Australia has a wide array of species throughout the different periods and epochs. This has resulted in many different genus’ being constructed from the many pieces that had been found. Some have been erected from only a few pieces. Here, we see one such example, Rapator, a Mid-Cretaceous theropod known from a single metacarpal.

Primeval was a show on ITV a few years back that was known for having atrociously shrink-wrapped dinosaurs and that weirdly tusked Kaprosuchus. While it did have some truly horrific dinosaurs, the best of the show’s creatures were the original ones, such as the terrifying super-evolved bat, the future predator, and this guy.

Over the last few years, toy companies have become more and more willing to be adventurous with their choice of species to be immortalized in plastic. CollectA is a great example of this, with one of the widest varieties of dinosaur and other prehistoric animal figures around.

Since obtaining the Jurassic World license, Mattel has been pumping out a lot of figures in their toyline for the series, bringing a fresh wind into the dinosaur toy market especially over here in Germany where shelves usually are dominated by Schleich models.

Even though CollectA has always released models of almost unknown dinosaurs or recently discovered ones, when Saltriovenator was revealed as a new release for 2020, the surprise for Italian paleo-nerds was huge. Not long after the description of the theropod by Dal Sasso, Maganuco, and Cau, the third Italian dinosaur species would have had its first toy replica!

Primal Rage was one of the more unique fighting games to hit arcades back in 1994. Instead of martial arts warriors, its cast consisted of godlike prehistoric beasts waging a savage battle for control of the planet. By far my favourite character, the one which I mastered the game with, was Sauron, the God of Hunger.

History: Saurophaganax is not a well known theropod dinosaur from the late Jurassic, even though it was originally found in the early 1930’s. Considering how large this dinosaur was, which has been estimated to be around 43 feet long, you would think it would get a little more press.

Since their first Kickstarter campaign back in 2016, things appear to be going very well indeed for Creative Beast Studio and their Beasts of the Mesozoic line. Their Raptor Series, which boasts a wide range of animals from Dromaeosaurus to Mononykus, has been well received by dinosaur fans the world over.
