Regardless about how you ultimately felt about the movie one of the most exciting prospects behind the release of Jurassic World was the toys and other merchandise that would inevitably be released alongside the film. The old Kenner Jurassic Park toys are some of the best movie action figures ever produced and although Hasbro dropped the ball on Jurassic Park 3 there were still those that hoped they might do better for Jurassic World.

Carcharodontosaurid-heads have had a lot to celebrate since PNSO hit the scene. The company has produced 6 members of the clade and most of them within the last couple of years. This has allowed fans of these mega theropods to amass a high-end collection of all the clade’s major players, and unlike other dinosaur groups, PNSO has given each an attractive and visually distinct paintjob.

Depending on how you look at it, repaints are either a blessing or a curse. On the one hand, it can be annoying to plunk down hard-earned money on a sculpt you already own. On the other hand, there’s a lot to be said for a radical new colour scheme that spruces up a familiar toy.

Good dromaeosaurid replicas are hard to come by. I completely abhor feathered renditions, so I was pretty excited when I finally got the Battat Utahraptor, a huge relative of the Deinonychus. Its skin is still pretty reptilic.

As one of the largest of the dromaeosaurids, Utahraptor ostrommaysorum perhaps first garnered significant public attention after starring in the 1999 animated documentary, Walking with Dinosaurs. Since this time, the scientifically accepted appearance of this 7m theropod has changed considerably, as more evidence has been unearthed supporting the idea that this creature was fully feathered – much like its far smaller kin.

Utahraptor is one of those dinosaurs that I see as being overrated because the media seems to love it due to the fact that it was a larger dromaeosaur then the Velociraptors from Jurassic Park.

Last time I did a review of a Geoworld product, I said that the company likes to put feathers only on species that are known to have feathers in the fossils. Well, unfortunately I should’ve done more research (and a little more glancing at my collection) because that was not the case.
