Let me start out by saying that this pack of figures are obviously part of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World toy franchise, and likewise, each figure is designed to be a representation of its silver screen counterpart. We all know that many of the prehistoric species featured in this franchise are not scientifically accurate.

While the award goes to the Carnotaurus for my favorite new theropod in the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom line (if not counting the new hybrid Indoraptor), the award for my new favorite herbivore has to go to the Stygimoloch.

I first learned about Stygimoloch back in the late 1980s when I came across a painting of it by the late paleoartist Ely Kish in a dinosaur book, and I distinctly recall being rather excited at the prospect of another North American pachycephalosaur besides Pachycephalosaurus itself and Stegoceras.

It was inevitable. Funko has now found its way onto the Dinosaur Toy Blog. Since this is the first Funko review on the DTB I suppose a brief introduction of the company is in order, not that it’s needed. Funko has managed to spread its tendrils into virtually every pop culture fandom imaginable and even if you don’t collect them, I know that at least a few readers here have a couple Funko figures around their home.

“Yeah, funny thing about that, Doc.

A staple of any paleo-nut’s childhood – and source of dread for said paleo-nut’s parents! – were so-called excavation kits, which usually took the form of plaster blocks with parts of a skeleton model jumbled inside. Equipped with a toy hammer, the task was to ‘excavate’ the pieces, then to assemble them once they were all found.
