Following their excellent Therizinosaurus, Deinocheirus and Triceratops carcass, 2012 was really starting to look like CollectA’s year – a number of superb models and a distinct lack of genuine stinkers. Sadly, this model looks set to break that good run, and even more unfortunate is that it’s yet another dodgy T.

Perhaps the most highly anticipated (especially by me) Collecta release of 2012 is finally here, and it doesn’t disappoint. Highly speculative as it is, this might just be Collecta’s best dinosaur model to date.

It’s big, too – bigger than you might expect, at almost 30cm (1ft) long and 11cm tall at the hips.

When it comes to classic plant-eating dinosaurs, there is probably no match in popularity for the mighty Triceratops. The silhouette and skull are truly iconic, and no matter how far our interest in paleontology may wander, the eye is always drawn back to this beloved animal.

To celebrate Bullyland’s highly anticipated re-release of their prehistoric mammal collection I felt it was a good time to review the only Bullyland mammal figure I actually own, the Chalicotherium. For those of you out of the loop on this a brief overview is in order. Bullyland is a German toy company notable for producing its figures right in Germany.

The new Carnegie Brachiosaurus makes for quite a contrast with the original, and there’s a very good reason for that – it’s quite literally a different animal entirely!

The original model actually represented the animal now known as Giraffatitan brancai, which was rather different in its proportions to the ‘original’ Brachiosaurus – the type species, Brachiosaurus altithorax from North America.

Here we have a new figure for 2012 from the company that so many love to hate, German manufacturer Schleich. This new Tyrannosaurus rex is part of Schleich’s new “World of History” line, which contains some familiar looking dinosaur sculpts, but also some brand new ones.

Every collector wants a unique piece that stands out from the rest. A Rembrandt. A Van Gogh. I would argue that all of Shane Foulkes’ work deserves a special place in every dinosaur hobbyist’s shelf, but Shane has truly delivered a masterpiece with his 1/20th scale Torvosaurus.

Over two decades after paleontologist John Ostrom described Deinonychus and subsequently launched the “Dinosaur Renaissance” yet a new genus would be found that would change the public perception of dinosaurs and finally bring forth the last piece of evidence needed to connect dinosaurs to birds. Sinosauropteryx prima was the first non-avian dinosaur to be found with a covering of feathers on its body.

Continuing with our reviews of the Oldies model series, here we have the 1950s tail-dragging Brachiosaurus sculpted by Kazunari Araki (as is the entire Oldies line). The most well-known species of Brachiosaurus now goes by the name of Giraffatitan brancai (formerly Brachiosaurus brancai).
