The shelled cephalopods known as ammonites first appeared in the Devonian and then flourished all the way to the very end of the Cretaceous. They came in a wide variety of shapes and they ranged in size from ones you could hold in your palm to ones with shells measuring more than two metres in diameter.

Looking back again at the toys of yesteryear we have another little Inpro figurine dug out of my attic, this time it’s a woolly mammoth. Inpro would produce only two mammals for their collection; this mammoth and the equally popular Smilodon.

Today’s figure was bought at a Mexican Fiesta back in 2014. It is from the same unknown line as this T. rex reviewed back in 2011, and it is a pretty sizable piece of plastic.

When most dinosaur-related series cover ceratopsians, Triceratops is the animal most often chosen to be featured. However, while Triceratops made a cameo appearance as a T. rex‘s courtship offering in the BBC series Walking with Dinosaurs, the main ceratopsian was the lesser known Torosaurus instead (whether it or not it turns out to be a mature Triceratops, we will see).

Linde is an Austrian company producing substitute coffee – at the beginning in the 50s, because real coffee was hard to get, later because some people really enjoyed this substitute from malt, barley, rye and chicory. Occasionaly the company would put collectable little plastic premiums into the packagings in order to promote their product.

Last time I did a review of a Geoworld product, I said that the company likes to put feathers only on species that are known to have feathers in the fossils. Well, unfortunately I should’ve done more research (and a little more glancing at my collection) because that was not the case.

According to the dinosaur books I read when I was a child, Tyrannosaurus rex was the ultimate bane of the Cretaceous. Every other dinosaur had best fled to save its poor hide once the king of tyrants strolled by.

Struthiomimus is the quintessential ornithomimid, the ostrich dinosaur many of us grew up reading about in dinosaur books. Its top speed is estimated to have been between 50 and 80 km/h, and it would have needed that speed to escape from hungry tyrannosaurs and dromaeosaurs.
