It has become an annual dinotoyblog tradition, around this time of year, to post an overview of each toy company’s upcoming dinosaur figures. So, here we go again, starting with Safari Ltd.
There’s just a single new addition to the Carnegie Collection in 2014, a brand new version of the ever-popular T.

This news comes a little earlier in the year than usual, but maybe that’s because these figures will all be released late in 2014, just in time for Christmas. These early images come from a PDF version of a “2015 New Product Guide” by Safari Ltd, which was posted as low resolution images on Facebook by a dealer based in Sweden.

Despite the sad retirement of their long-respected and trend-setting Carnegie Collection this year, Safari Ltd have shown no signs of slowing down with their other major prehistoric animal line – Wild Safari. The company has five brand new for 2016 prehistoric animal sculpts in the pipeline: four dinosaurs and one marine reptile.

This month Safari Ltd excited us all by announcing a bumper lineup of 13 new prehistoric creatures scheduled for release over the coming months. Feathers play a key part of the story with five of the new dinosaurs sporting up-to-date plumage, including some very familiar species. Close observers have also pointed out a notable overlap with species previously portrayed by Safari Ltd in their recently discontinued Carnegie Collection.

Safari has revealed its final two prehistoric toys for the year. First up is a repaint of their baby Brachiosaurus, which originally came out a good 26 years ago. Wonder if the adult version will also be rereleased in these colours?

Four new prehistoric toys from Safari Ltd. were revealed at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend. First up is the South American dromaeosaurid Austroraptor. It will surely go great with Velociraptor, Deinonychus, and Utahraptor.

In 2016, I moved from the hot and humid deciduous forests of Georgia to the hot and dry high deserts of Utah. It wasn’t a stark change for me, though, as I grew up in the hotter and drier Sonoran Desert of Arizona.

The first specimen of Utahraptor ostrommaysorum was found in 1975. In 1991 further remains were found, and like its fellow dromaeosaurids, it also sported a large, nightmare inducing, “killing” curved claw on its toe. Thanks to its size being comparable to the over sized Velociraptors in Jurassic Park, and starring in a popular book written by paleontologist Robert T.

Safari have really performed excellently with the Wild Safari line this year. While their bipeds have attracted criticism from some quarters for having oversized feet (the Ceratosaurus being particularly irksome in this respect), it’s clear that the production values have really been ramped up – maybe even (whisper it) to Papo standards.

So this is it – the very end of the Carnegie Collection. At least we got our feathered Velociraptor before the final bow. It’s by no means perfect, but it should at least prove more popular than last year’s bafflingly despised T. rex resculpt.

Back in 1993 Safari Ltd. released a rather large Velociraptor that allegedly belonged to their “Dinosaurs of China” line. As it turns out, it didn’t and while it has been briefly reviewed on the blog already that review was the old style “single paragraph” review.

For a long time now, too long in fact, various collectable dinosaur companies have tried and failed to make a properly feathered and accurate representation of one of the world’s most popular dinosaurs; Velociraptor and its kin the stem-birds we call dromaeosaurs or “raptors.” When I first started collecting dinosaur toys the best representations included those by Bullyland and CollectA and while we commend their efforts to popularize feathered dinosaurs they ultimately failed to make convincing looking animals.

It looks as though Papo finally has some competition. This Velociraptor by Wild Safari is great, and it can be found pretty cheap too. I bought mine for $7.99. It has to be the best Safari velociraptor ever (All of the other safari velociraptors are ugly in my opinion!).
