Review: Carnotaurus (2011 Version)(Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd.)

The year was 1985. When the world was first introduced to Carnotaurus sastrei, the stock market went wild, the streets were flooded with panicked mobs, and the skies became saturated with an eerie purple tinge.

Alright, maybe that isn’t entirely true. The first big break for our brow-horned friend probably came in Crichton’s bestselling sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World, where Carnotaurus prowled the darkness with chameleonic camouflage (speculative, naturally).

Review: Spinosaurus Hunting (Desktop Model by Dinostoreus)

4.8 (4 votes)
In addition to their primary line of single-character maquettes, Dinostoreus produces a number of diorama-style pieces which portray prehistoric animals in their natural environment. One that undoubtedly draws attention is this model, featuring the beloved Spinosaurus snatching a snack from churning Cretaceous waters.

Review by Nathan Morris (Takama), photos by Bokisaurus and Simon. Edited by Plesiosauria.
Concavenator corcovatus (meaning hunchback hunter from Cuenca). Was a 6-meter long, and primitive carcharodontosaurian that lived 130 milion years ago during the early Cretaceous Period. It was discovered last year [2010] at the Las Hoyas Plateau, and is notable for a hump that pertruded from its back.

Review: Acrocanthosaurus (Antediluvia Collection)(David Krentz)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

3.8 (15 votes)
As more species slip into mainstream consciousness, the ever-popular theropoda sees its previously obscure members slowly becoming household names. Nowhere is this more evident than Acrocanthosaurus atokensis, which has quickly soared to the popularity levels of Dilophosaurus and Spinosaurus. Alright, maybe ol’ Acro isn’t quite that popular – those two examples did have the dubious backing of Hollywood, after all.

Review: Tyrannosaurus rex (Dinosaur King by Sega)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

4.6 (18 votes)
As per the introductory convention, I should probably mention how T. rex is a popular dinosaur rarely done well, and the animal’s pop culture significance, and all that stuff. Sod it, though –  just look at this beauty. That’s some serious tyrannosaur sexiness.

Review: Irritator (CollectA)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

3.3 (13 votes)
Nope, that’s not a spelling error or practical joke. There really is a dinosaur named “Irritator”. The Irritator was named as such because, as it passed through the unscrupulous hands of commercial fossil markets, many modifications were made to the original fossil in order to make it appear more desirable.

Review: Male Velociraptor (Jurassic Park III by Kaiyodo)

3.6 (8 votes)
The Jurassic Park movies are what led Velociraptor to its great fame and popularity in popular culture. This dinosaur has been represented many times in Jurassic Park memorabilia, collectibles, and toys. It is fitting that when Kaiyodo produced a set of 13 figures based on the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park 3, figures of both the male and female Velociraptors in the movie were produced.

Review: Kelenken (Deluxe model by CollectA)

Genus: Brand: , Classification: , Age: Type:

4.6 (22 votes)
This year’s new Collecta figures represent a huge leap forward from their rather ugly forebears, and one of the most handsome in the lineup is this sizeable model of the phorusrhacid ‘terror bird’ Kelenken guillermoi, released as part of the ‘Deluxe’ range.

Review: Ceratosaurus (Replica-Saurus by Schleich)

Genus: Brand: Classification: , Age: Type:

3.8 (46 votes)
The famous Jurassic predator Allosaurus coexisted with its smaller, though likely equally fearsome relative Ceratosaurus during the Late Jurassic. Fossils of Ceratosaurus (“horned lizard”) have been recovered from numerous localities in North America, Africa, and Southern Europe.

Review: Kitadaniryu (Kaiyodo Animatales Series 6)

Genus: Brand: Classification: Age: Type:

4.2 (6 votes)
After the release of a certain film having to do with dinosaurs in 1993, dromaeosaurs have captured the public imagination. While some are famous, such as the notorious Velociraptor and Utahraptor, there are many more obscure species as well. Kitadaniryu is a very mysterious dinosaur, as there is very little information about it available.
