Faster than a Gallimimus running on a Cretaceous treadmill, they’ve sped past their competitors and produced not only one, but three amazing interpretations of Spinosaurus aegypticus based on Paul Sereno and Nizar Ibrahim’s scientific paper published in 2014.

How do you like your Spinosaurus? The reason why I ask, is that when it comes to Spinosaurus, there is still a lot of speculation and hypothesis about its actual anatomy, posture and gait. It leaves it wide open for interpretation for paleo artists and toy makers.

Before I begin this review, I want to get something off my chest. In case it wasn’t already apparent, I like Schleich’s World Of History dinosaur figures. I think they are very distinctive from other brands, and I think each model has a certain charm to it.

Another staple of the Chap Mei prehistoric line is that famous, finned, and fearsome fish-eater from Early Cretaceous Africa, Spinosaurus!

Described in 2012, Ichthyovenator is the first definitive spinosaurid to be discovered in Southeast Asia. Its name means, appropriately, ‘fish hunter.’ Even for a spinosaurid, it was particularly weird-looking due to the fact that it had not one, but two sails on its back.

Ok, so maybe not the dark times, but the fact remains that many in the general public owe their knowledge of dinosaurs due to what they learned in Jurassic Park.

For today’s review, we are going to travel back in time, to such an unimaginably distant era that the world as we know today it simply didn’t exist… specifically, the year 1992. For lovers of carnivorous dinosaurs, this was a simpler and more innocent time.

The first time I ever heard of Suchomimus was when I saw Jurassic Park 3 and the character Billy said, “It’s a super-predator: Suchomimus, “then Billy uses his hand and mimics the length of the snout and finishes by saying, “the snout.” The Suchomimus, which means “crocodile mimic” definitely had a pronounced and interesting snout that in a quick glance resembles today crocodiles and alligators, though in reality there are many structural differences.
