Back in 2010 our own Libraraptor reviewed a little Apatosaurus, part of Bullyland’s Micro Tiere Collection released in 2005. Having found the same little figure in an eBay lot I was very curious about this small but seemly high quality figure.

One of my first reviews, written three years ago, was for a colorful little Jurassic Park Dilophosaurus put out by Dakin in 1992. The same little toy was also a major catalyst for joining the Dinosaur Toy Forum in the first place.

Another day, another toy Triceratops. This one’s from Araki’s new range of ‘Soft Models’ for Favorite (which may or may not constitute the second series), and is surely one of the best of the bunch, although there’s no escaping the fact that, like the others, it’d be vastly improved by a better paint job.

Let’s face it – if you’re reading this blog you have known since your age could be measured in single digits that Triceratops was a late Cretaceous ceratopsian from North America whose name means “three horned face”… etc., etc., etc.

One of the standout pieces in CollectA’s 2012 lineup is this 1:15 scale reconstruction of Triceratops. The creation of this piece was certainly influenced by the success of CollectA’s giant 1:15 Tyrannosaurus model. However, while the giant Rex was essentially a “blown up” version of their popular “Deluxe” sized figure, this Triceratops is an entirely new sculpt.

When I saw the Takara Tomy Tyrannosaurus on eBay, I was intrigued – had someone finally made a plastic T. rex that sported ‘protofeathers’? Naturally, I snapped one up and, of course, I received this Triceratops instead.

This year Favorite have released this resculpt of their ‘Desktop’ Triceratops, and from an anatomical perspective it’s a huge improvement. The ‘Desktop’ models are freestanding resin statues that also come with a wooden plinth to look all grown-up like. Since the plinth isn’t attached you are free to discard it and display them alongside your less worthy plastic toys, for consistency’s sake.

Triceratops is the largest known ceratopsian and lived at the very end of the reign of dinosaurs in what is now North America. Kaiyodo came out with two different renditions of this dinosaur, one in its first series and then a newer, more up to date rendition in its fifth series featured here.
