Review: Sauron (Primal Rage by Playmates)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

Primal Rage was one of the more unique fighting games to hit arcades back in 1994. Instead of martial arts warriors, its cast consisted of godlike prehistoric beasts waging a savage battle for control of the planet. By far my favourite character, the one which I mastered the game with, was Sauron, the God of Hunger.

Review: Acrocanthosaurus (Terra Series by Battat)

The wait is finally over folks, and the triumphant return of Battat is underway. Late last summer we were both shocked and thrilled to learn that Battat was back with a new series of dinosaur figures sculpted by Dan LoRusso for the Terra line, exclusive to Target stores in the United States.

Review: Neovenator (Deluxe by CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

3.2 (17 votes)
Discovered on the Isle of Wight, UK, Neovenator was one of Europe’s deadliest dinosaurs, preying on the likes of Hypsilophodon and Iguanodon.

CollectA’s first stab at Neovenator was a Standard class toy, and from the photos I’ve seen, it was nothing to write home about.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (Jurassic Park 3: Re-Ak A-Tak by Hasbro)

For my first ever post for Dinosaur Toy Blog, I was not sure what to review. But with Jurassic World having recently come out and seeing some great previous reviews of toys in the Jurassic Park series, I eventually decided to start with one of my favourites when I was a child.

Having gorged himself on flesh and liver of hadrosaur, the sovereign rises to his full height. He raises his fiery red crest, opens his blood-streaked jaws, and bellows a warning to the landscape. He then retreats to a shady grove a short distance away.

Creative Beast offers a wide selection of interesting model resin kits in addition to a poseable Velociraptor and Oviraptor available in various plastics at 1/12th scale. I ordered the basic raptor, because I was enchanted with idea of being able to use it as a drawing maquette, but I also requested the Oviraptor tail and wing because they fit my personal aesthetic for how raptors should look.

Review: Deinonychus and Velociraptors (Playmobil)

2.7 (14 votes)
The Velociraptor pack has come across an unguarded nest of eggs. But a hungry Deinonychus has also found the nest, and he’s not in the mood to share!

The Playmobil Deinonychus is a small figure, standing only up to 9 cm tall and measuring 14 cm long.

The latest installment of the Jurassic Park franchise has finally hit theaters at the time of this writing. While we continue to discuss what we liked and disliked about the movie on the forum, I thought it would be a great time to tackle my first review of JP merchandise for the blog.

In the world of dinosaur toys, smaller species are not all that common. Most companies seem to think that members of the general public find them to be boring. But we, as a specialized community of dinosaur enthusiasts, can agree that this is far from true.

Review: Ceratosaurus dentisulcatus (‘Savage’ by Rebor)

Ceratosaurus dentisulcatus, or “Savage”, is the fourth 1/35 scale theropod model produced by Rebor, following after their Utahraptor or “Wind Hunter”. The animal represented by this model is the larger of the named and described Ceratosaurus species and is a welcomed addition to the Rebor line mostly due to the lack of other highly detailed Ceratosaurus models available.

Ah, Allosaurus! What dinosaur line is complete without the “Lion of the Jurassic”? The reason it appears in many toy lines is because Allosaurus is a well known dinosaur that has appeared in many dinosaur books and movies.

Review: Ichthyovenator (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

3.7 (15 votes)
Described in 2012, Ichthyovenator is the first definitive spinosaurid to be discovered in Southeast Asia. Its name means, appropriately, ‘fish hunter.’ Even for a spinosaurid, it was particularly weird-looking due to the fact that it had not one, but two sails on its back.
