What an impressive debut PNSO has made this year! From huge resin statues ranging from $500 to $2000(yowza!) to large vinyl figures and to a variety of finely detailed miniatures, it looks like this Chinese company is going to be causing us dinosaur collectors much joy and much lighter wallets in future!

Who here loves basal sauropterygians!? The Sauropterygia is a group of marine reptiles that include the well-known plesiosaurs and several other smaller-bodied groups, including nothosaurs and placodonts, which tend to receive far less attention. This is especially the case in toy form, which is unjust because these are fascinatingly weird creatures, well-deserving of a figure or two.

Just recently, the Chinese company PNSO stirred the DinoToyBlog community with the release of their first dinosaur (and some not so “dinosaur”) figures, especially because they became available via Amazon, thereby lowering the costs and challenges of overseas deals by a good share.

A couple years ago I had the privilege of attending a presentation by paleontologist Dr. Scott Sampson at my local museum. The presentation was called “Dinosaurs of the Lost Continent” and concerned the recent discoveries being made in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah.

Many millions of years ago, the vast Tethys Sea covered what would one day be the deserts of the Middle East and other large parts of the world. The demise of the mighty aquatic marine reptiles, along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous opened up these vast oceans for a new cast of characters to take center stage and dominate.

The last decade has seen the discovery of several new and charismatic species of ceratopsians and as fast as science describes them the toy companies start pumping them out. This is great for collectors who wish to display the diversity of this fascinating dinosaur group but while these new dinosaurs get all the attention there are several genera described in previous decades that seem to get forgotten about.

Pterosaurs are known for their often outlandish headgear with one of the most extreme examples coming from the late Cretaceous genus Nytosaurus. The crest on this genus was truly gigantic, being as long as the body of the animal itself with a tall spike protruding from the back of the head and another horizontal crest jutting off the back.

In the summer of 2016, the dinosaur collecting community was introduced to a new line of prehistoric figures that was little know outside of China. The PNSO ( short for Peking Natural Science-Art Organization) line of prehistoric figures started with six large dinosaurs and a set of six little baby dinosaurs.

Enter the PNSO! I first became aware of The Peking Natural Science-Art Organisation in March 2016, when I visited their offices and workshop in Beijing on a work-related business trip. It was with great excitement that I discovered this blossoming company has its sights set not only on literature and 2D palaeoart (my expectation going in), but also on commercially available 3D art as well: dinosaur toys.
