Back in 2012 a representative from the toy vendor VictoryBuy joined the Dinosaur Toy forum looking for member feedback with regards to reissuing the Tim Mee set of toy dinosaurs, originally produced in the 1970’s. Flashforward to 2014 and VictoryBuy once again stopped by the forum, this time to announce the actual release of the set.

It was a truly sad day for the entire dinosaur toy community when Battat Terra sculptor Dan LoRusso passed away in 2015. He was immensely talented, meticulous in his research, and most importantly of all, friendly and kind. At the time of his death, he had begun working on sculpts of Majungasaurus, Plateosaurus, and Yutyrannus for the Terra line.

Schleich had a strong release year in 2019 and the upcoming 2021 releases look quite promising. The 2020 releases, however, received a lot of criticism among collectors and thus didn’t get much attention. Today, I am taking a closer look at one of those releases, the Cryolophosaurus, and will examine it to find out where this flak came from.

Alongside trilobites, ammonites are far and away the most popular group of prehistoric invertebrates. These shelled cephalopods belong to the broader Ammonoidea, which evolved over 400 million years ago during the Devonian. Keep in mind that not all ammonoids are ammonites and actual ammonites from the Ammonitida clade lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous, a time during which they flourished.

CollectA has long been at the forefront of producing obscure toys of prehistoric animals but by and large they’ve all been tetrapods; four legged vertebrates and their descendants. This includes a variety of dinosaurs, pterosaurs, marine reptiles, and mammals. But this year CollectA has raised the bar and released four prehistoric invertebrate figures: a trilobite (Redlichia rex), Orthoceras, Pleuroceras ammonite, and a belemnite.

As a young child, I loved splashing around in the tub with my toys. Who didn’t? Most of my bath toys were sharks and whales and other aquatic creatures, but occasionally a plesiosaur would find its way into the mix. My older son, however, enjoys taking his bath with the Classic Big Four: Brontosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus rex.

For the last several months the Chinese company PNSO (Peking Natural Science-art Organization) has delivered upon us a glut of prehistoric animal figures that have shaken the fountain of our hobby and truly changed the game, or such is my opinion anyway. These figures are mostly in PNSO’s mid-range size of figures that retail for $20-30 and at this point I’ve frankly lost count of how many have actually been released.

Diplodocus is one of the most famous and iconic dinosaurs and has been around for some time now. Its graceful form is easily recognizable so it has become one of the staple species in pop culture, from merchandise and films.With that, information about it already saturate the forum as well as the blogosphere so we can skip all that.
This Diplodocus figure we are reviewing today is a repaint of CollectA’s first version that was released way back in 2013 if I remember correctly.This figure is in a rearing pose; a pose made iconic by the legendary Battat Diplodocus way back in the mid 1990’s and has yet to be surpassed despite a few attempts through the years from various brands.

As of this writing, there are currently three species of Allosaurus recognized: A. fragilis, A. jimmadseni, and A. europaeus. The former two American species are mostly represented in toy form, with almost every one of them being A.

This group of ten novelty, cartoonish dinosaurs were purchased on Ebay in 2018, and don’t seem to be available anymore. Very much in the style of The Land Before Time or Dinosaurs the television show from the 1990s, they are a variety of well known dinosaurs rendered in a caricature form.

Even though CollectA has always released models of almost unknown dinosaurs or recently discovered ones, when Saltriovenator was revealed as a new release for 2020, the surprise for Italian paleo-nerds was huge.
