Recently there’s been a string of ceratopsian (along with one abelisaurid) reviews here at the Dinosaur Toy Blog. However, any kid knows that the arch-nemesis of the ceratopsian is the tyrannosaur. There is no tyrannosaur more famous than the namesake of the family, Tyrannosaurus rex.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (Timpo)

For some reason I’m in a mood for firsts. So, here’s another company that hasn’t been featured on the Dinosaur Toy Blog before – Timpo Toys. And about time, too, this line really deserves some attention. Timpo was founded in England by German refugee Sally Gawrylovitz (also known as Ally Gee, aii) in 1938.

The PNSO produce everything from tiny miniature toys to giant life-sized museum sculptures, but this review is something in between – a sizeable 1:35 scale statue of Tyrannosaurus rex, dubbed ‘Wilson’. We previously unboxed him on our Youtube channel, now it’s time to take a closer look.

Tyrannosaurus rex is without a doubt one iconic animal, one of the handful of dinosaurs that most of the general public can identify on sight, and as far as prehistoric animal toys are concerned, there wouldn’t be too many making dinosaurs that didn’t have this guy in their lineup.

I’ll admit, I’m a picky collector. I lack the completionist drive to amass a proper collection, and only pick out pieces that really stand out to me as exceptional (and, for my wallet’s sake, affordable).

There was once a time when no proper museum gift shop didn’t feature the legendary and now-defunct Carnegie Collection. Let us take a closer look at one of its biggest stars.

Here we have the second version of the Carnegie Tyrannosaurus rex, released in 1996.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (Walking with Dinosaurs by Toyway)

3.9 (45 votes)

Toyway produced eleven figures (and an elusive twelfth) to accompany the BBC TV series ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’. I recall my eyes bulging out of their sockets when I first came across these gems in a toy shop in Bath. I was visiting the town with a group of fellow palaeontology students so the shop owners were understandably baffled when their entire stock of Utahraptors were wiped out in within five minutes by a bunch of excited, grinning young adults.

The National Geographic Society  is a nonprofit organization that promotes environmental and historical conservation, as well as the study of world culture and history. The society has many outlets to its name, including a magazine, and a cable network on television, so it is highly regarded among  the general public.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd. – 2011 sculpt)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

A number of dinosaurs in the Wild Safari line have been subject to resculpts, but the most famous dinosaur of all is unique in having been revised twice. The iffy original was replaced by an abysmal Jurassic Park-esque affair back in 2006; it was almost reminiscent of the Papo T.
