Review: Velociraptor (Deluxe)(Procon/CollectA)

At long last, we come to CollectA’s first effort to bring the ever-popular Maniraptora clade to their generously proportioned Deluxe line. It’s hard to go wrong with Velociraptor; the name is known throughout the world, and the basic body plan remains recognizable despite the efforts of a certain motion picture.

Review: Velociraptor (other one) (Jurassic Park by Kenner)

Since I reviewed both Jurassic Park Dilophosaurus figures (the electronic one here and the other one here) it seems only right that I take a gander at the standard JP Velociraptor now that I’ve got my sweaty mits on one.

Review: Velociraptor (Papo)

Up for review is yet another Papo dinosaur – Velociraptor. This figure is largely praised in the dinosaur toy collecting community, as is the real Velociraptor itself!

Unfortunately, most aspects of this Velociraptor are wrong. The tail is too short and curved, the arms are awkwardly pronated, the tibias seem a little too long, and there’s no feathers – all very un-dromeosaurid like features.

Review: Deinonychus (Soft model by Favorite Co. Ltd.)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

3.9 (8 votes)
In spite of not having a name ending in ‘raptor’, Deinonychus remains a high-profile dromaeosaur in the public imagination, and rightly so for an animal that revolutionised our understanding of dinosaurs. This fairly small and affordable toy is manufactured by Favorite, and is clearly modelled on their larger (and somewhat more expensive) resin ‘Desktop’ model.

In Japan, many figure companies are quite exciting due to their sculpting and selection of lines. For a good example take Bandai’s Godzilla Complete Works, Konami’s Gamera, Kaiyodo’s Dinotales to mention a few and if you know these lines and their respected makers then you know the orient also holds fantastic figures and not just the USA.

Review: Feathered Dinos Tube (Safari Ltd)

4 (21 votes)
Safari Ltd have produced several tubes (or ‘toobs’ as they call them) that contain a diverse selection of mini-dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. These tubes are a great choice for the indecisive amongst us. Why pick one single large dinosaur when you can get an entire tube of small dinosaurs for the same price.

Review: Jurassic Park “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” T-Rex vs. Velociraptors Diorama (by Sideshow Collectibles)

Review and photos by Dan Liebman of Dans Dinosaurs.
It is hard to believe that Crichton’s bestselling novel first appeared two decades ago. Since that time, the franchise has reintroduced audiences to dinosaurs like never before. Gone were the bulky, sluggish monsters of yesteryear, and in their place were lighting-fast predators with frightening levels of intellect.

Review: Deinonychus (AAA)

Once there was a time when Theropods simply were divided into ‘Carnosaurs’ (the big ones such as Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus) and ‘Coelurosaurs’ (the smaller ones such as Coelophysis or Compsognathus). Then along came Deinonychus, an irritating new predator who did not really fit into this concept.

Review: Utahraptor (Kenner, Jurassic Park series 2)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

3.5 (21 votes)
If you you are looking for an up-to-date, scientifically accurate dinosaur, this guy isn’t for you. However, if you like cool, vicious-looking, fun to play with dinosaurs, this figure is perfect. If you want to look at the Kenner Utahraptor with a scientist’s eye, there are very many problems; The short and bendy tail, the wrong positioning of the hands, the huge feet, the lack of feathers, and the over-sized claws.

Review: Velociraptor (Wild Safari Collection by Safari Ltd)

It looks as though Papo finally has some competition. This Velociraptor by Wild Safari is great, and it can be found pretty cheap too. I bought mine for $7.99. It has to be the best Safari velociraptor ever (All of the other safari velociraptors are ugly in my opinion!).

Review: Utahraptor (Walking With Dinosaurs by Toyway)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

4.4 (21 votes)
The spectacular Utahraptor by Toyway, based on the BBC Walking with Dinosaurs series, is a sleek, slender, rather mean-looking figure. The anatomy is accurate (except for the lack of feathers, but we’ll get to that in a moment), so this is one of the first ‘raptor’ figures to break away from the trendy but erroneous vision put forward by Jurassic Park.
