Review: Prehistoric Diorama (Usborne)

Paper is usually not the material of choice for collectors of any sort. I anyway want to introduce you to something that may be of interest for a dinosaur collector, though it are probably not the figures….

The introduced cut out model was first released in 1993 under the title “Make these Dinosaurs” and the art of it, especially the dinosaur desgin, certainly represents this time.

Review: Prehistoric Tube A (CollectA)

4.3 (14 votes)
Following in the footsteps of Safari Ltd and Papo, CollectA burst into the world of miniatures in late 2015. Today we’ll be looking at Prehistoric Tube A, which contains no less than ten figures of some of the most popular dinosaurs and other extinct animals. The tube itself measures 27 cm long, is made of transparent hard plastic, opens like a chest, and fastens shut securely with a clasp.

Time again to downsize with CollectA’s second tube collection. Like the previous set I reviewed, this one came out in late 2015 and contains no fewer than ten teeny toy dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters, a couple of them making their debut with CollectA.

First up is a bantam Amargasaurus, based on the Deluxe version.

Review: Prehistoric Tube C (CollectA)

Since they first started producing tube sets back in 2015, CollectA has covered a pretty decent variety of prehistoric life, wild animals, sea creatures, and farm stock. In 2021, they went back to the beginning with a third dinosaur (mostly) set consisting of ten figures, all based on previously released toys.

Review: Pteranodon (2019)(Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

Despite surprising levels of controversy surrounding it upon release, this is an excellent model that reflects scientific understanding to the best detail currently possible.

Pteranodon is the default popular image of the pterosaurs (often misidentified broadly as “pterodactyls” – although Pteranodon IS nestled deep in suborder Pterodactyloidea).

The fish is small, but still big enough to be worth the effort for Camber, who begins swooping down toward the ocean surface. As he nears his target, his bill opens ever so slightly, ready for a precision strike. But then he is abruptly thrown off course by a larger male streaking past him.

The Walmart exclusive (in the United States) Battle Damage series has produced a number of my favorite figures from Mattel’s Jurassic World line. The Battle Damage Pteranodon, which is the subject of this review, is one such figure.

Review: Pteranodon (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd)

Now here’s a figure that’s had a beating with the ugly stick. The Pteranodon was one of 17 models in the original Carnegie collection lineup, way back in 1989. It was retired in 1995 but reissued the following year and is still produced today. It’s one of the smaller toys in the line with a wingspan of 11cm (about 4 inches)

I think the Carnegie Pteranodon is supposed to be in a flying pose, either that or sprawled out on its tummy in the most ungainly manner.

Pteranodon is not only the most famous pterosaur, but also the best known. More than 1,000 fossil specimens have been uncovered, including both male and female individuals. Males were larger and possessed the familiar blade-shaped crests while females were smaller, had short, rounded crests, and wider hips for laying eggs.

Review: Pteranodon (Conquering the Earth by Schleich)

Long time collectors may remember Schleich’s first Pteranodon, part of the Replica Saurus line back in 2001. It was an elegant creature, beautifully sculpted, and still pleasing to the modern collector’s eye. In 2018, almost two decades later, Schleich released a new version as part of the Conquering the Earth line.
