All this buzz over the next instalment of the Jurassic Park franchise, officially now in production under the title of ‘Jurassic World’ and set for a 2015 summer release, has spurred me to take a look back at some of the toys from previous films. And, why not, speculate a little about what the future may hold for Jurassic Park action figures.

When it comes to Jurassic Park, you need to have the king. For the Jurassic World line in 2015 there are three main T-Rex toys. There is the small Basher and Biter, the medium Chomping, and the Large Stomp and Strike. All three look very similar in their basic colors, so there is not much variation, other than their size, and the style of gimmicks they have.

Tyrannosaurus Rex (Jurassic World Basher and Biters by Hasbro)

The basher and biter Tyrannosaurus Rex is an important part of the legacy and impact of the Jurassic World toys that came out in 2015. This was the first toy (brown version) that I saw from this line, and for me, it really set the tone for the rest of the series.

Once Universal and Hasbro saw the potential in Jurassic World toys after great sales last year, they decided to bring it back as DINO HYBRIDS! The new line consists of repaints and retooled JW dinosaurs with features such as removable armor, spikes and so forth.

It includes the popular brands Star Wars, Transformers, Marvel Super Heroes, and, beginning in 2015, Jurassic World. Today we’ll be taking a look at one of the largest sets: the Toys R Us exclusive Tyrannosaurus rex.

The closure of Kenner by parent company Hasbro in 2000 meant that an entirely different team would design the toys for Jurassic Park 3. Many dinosaur collectors, including myself, feel that the quality of the line took a major nosedive as a result. As proof, I give you the “Alpha” Velociraptor.

Velociraptor is one of the best known dinosaurs in the world, and it owes its popularity to Jurassic Park. On screen, it is a cunning and deadly foe that is smart, fast, social, and hunts in groups so it can lay traps for its quarry. In reality, it was small 3ft dinosaur from Mongolia that had feathers.

I know what your thinking, do we need to see another Jurassic World toy review? Can this toy be any better than its predecessors? Even though I made up my mind not to review anymore toys from Hasbro’s JW line, for some reason I am compelled to give it another try and go down with the ship.
