Torosaurus was a Late Cretaceous ceratopsian from North America, and its nearly 9-foot skull was among the largest of any land-based organism in natural history. The holotype specimen was discovered in Wyoming in 1891 by John Hatcher and the genus Torosaurus was established by the famous American paleontologist Othniel C.

Afrovenator – that’s one most people haven’t (and won’t) heard of. It almost makes me surprised that CollectA did one (but I guess if any of the mainstream dinosaur companies were to do one, it would be them).

Afrovenator itself was a megalosaur (or allosaur or spinosaur, does anybody even know?) from mid-jurassic Africa, who was about thirty feet long, and was presumably a pretty nasty fellow.

No dinosaur figure collection is complete without Parasaurolophus. While some may outclass her in a popularity contest, she is certainly the most well-known of all hadrosaurs. Her signature crest provides instant recognition, and this reconstruction for the Battat line includes a rarely-depicted stretch of skin running from the crest to the neck.

Dinosaur toys are one of the most popular items with any toy company and as most people know, where there are dinosaurs being represented, there are always pterosaurs right along with them. Rhamphorhynchus is one pterosaur that I specifically remember growing up with as a kid along with Pteranodon, Dimorphodon and Quetzalcoatlus.

Despite being such a famous dinosaur, most of the Triceratops figures out there don’t quite do the animal justice. The rendition of this dinosaur by the legendary Battat line, created for the Boston Museum of Science, does indeed do Triceratops justice, despite being made in 1994.

Given the preponderance of bald dromaeosaurs that still stink up dinosaur toy stores, it was nice to see Bullyland step in two years ago with a Luis Rey-inspired feathered version of that perennial favourite, Velociraptor. Unfortunately the results are a little mixed – a figure with great potential let down in a few key areas.

A sheep sized ceratopsian from Late Cretaceous Mongolia; Protoceratops was one of the earlier ceratopsians. Unlike later ceratopsians, Protoceratops did not have huge nasal or brow horns. However, it was no weakling. Perhaps the most famous Protoceratops fossil is the “Fighting Dinosaurs” specimen.
