Long time collectors may remember Schleich’s first Pteranodon, part of the Replica Saurus line back in 2001. It was an elegant creature, beautifully sculpted, and still pleasing to the modern collector’s eye. In 2018, almost two decades later, Schleich released a new version as part of the Conquering the Earth line.
In 1980 José Fernando Bonaparte discovered one of the first sauropods from Argentina, Saltasaurus. Unlike most other Argentinian dinosaurs, Saltasaurus was not discovered in the province of Chubut in the Patagonian centre of Argentina, but as its name suggests in the northwest province of Salta (travellers know the capital Salta as starting point for the colorful landscape of Jujuy).
Shonisaurus was an upper Triassic Ichtyosaur from Northern Ameria that probably fit the ecological niche of today´s sperm whales. The fact that adult animals did not have teeth can as well lead to the conclusion that it could have been a plankton filtering animal. Shonisaurus sikanniensis with a length of some 23m is the largest marine reptile that has been described by now.

It seems as though Schleich has seen the latest attempts by companies such as Papo and Safari Ltd and are now trying to get away from retro-style dinosaurs and on to new, more modern versions.
