The new hybrid created for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has received several figures from Mattel. The first one that was readily available was the ‘Super Posable’ Indoraptor. The ‘Grab ‘n Growl’ Indoraptor, which will be the subject of this review, is the second one to be released.

For those living under a rock, the “Indoraptor” is the primary antagonist creature in the upcoming film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Like its predecessor, the Indominus rex from the previous film, this creature is a genetically-engineered hybrid, and while the base genome is (presumably) a dromeaosaur, it is not a representation of any known dinosaur species.

Not only did we get two new figures by Mattel, but we also got a new study looking at the jaw articulation of Professor Challenger’s Irritating creature from Brazil! As it stands there is only one review for Irritator on the blog, Irritator being an early Cretaceous spinosaurid from Brazil. That toy is by CollectA and it’s pushing a decade old and quite clearly “early CollectA” in terms of quality. There are a few other Irritator out there but none that are as accessible or as mass produced as that one.

EmperorDinobot here with another Pteranodon from the Jurassic World Franchise by Mattel. Destruct-A-Saurs saw very little distribution across the US, and the few that were found were purchases along the southern border, so collectors were scrambling to get these from our Mexican pals who were always willing to help.

Well, I’ve shown you the worst of this line, let’s waste no time and get straight on to the best of them!
Starting off the top half is everyone’s favourite three horned herbivore Triceratops. This features one of the best poses of the lot (something I haven’t talked at length about as most the figures are in a generic standing pose), an aggressive fight pose, all the better when you have two to joust with.

With the addition of a re-sculpted Stegosaurus, Chialingosaurus, and now this Kentrosaurus to the line, Mattel has given the stegosauria clade much love this year. Until now the only member of this group represented in the line was the 2018 Stegosaurus and its re-paint.

A great change is upon us. It appears that an endless stream of prehistoric creature toys and figures is everywhere now. Every Target store I visit during these horrible times are just full of dinosaur toys, and that is, at least for me, a reason to get up in the morning, put on my mask, and hunt like when I was a kid.

There’s no real debate about it. The Mattel Jurassic World Mosasaurus is still one of the line’s best toys. Pushing 30” in length and covered in rubbery “real feel” material, it has also been released and re-released consistently over the last 5 years. A testament to its quality.

I ended up picking up this Legacy Collection 6 pack during the 2018 holiday season while it was on clearance at Target, after waiting most of the year being indecisive about it. I’ve decided it’s definitely a nice little set of figures, even if most are repaints.

The ending of Jurassic World opened a can of worms to a world of possibilities as to where our favorite sci-fi dinosaur franchise was going. Luckily there was a ton of lore to draw from, whether it was from the books, game or other media, though maybe not as deep as Star Wars, but just like the Star Wars sequel trilogy, there was not much of a plan going forward in terms of movie-making.
