight years before Brown eventually dug up a partial skeleton.

Tyrannosaurus rex. Now there’s a name that conjures up all sorts of images, but what’s left to say about this iconic animal? Probably not a lot, but in the case of this figure, Schleich seemed to think that they had something different to offer.

2014 has brought us many interesting and downright awesome models, including CollectA’s beautiful Carcharodontosaurus and Papo’s somewhat inaccurate, but stunning and incredibly detailed Dilophosaurus. Every company has their new dinosaur models each year, so of course that means Schleich follows suit.

Schleich can be seen as the equivalent of McDonald’s in that, despite the sometimes lacklustre quality of their products, they are still the most globally successful of all the companies specializing in PVC scale models of extinct and extant fauna. Take for example their 2012 Tyrannosaurus rex mould.
