Review: Discover Dinosaurs: Dino Cretaceous Vol. 1 by Colorata

3.4 (14 votes)
Colorata’s first dinosaur set doesn’t hold up perfectly to modern science, but overall these are nicely made figures good for both play and display.
There seem to be regrettably few quality dinosaur playsets on the market these days, be it for adult collectors or kids.

Spinosaurus is, without doubt, one of the most blood-curdling, spine-chilling, formidable creatures humanity has ever come across. A seven tonne crocodile-like monster measuring in at 18 meters from nose to tail.

A lot of new figures have come out in 2017 [vote for your favourites here – Ed], but perhaps none have become more controversial than the Acrocanthosaurus that Schleich have created for their ‘Conquering the Earth’ dinosaurs collection.

This past year has seen a surprisingly large number of amazing figures produced by Safari Ltd. Of all the new prehistoric figures released for 2017, only a few have yet to be reviewed so far, including the Deinocheirus that will be the subject of this review.

“Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t goin’ away.” – Elvis Presley.
Cryolophosaurus was an early Jurassic theropod that hailed from the Hanson Formation around 194-188 mya in what is now Antarctica.

With the roaring success of Papo’s adult Spinosaurus figure it was only a matter of time before we got a tiny counterpart. Especially seeing how Papo have released younger versions of their Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Pachycephalosaurus, Mammoth and Apatosaurus models, it felt right to see Papo’s take on a young ‘Spine Lizard’.

With its spike in popularity over the years, and with much help from well known franchises such as Jurassic Park, the Ceratosaurus is starting to appeal more to mainstream audiences, especially as more and more toy companies begin to release their takes on this fascinating animal.

Tyrannosaurus rex is undoubtedly the most famous dinosaur of all. There’s nothing quite like the T. rex. In fact, it is the only dinosaur known commonly by both its genus and species name.

Allosaurus, meaning “different lizard”, is my personal favorite theropod. Is a large predatory dinosaur from the late Jurassic Period of North America and Portugal, with related forms found nearly worldwide. Although most estimates place Allosaurus at roughly 30 feet long, there are fragmentary examples that suggest lengths of up to 40 feet, although these could represent larger allosaurids such as Saurophaganax or Epanterias.

Review: Allosaurus (Age of the Dinosaurs, by PNSO)

As you may know, Allosaurus was a common predator 150 million years ago.  It hunted everywhere on the flood plains of the Morrison formation from the conifer forest, to the fern plains in between.  This charming little fellow is Black the little Allosaurus from PNSO.

Review: Pelecanimimus (De Agostini)

Back in the 1990s there was a publication called “Dinosaurs!”. Publisher De Agostini would introduce to us the dinosaurs and their world in many issues. One special dinosaur would get a titlee story, there were stories about other dinosaurs and prehistoric beasts, a 3D – poster in the middle of each issue and on the last side my former idol Dr.
