Following in the footsteps of Safari Ltd and Papo, CollectA burst into the world of miniatures in late 2015. Today we’ll be looking at Prehistoric Tube A, which contains no less than ten figures of some of the most popular dinosaurs and other extinct animals. The tube itself measures 27 cm long, is made of transparent hard plastic, opens like a chest, and fastens shut securely with a clasp.

If you had to ask me what my favorite scene in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is, it would easily be the opening sequence. So once I heard that Mattel was in fact releasing a set based upon that scene, I knew I had to have it, once it was finally released.

The second new addition for the Carnegie Collection in 2009 is a mosasaur – the ferocious Tylosaurus. Mosasaurs are a real rarity in toy form so this is an exciting release! The figure might be considered a replacement for the now retired Carnegie Collection Mosasaurus.

Tylosaurus was one of the biggest and baddest mosasaurs, second only to Mosasaurus itself. Indeed, the largest mounted mosasaur skeleton in the world is the 13 metre long “Bruce,” located at the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Manitoba.
CollectA’s 2009 Tylosaurus figure measures a mere 18.5 cm long, but that’s only due to the pose it’s sculpted in.

Very occasionally, the fossil record allows us a fascinating glimpse into interactions between various extinct animals. Take the “Talkeetna Mountains Hadrosaur” for example. Discovered in Alaska in 1994, it is a juvenile specimen that washed out to sea after its death and eventually sank to the bottom to become fossilized.

The vast inland sea known as the Western Interior Seaway of the Late Cretaceous split the continent that we would come to know today as North America from north to south. As the landmasses on either side were ruled by dinosaurs and other terrestrial animals, this inland sea was ruled by huge marine reptiles.

Goodness, but it’s been quite awhile since the last time I did a Recur review. The company still appears to be struggling to break out of the Asian market, as their products are not available at any of the most popular online stores like EverythingDinosaur or MiniZoo or Dan’s Dinosaurs.

One is snakes (yes, all snakes are lizards, but not all lizards are snakes). Another is the mosasaurs, a group of large aquatic lizards that included some of the largest predators of the late Cretaceous.
