Review: Ankylosaurus (Sede) (Prehistoric Animal Models by PNSO)

The Chinese company PNSO only came onto the scene about three years ago but in that short amount of time, and despite a brief hiatus, they’ve delivered a vast array of jaw dropping collectables like nothing we’ve seen before. By and large the models produced thus far have fit into a few different size and price ranges but none of them really met in the middle.

This Ankylosaurus from Favorite is one of the best plastic ankylosaurs out there. It’s just not Ankylosaurus

A little background: in 2004, a paper by Ken Carpenter was published that redescribed Ankylosaurus and finally gave it a definitive modern ‘look’.

This magnificent version of Ankylosaurus magniventris has been very difficult to obtain in Europe since the import prices from Japan are quite steep. However, I managed to obtain this Late Cretaceous creature when a shop in Britain finally took Favorite’s Soft Model series in their selection.

The Walking with Dinosaurs collection by Toyway includes some of the most detailed and scientifically accurate dinosaur figures out there. The figures tie directly into the TV series ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ and represent some of the major dinosaurs seen in the show. They are therefore identical to the on screen portrayals.

Review: Ankylosaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

4.6 (34 votes)

With the 2017 Tyrannosaurus and 2018 Triceratops, Safari Ltd has made a good start on reconstructing a 1:35 version of the Hell Creek formation of the Maastrichtian (latest Cretaceous) of Laramidia. To help round out the Hell Creek fauna, they’ve just released a new, updated Ankylosaurus, another giant contemporary of Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops.

The 1994 Atari fighting game Primal Rage featured a roster of stop-motion animated dinosaurs and giant apes that battled it out on a post-apocalyptic Earth (or “Urth”), which seems like an irresistible concept for a toyline, with Playmates jumping to the task in 1996, possibly to coincide with the sequel of the game which never materialised (toys based on characters from the sequel were also produced).

Review and photos by Emperor Dinobot, edited by Suspsy

Hello everyone! Welcome to yet another EmperorDinobot(TM) dinosaur review! Today we are going to give a look at these quirky bendable dinosaurs from Dorda! Made in 1987 (I think I would have to lift up their skirts to make sure it was ’87 or ’88), these dinosaurs look a wee bit like the Playskool Definitely Dinosaur figures from the late 80s, but definitely have their own aesthetic and gimmick in order to keep kids and strange adult dinosaur toy collectors entertained for hours!

Before we sink our teeth into a toy that is based upon one of the most exciting fossil discoveries ever made, I have a few thanks to give out.  First I would like to thank CollectA for supplying this sample and its continuing support to the writers at the Dinosaur Toy Blog.  I also would like to thank Suspsy, who has made this review possible.

Back in 2017, one of the best preserved fossils discovered was making the rounds. It was named Borealopelta markmitchelli, “Mark Mitchell’s northern shield”, honoring the man who spent more than 7,000 hours carefully preparing the fossil material, and slowly carving it out from the rock it rested in.

There are quite a number of fossils that stun the layman aswell as the professionell for their quality of preservation. Finds enclosed in Burmese amber, Chinese or German limestone come to mind, revealing large numbers of numerous species in outstanding quality. In common they have, that most of the species preserved are comparably small….
