The first fossils of the Late Triassic sauropodomorph Mussaurus were discovered in the ’70s by an expedition led by the late Jose Bonaparte in Argentina. These consisted of eggs and juveniles small enough to fit in your hands; hence the name, meaning “Mouse Lizard.” However, this name isn’t particularly fitting given that in 2013, the first adult specimens of Mussaurus were described and estimated to reach up 20 feet in length.

Deinonychus is kind of a big deal. Its inescapably bird-like skeleton is part of what led paleontologists of the early 1970s to re-examine old ideas about the origin of birds, and the nature of dinosaurs as a group.

Concavenator was an Early Cretaceous carcharodontosaur hailing from Spain. The beautifully preserved holotype fossil possessed a set of extended vertebrae that formed a triangular ridge in front of the hips. This bizarre feature has caused the species’ star to grow quickly, causing it to receive several toys and even cameo in the second Jurassic World movie.

Schleich is a brand known among collectors both for their wide distribution and for their usually inaccurate prehistoric models, although sometimes (especially in the most recent years), they produced some decent or even great ones like their two versions of Kentrosaurus and last year’s Spinosaurus.

Hello, this is ‘Prehistory Resurrection’, formerly known as ‘Resurrection of the dinosaurs.’ The figure that I will review today is CollectA’s 2009 brown Tyrannosaurus rex figure from its old Procon line. At first, I thought that it was just a repainted version of the original 2006 version, but when I compared it with the images, I saw some differences in their sculpts which I will describe in full.

As many of you know, Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect was a short-lived toy line famous for its hybrids. While most fans remember the Velocirapteryx, there was one other raptor hybrid created: the Paradeinonychus, a cross between a Parasaurolophus and a Deinonychus.

In addition to preserving their anatomy, fossils can also show us how organisms behaved. One example of this is the Chinese troodontid Mei long, the type fossil of which is a complete juvenile specimen preserved in a sleeping position.

To me, Baryonyx is the quintessential British dinosaur. Perhaps a more classic taxon like Iguanodon or Megalosaurus really deserves the top spot, but there’s something about Baryonyx that stands out in my mind as inescapably British, and I think this is very likely to do with the fact that, for a long time, the best Baryonyx toy available was the classic monochrome rendition produced by Invicta Plastics for the British Museum.
